Products Used:
Tippmann A-5, Spyder TL-R, Tippmann 98 C basic
Marker Setup: Cyclone feed system, 16" J&J Barrel, red dot sight
Strengths: Solid gun, A-5 level, Easy to customize, vastly improved over basic model
Weaknesses: Sometimes loads two balls, trigger runs on battery
Review: This has been a very reliable gun. The E-trigger is working well and makes for a very light trigger pull. The gun can definitely out run the stock hopper so i do recommend an upgraded hopper system of some kind. I bought the 16" J&J barrel but the 11" pro barrel is almost as accurate and I have had much fewer ball breaks with the stock barrel (probably due to bore sizes) so i have switched back to that for now. The insides are much more refined than the normal basic. The small pins and hopper release piece is all fixed in place now making tear down and reassembly of gun much easier. I have had trouble when I use the full auto feature with ball breaks. In semi-auto mode the gun has been awesome. One downside is that it takes a little time and effort to switch modes on the e-trigger. This is a very good gun that i would say is A-5 level of quality and refinement but it is no X7 Phenom.

I have changed my set up since I wrote the review the first time. I switched to an HPA system, use a Dye boomstick and switched to Diablo Formula 13 paintballs and it is a night and day difference! I have shot tens of thousands of paintballs through it with this configuration and full auto works great and I haven't broke a paintball since. I covered up the e-trigger symbol on the grip and it is fun to play with people and hear their response when a 98 opens up full auto on them with killer accuracy. I still stand by my review score of 9/10 because it did require these upgrades but they made a world of difference.
Conclusion: The Platinum upgrade is well worth it and the pro package is nice to have. I am not totally sold on the e-trigger setup but it has been reliable for me. Notably better than the regular 98 custom. Would be a 10 if it didn't NEED upgrades to reach it's full potential.
