Period of Field Use:
January 20th, 2007
If you’re a casual paintball person and just wants to have some fun with your friends, this is not the field to go to. The guys that run this field have total disregard for their customers that aren’t “pros” and come out every weekend. I went out with a group of 12 (pre arranged) family and friends for a birthday outing and it was a pretty horrible experience. 9 of the 12 had never played paintball before and when we saw all of the pros equipped guys getting ready with their totally automatic guns we asked if we were going to be able to go on a field that was strictly newbie’s with rental equipment and were told that they only had one ref and we’d be ok because they were going to split them all up. Yeah right, it was a slaughter on every game. It’s absolutely ridiculous to think that it was fair on any level. They only ran one game at a time never splitting the pro equipped guys from the rentals. It was a minimum of 30 minutes wait between games. We were there for 5 hours and only got in 6 games that were a max of 15 min each. When a game finally got going, you were out so quick because the moment you entered the field a hail of automatic fire covered your area that you couldn’t even come close to matching. We asked no less that 4 times (between the first 4 games) to be split up into more reasonable groups (matching skills and equipment) and were each time given some story about not enough refs or this one will be better. The more people that showed up to play as the day went on, the more people were added to each game. At one point there were no less than 35 on 35 as I counted 70 in the staging area.
To make matters worse, the pro equipped guys didn’t like it when they got shot by a “rental” so they would just cheat; wipe off the paint and then slaughter you with their automatic weapons. You had no choice but bail out of the game even of you wanted to cheat to make it fair as you would get welted up pretty good with a hail of fire coming at you from 10 feet away. They didn’t care, they were having a good time, and we weren’t.
So – if you’re an avid paintball player whose idea for a good time is taking you pro-level gear out to a field, ignoring all of the rules, cheating at every turn and yes, the best part, completely slaughtering the weekend rentals whose skills and equipment are inferior to yours, this is the place for you. Anyone else, go somewhere else as you will waste you money and be someone’s target practice.
Dispute: i am chris. i work for Brian as a ref and do many other there aswell. If you think that it isnt hard to ref a game, then you need to think again dealing with coustomers and so called pros is hard than it looks. with respect to you i am on one of the teams i work and i play i know how games work spliting up a team is hard to do. once again no disrepect but i will mintion this and this alone you need not to post bad things about the refs if you think that we did a bad job tell us or Brain who is at the desk 99.9% of the time. that is all
I was not present during the day this "incident" occurred however I do have a few comments I would like to make.
After reading Infretta's comment I got the impression she was a first time player with a bad experience. After reading the e-mail she sent to the owner, I know she is an occasional player. Although not exactly dishonest, it is disingenuous.
Infretta continually refers to the "pros" she encountered. If by pro she means someone who wears old camo and carries a Tippmann 98C or A-5 then there a lot of professional players there. By any other definition of pro there are no professional players at PBA, just a bunch of folks out to have fun.
Yes, there are cheaters that play at PBA. Just like there are cheaters on every other paintball field I have been at. I do know that the majority of the regulars I have met are stridently against cheating. It takes away from the fun for everyone. I also know that the staff at PBA has had no qualms confronting anyone accused of cheating and have seen people asked to leave when it becomes a constant issue.
I have a few comments on the " hail of fire coming at you from 10 feet away" that is further explained in her email to the owner. First, I find it very hard to believe that she was sneaking along with a friend and neither noticed a person 10 feet away. If that is indicative of how much attention she gives to the game then I now understand why she lasted only 2-3 minutes in each game. Every time I have played at PBA the surrender rule is brought up. Basically the way I understand it at this field there is no minimum distance unless you surrender and raise your arms in the air. If Infretta shot a few paintballs within 10 feet of an opponent he was probably startled. If it was me I would have spun and fired! (NO SURRENDER, DEATH BEFORE DISHONOR and all that gung-ho stuff) She also said she "scream at him to stop while firing one or two rounds". I may be wrong but firing at someone does not sound like a way to get them to stop "playing." Again, if I was her opponent and she continued to fire at me then I would assume two things. One that she was not surrendering and Two that I hadn't hit her yet. I too would have unloaded upon her with my professional Tippmann 98C with it's awe inspiring "automatic" RT. (The only difference is she would have had 15-20 welts center of mass. Difficult to miss at 10 feet with a "hail" of 10 balls per second.)
Dispute: My name is Juan im on one of the "pro" teams named Coldfire, we play at PBA on a regular basis. May i start off by saying, It seems as if you have absoulutly no paintball expirence even though you claim to have 1 year what ever. Um everyone has wiped before its not like its somthing new.... and i clearly remember yall out there that day, i heard alought of whining and complaining from yall and was getting quite fed up about it and i probobly did put 1or2 more pballs in you but as far as cheating goes....YOUR CRAZY. second: brian is busy all the time and tries to tend to everyones needs, as well as shewbert and chris and scott do and ill even help you out if you need somthin so its not like there is a lack of help.....so may i ask what in the hell are you complaining about? this is the best feild in jacksonville, and the guys that come out there are all for shooting people and making new friends. So let me leave you with this, if you are so disgruntled about the "pro" players or w/e its your fault for even playing paintball cuz whether you like it or not you are going to get lit up sooner or later and again and again.
I havent played at this field YET but i do plan on attending. I have read these comments and emails. Now ive played on and off for 4 years or more and I must say that no field is without its share of problems weither it be players or anything. I dont know the owner or anything about the place but the Owner seems to be a caring guy and i think id agree when saying talk t him before accusing him of running a bad field. Further more i hope to see everyone when i do make it out there.
