Played in NB. This is the first one I've played in NS.
Ballistic Paintball is the perfect example of "big things come in small packages".
Picture this: You're done fighting a nasty cold and you feel like spending a nice relaxing day of paintballing outside. It calls for a beautiful Sunday but your local forest field has closed for the season two weeks ago. You check PBReview.com and find out there's a small field in Tatamagouche (this is when you ask yourself, is this worth my time?) and you decide to take a chance.
When we got there, it didn't look like much. Talking to the owner, we find out this was a temporary field while a larger/better one was being built. A few other guys arrive and we're all set for some 4 vs 4 games with two refs. Up to now, it looks like it was worth getting out of bed for on a Sunday morning.
After the usual rules and safety shpeel, we head off to the field. For a temporary field, there sure was a lot of work put in it. There was a wide variety of cover, ranging from trees, stumps and branches to large metal drums and tires, not to mention planks, pallets and the occasional tarp covered mini-bunker. The teams were evenly matched and most games we played reached the agreed upon 10-minute cap. It was a blast to play and is a perfect field for small to mid-sized groups (6 - 14 people). We played team elimination and "president" (where you protect your unarmed ref and try to get him to the opposing team's bunker). The layout of the field was perfect for fast movement and good cover, without making anyone "invincible".
All in all, this was one of the best paintball days I've ever spent. It was well worth the two hour trip from NB and I would go back anytime. I can't wait for their new field to open up in the Spring.
Some closing notes worth considering:
- Great attention to safety rules, without making you feel like you're in jail.
- Bring Your Own Paint - While they provide paint, this is a great option to have. BYOP is taboo at most fields.
- Come as you are - You feel welcome right away, which will not only attract people, but keep them in the sport.
- Expansion - The new field is already in the works.
I give this particular field an 8, which is great for a temp field. With the new field, these guys should have no problem getting ratings of 9 !
