Review:
I played their Alamo game this past sun. I usually love playing Top Gun for their fields and the different people that show up. I was expecting at least the same decent quality of reffs that I've come to get accustomed to when playing walk-on games. I was very disappointed to see so many new and rookie refs watching over the games. These reffs just didn't know what they were doing. They should not have been allowed to oversee the game. I was glad to see the reffs that usually work the weekends play along side but the officiating reffs had no business wearing those yellow shirts.
The over all set up was also somewhat of a downer. This maybe because of the rookie reffs or by mgmt. There was a 10 min reinsertion rule that didn't seem to be followed by anyone. This lead to the domination of the "mexican" army over the texans. The use of a tank as an equalizer was a nice touch but more work in planning and execution would have been better. Also if their version of the Alamo had been somewhat larger and had multiple stories it would have added more defense for the texans and a greater challenge for the mexicans. My last grievance is for the defending army of the Alamo, shooting above and over the netting at nearby players was appalling. Thank goodness the players that were hit were of and even temper and not newbies just trying out the sport. This wasn't the worst event I've seen but this was not a big step forward for Top Gun.
Dispute: I played in the Alamo Game and I thought it was amazing!!!! What you have to remember is that this was the first year that they had this since they just built it . There are new owners who are doing these big events for the first time in how many years. Where you say that you are disappointed with them using new refs in the game what were they supposed to use for a game that had this many people. All of the usual refs were there reffing. I know that i followed the reinsertion time but maybe that is because I am an honest player. I also don't know how much bigger you would want this thing it is about an acre big...you have to remember that we are in New Jersey where there are very strict building codes that you have to follow....so for these guys to build a second story they would have to invest in all the procedures that is expected of any house and that is alot of time and money...places like Emr and Skirmish with their castles can get away with it because PA is very liberal when it comes to safety codes...My last dispute is the comment about the Mexicans over powering the Texans....that is what happened in history
I think it was a great 1st for TopGun and you have to give credit, it takes alot of work to pull something like this off with the building to the planning of the event...everyone has to remember that they were also running the business during this time while doing everything
If all the players followed the rules and there were more people there it would have been a lot better, but to say that it was a terrible event is just wrong and it doesn't help the sport
