Review: First off, i just want to say that overall, i was extremely pleased with my experience at Jack Pine Paintball. I went there with 6 friends and we all played together on both of the fields, and though i wish more people had been there the day we were, it was still a good time. The owner, Paul, was extremely helpful and accomodating, really all a person could ask for. The fields were well maintained and all the bunkers were set up and aired up fully so there was no 'wait to play' time that i have experienced elsewhere. The netting around the fields was high and looked like it was put up the day before, it was in such good shape. A note about these fields themselves, bunker wise: they are among the best you will find anywhere; this is no haphazard collection of pmi bunkers bought 2 or 3 at a time, this is 2 full regulation size NPPL fields. The larger is best served as a 5 man field, though it would work almost as well playing 7 man, and we had a good time playing around at 3 man just for fun. The smaller field is designed and best used for 3 people on a side. It is where we spent most of our day, and the action there was frantic, fast paced, and very fun. It was very nice to play at a field where the management takes such obvious care of their equipment. Also, the owner mentioned that there are woods fields for those who like that style behind the main fields, but that's not what i'm interested in so much. Air fills ran just to 3000 psi while we were there but Paul said that normally he can fill to 4500 psi, and by Monday, his new compresser would be there and it would be set up shortly after. Paint prices were ridiculously cheap, especially for us who are used to paying anywhere from 60-80 bucks a case. I payed $46 for a case of xball bronze that shot so beautifully out of my marker i wanted to buy a dozen more. The selection was fantastic too, including Blaze with the xball for premium paint; Inferno for 55 for tournaments, and 3 field grades that were around the 40 dollar mark if i remember correctly, so whatever you're into, they've got it.

The only things i can say critically about this field are very small and almost insignificant to me, but in the interest of being honest to others who want to know about this place, i'll mention them. First, while paint was very cheap, it cost me $18 just to get on the field and play between air and field fee. 8 bucks is reasonable for the field fee, and while i understand that air systems are expensive, $10 seemed a tad high for all day air when i'm already paying the first cost. There was an option for buying air as you go, and i might well do that the next time if i plan on not shooting too much. The fact that there was noone else there to play bothered me a bit, tho Paul mentioned one of his field teams was at a tournament elsewhere, and it was the fishing opener, but for such a beautiful day, i would have expected at least a few others. Obviously, not the fields fault, but a gripe nonethelesss. Also, the field was a bit out of the way North of Grantsburg...we found it very easily by reading the webiste, but if someone neglected to do that it would be difficult to place. Maybe it wouldn't be a bad idea to put up a series of signs in town if possible, i don't know. Also, and this last may be no issue at all, it was just a feeling i got, but the fields had a sense of almost...permanence to them, like that was the set up they were designed for and that's how they will stay. Now this is the ONLY time i have played there, so, honestly, i can't say that they don't change the layouts, it was just a feeling. I'll update this when i go back to play again.

All in all, this is a field that i would heartily recommend to ANYONE looking for a quality tournament paintball experience, or really anyone looking to have a good time with their friends at a friendly, well operated field. It has a few downsides, as any place will, but honestly, the upsides FAR outweigh them. I had a blast playing, and i can't get over just how well my friends and i were treated. I would suggest a person interested in this field go to the website for directions, and call in advance to let them know you are coming, and if you are a small group, see if there is anyone else there. I look forward to returning to this field often, despite the fact that it is 90 minutes from my home, and i would venture a guess that anyone else that played there would feel the same. Go and check it out, and keep your head down b/c you'll be seeing me there often and i'll shoot ya in the face if ya give me half a chance. :D
