Review: First time I attended this field it was for their beginners tourney. The tourny was well organized from the actual playing point of view. The administrative/behind the scenes stuff needed some work, such as not carrying enough paint, not having trophies on hand for the presentation, and the big one saying that the entry fee was a typo and raised it an additional $10. Doing that actually cause a team to withdraw because they couldn't afford enough paint.

The officiating was very professional and very few calls were disputed.

Overall the tourney was very enjoyable.

First of all I'd like to thank you for posting a review of our tourney here on pbreview. You may or may not know that tournament was our very first one at the GQ field. For many of us, it was the very first tourney we had ever run. So it was a beginner's tourney in more ways than one.

I'm pleased to see that you had praise for how the tourney was organized, run, and officiated. General Quarters Paintball is maintained and officiated entirely by volunteers. We do not handle the business side of things. The MWR Paintball Advisory Committee, made up by the same volunteers, worked very hard getting everything prepared and running as smoothly as it did. If you cannot tell, I am one of the Committee members and I know what happened that day. So you know that term "hearing it from the horse's mouth?"

Now I'd like to address some of the negative things you mentioned. I'd like you to understand that I'm not trying to bash you for your comments and observations. That's why I thanked you to begin with, because without your objectivity we wouldn't be able to improve ourselves for the next tourney.

Not carrying enough paint...
I'm afraid you may have been either misled or under the wrong impression. We had plenty of paint for not only the tournament, but also enough for the all of the players that arrived for open play in both the woods and the speed ball field.

Not having the trophies on hand...
I'm sorry to say that this is absolutely true. None of the volunteers were responsible for this mistake. Personally, I was extremely disappointed and I think it's safe for me to say that all the officials and the winners at the tourney were disappointed as well. I saw the trophy design before they were ordered...I thought they were pretty cool. Have no doubt that we will NOT make the same mistake again.

Entry fee mix up...
Again...another disappointment. First of all, there was never a typo. The flyers were correct. One of the cashiers was basically confused. Saying the fee was a typo was a cop out for not knowing what was going on. There was no fee for late registration either.

As for a team withdrawing because of the wrong fees...there was one team that I know of that could not participate. They were three kids who wanted to play Young Guns (ages 10-15) that discovered we were taking walk-on teams, and they simply did not have enough money. Their old teacher, who was playing in the tourney, offered to pitch in money to allow them to play, but what ultimately kept them from playing was that one of the kids parents could not show up to sign a waiver. I cannot say if the team you mentioned is the same I just described.

I make no excuses about the shortcomings of our tournament. I just wanted to say what was behind those shortcomings.

I have a request of you and anyone else who has observations about our paintball field...

Bring your observations to a ref!! Let us know what you're seeing....what's good...what's bad. We're busy trying to keep games going and cannot concentrate on everything all the time. We rely on the players for suggestions on how we can improve our field.

I hope you continue enjoying our field!

Slyfinger,

It is considered as innapropriate etiquite to post on behalf of a field that you represent professionally. Inotherwords, if you own, work at, are sponsored by, are a beneficiary of, a field then it is considered biased by posting any comments about your field.

Now that being said, you may simply be just trying to clear the airwaves and explain the situation more clearly. However you still need to just let the posts and reviews come. This board is by players for players.. It is up to the PLAYERS to decide what comments are true ect... so if an owner (or one of the others mentioned) is rebuking a post then it just looks likethy are covering thier arse.

That's incorrect. It is inappropriate for field owners to post reviews, but it is completely acceptable for field owners to post comments.
