Crewdog78 Saturday, December 20th, 2008
Period of
Field Use:
Just once
Date There: October 15th, 2008
Paintball
Experience:
2 years
Other Fields
in the Area:
None in the local area
Directions
to the Field:
Once on base go towards the golf course and turn into the housing area. Take a left by the school and keep following the road until you come to a gravel parking lot on the left before a large barn looking building. There should be two large storage containers and probably a few picnic tables under a tent by some bleachers.
Review: Pros:
- If you're stationed at Sheppard it's within walking distance.
- It's reasonably cheap, which is good since if you're at Sheppard most likely you're no higher than an E-3.
- For rentals they've got three Spyders that are good for the fields they have. All the other rentals they have are Tippman 98's that are well maintained.
- The bleachers allow you an excellent view if you want to watch a match.
- Given that it's on an air force base you get to play against people from all over the country.
- Almost everyone there is an airman that got out of Lackland less than a year ago, so everyone knows the same fundamentals of combat, which makes it easier to work as a team.
- The tables have shade.

Con's:
- Only two fields. One static speedball, the other airball.
- Almost everyone there is an airman that got out of Lackland less than a year ago, so everyone knows the same fundamentals of combat, which means the other team knows everything you do.
- Almost nothing in the way of facilities, so stop at the commissary on your way over and get some Gatorade or something.

Overall it's not much in the way of a paintball course, but if you're stuck at Sheppard AFB the course makes for something fun to do on the weekend, especially if you're phase I or II. If you're in phase I you can go in your PT gear. And even if you're phase III there's still not a whole lot to do in Wichita Falls, so I'd highly recommend Sheppard AFB's paintball course despite the low rating I'm giving it.

Civilians, just don't even worry about this place. Chance's are you won't be getting on base unless you're visiting a relative anyhow.
