Review: Several recreational playing co-workers and I toyed with the idea of trying one of Hornetís Nestís 3 vs. 3 Winter Series Tournaments. Having only minimal woods and hyperball experience and never having played in a tournament, I approached Bob, the owner, about the details. The Hornetís Nest is as much about teaching and promoting the sport of paintball as it is about playing. Bob had Shawn, the Field Manager, set us up with a private clinic just 4 days before tournament.

After a safety briefing and chronographing down to 250 fps for the indoor field, Shawn suggested 4 of us go against him for the first scrimmage as a way for him to gage our level of play and to establish his credentials as an Airball Instructor. He gently eliminated all 4 of us in under a minute! Lesson one complete, we moved on.

Shawnís crash course attempted to teach us proper marker technique, snap shooting, communication, basic strategies, bunker use, etc. etc. When we experienced some troubles with our personal low end equipment we were lent HP Air tanks and electronic hoppers at no additional cost. Every round was informally critiqued with lots of friendly constructive criticism. The only harsh and deserved words were for our minor safety violations (lifted mask or forget a barrel sock in the staging area). Three hours later, tired and lightly bruised, we could eliminate Shawn and I believe we might be able to pass for tournament players. However, humbled by our experience and limited by our equipment, we were smart enough to know we need a bit more practice before going up against sponsored teams, we decided to hold off. Maybe the one in February!

It was dark and 9 degrees outside when we left, so we didnít get to see any of the varied outdoor fields, but if they are designed and managed with the quality of the indoor airball facility, Iím sure they are great.

I believe noobs or proballers, families or bachelor partygoers, teens or corporate execs would find Hornetí Nest perfect for a safe paintball experience. We will return. See you there.
