Review: After reading many reviews on the more mainstream paintball accessory manufacturers, it became apparent that there wasn't anything really "great" out there. Generally, if it was functional, it was cheap and fell apart. If it was well made, it had some major flaw that made it not work for people. So my hunt continued until I stumbled upon the RAP4 product, which was introduced just recently. I bought this for woodsball and scenario play. I am 5'10", with a medium build, just for reference.

First impression

Right out of the box it was apparent that this was a well made product. I went over the harness carefully and found the stitching and material top notch. It has a mesh component which really adds to the overall comfort. The fit was excellent before I even put on the suspenders. The suspender are included, and are an "H", so they can't fall off your shoulders. Good Velcro on the pod holding straps. Tank holding system seemed like it would hold any size tank securely. Large buckle.

Pro's after first play...

After I put this thing on, I could hardly tell it was there, except for the extra weight. (of course I had adjusted everything ahead of time...) Comfortable, and didn't slip down once, due to suspenders. They didn't dig into my shoulders. I was wearing three layers because it was cold, so will have to see how they work out in the summer months. Pod pouches stayed open so it was easy to put the pods back when they were empty. Pod pouch straps stayed closed during play. Tank holding design was indeed excellent. Two hold down straps and two bottle holding straps kept all three of my CO2 bottles in place and their movement to a minimum. I only have a 16oz, but I know a 20oz will fit. Can't speak to any of the larger compressed air tanks available. Tank didn't dig into my back once. Other nice things; hook on the front to hang your gun, if it has a hook. (mine does not) Also has a pouch on the front that you can put something in, although it seems it was designed for the extra belt length to be coiled up and stored there which is what I did. Belt is wide, with a big clasp. It did not come undone, nor did it dig.

Con's after purchase and first use

First off, 30 bucks is a STEAL for this harness. Its worth 40+. However, $15 shipping is a little steep. I combined it with a TAPCO stock to get more shipping bang for my buck. Rap4 should get these out to their retail vendors. I couldn't find anyone in the local Baltimore area that carried them.

OK, now the usability negatives, which to be honest are very minor. Although the fit was good, I did have to re-tighten the belt once or twice. I didn't get any slips due to the suspenders. Heck I fiddle with pants belt once a day at work, so not a big deal. I think its due to the material, its nylon or poly, so its a bit slippery. Second issue, small pods extend the pod holding straps so far, there is only a little bit of Velcro to hold them. Adding even another inch would have made a huge difference. Again, nothing came loose, but the Velcro is still new. Whats going to happen when some dirt gets in there and not all the loops engage? Only time will tell, I guess.

Conclusion: An excellent product. Well made, well thought out. Obviously designed by someone who knows paintball. Check to see if you can get it locally without having to ship it from RAP4. Even if you pay a little more then 30, its worth it. A great harness for woodsball players. I am giving it a 9 out of 10.
9 out of 10
