Period of
Product Use:
Less than a month
4 years
Products Used:
Most Tippmanns, ION, SP-1, SP-8, a few others.
Marker Setup: My primary is a SITH ION tactical with a 98 Pro-E as a backup. Considering moving to a Proto marker soon.
Strengths: Impressive machining and the M-16 style cocking leaver is cool. Solid design.
Weaknesses: The tear down and assembly, funky ball latch, no trigger adjustment, and brick
Review: I picked up a heavily used BT16 off of eBay and just finished a little restore job tonight. I have extensive experience with Tippmann and Smart Parts rebuilds. In my opinion the biggest flaw is the difficulty of getting it apart and back in working order. It is too difficult for most beginners to maintain and not good enough of a marker for an experienced player. This might work well as a backup or rental marker. I also found that the ball detent or ball latch (a spring loaded ball) can get gummed up pretty easily and seems difficult to maintain though easy to replace. I have some rough edges inside my feed port that may cause breaks but it may just be a one off thing. I love the machine work but the marker is too heavy for my taste...if I want a brick I'll carry an A5 or X7.
Conclusion: Fun marker if you can get it at a reasonable price but expect a Tippmann 98C level of performance at best with more difficult tear down and fewer upgrades. Only recommended as a loaner, backup or rental and not for beginners or people who aren't comfortable rebuilding their own markers. I give it an 8 out of ten for an excellent effort.
8 out of 10
