Great course. I loved the refs. The older ref is really funny, if you shoot him, he will tell the enemy where you are, but its really funny. Sometimes, if he feels like it, he will let you go after getting hit. My gun broke and he gave me a tippman 98 and fixed mine, then gave me a free hopper of paint which is good because they charge a lot for the paint.
The main reason why i liked the course was because of the games. The only course ive been to with games. The had vampire, president, capture the flag, medic, military (head or chest shots only out), and many others. I thought those were a blast. We only used one course, i didnt even realize they had two, but whatever. |

First off, i got there an hour early and it was COLD. WHen the games started though, it started getting warmer. the rules are simple:basic paintball rules with a couple of field rules(dont shoot up in the air because you will hit a boat dealership and you pretty much #@$^ up the business by ending it). Another thing, i went all the way to a wallmart in Carson City from my south tahoe house and bought 2000 paintballs the day before. It was my bad because i forgot that it was an FPO. Dont make the same mistake as me. THe safety is basic and perfect, keep your mask on and a barrell plug and your fine. they tell you when to take the barell plug off your barrell, except one game. they have no food, i think. just bring a lunch or check the website cuz i stayed for a half day. the games they made up are brilliant.there was a game called Vampire where 3 people go on the field in the middle and when the ref says go, one at a time people run on the field. If youre a run on, you can shoot the vampire and theyre out. if you get shot though, you become a vampire until youre out. i was one of the three vampires(it was fun until i got nailed in my face), and i just plowwed people when they ran on the field and they were falling it was hella fun and funny. The refs are cool, they check stuff and they are nice. but one time i thought i got hit in my chin and i asked for a paint check and the ref stood there and stared at me. i happened to be a wide open shot for EVERYONE and got nailed like 10 times. so that pissed me off a bit.
Overall, this is a great place, but there were a lot of newbs and time to break out the cheap co2 powered guns cuz they dont fill compressed air or they just didnt do it when i went there but lukily i used a tipp. when i went. there is also only one field.

I have been paintballing for a little while now and so far this is the absolute worst place i have been, and its truly sad because the actual field and environment has so much potential to be a really great place to paintball and have fun.
So i go to the little shop and see that the only paint they have there is some p. o. s. rps stinger. here was my experience at the field. Admission was 20 dollars not too bad, similar to all other fields. I asked the guy if we have to use their paint. He says ya so im like whatever how much is a case. He says 80 dollars, my jaw literallly dropped. I dont care what kind of paint it is, 80 dollars for a case is absolutely ridiculous. I argue with the guy and be kind of up in his face until my older brother says its not worth it. THe @$$ working there explains that its his buisness, he sets the price. I say well why cant i use my own paint. His reason is that he can regulate where it has been stored and so that its not frozen. I give him a look like... are u kidding..? Im sure its a self esteem boost for him to be yelled at by a 15 year old
So at this point im like what ever dude and buy a case of his riduculously priced 80 dollar paint which i later researched that it can be bought anywhere else for 24 dollars.
But the thing that really bothered me is that the guy that owns and operates the place is a jerk who has probably never played a round of paintball in his life and is willing to scam his customers out of all the money he can get. The park lacks a friendly atmosphere for a great sport to be played. Maybe i have just been spoiled with the fair treatment at all the other places i have been to. For instance anyone who has been to venture games will know what i am talking about. THe owner Mike will help you with anything and is very fair on all prices and has told me he only makes a few bucks on a case of paint. And a hot dog is only a dollar. He will talk with you and tell you paintball stories, help you out and just makes the whole paintball experience alot beter. For instance he gave my friend a rental gun to use for the day when his gun broke free of charge. I cant imagine that ever happening at homewoood.
The bottom line is that when your paintballing, you are there to have fun not having to be wary about through the roof overcharging.
The staging area is decent, some shade, benches
the first game i play it seems like my gun is shooting like i have broken a ball when i get back to the staging area i look in my hopper and there is paint everywhere, like more than one ball had broken in my hopper. This made me furious after paying 80 bucks for it.
The field is built out of plywood with random shapes cut out everywhere. There are also hay bunkers which if your not careful can be pushed over. SInce most of the people there are new they dont dare stick there head out and shoot instead they shoot from the tiny little cut outs in the wood. Very annoying and poor set up. It makes it very hard for you to hit them and youll waste paint trying. Sure you could do the same as them but it makes for a boring game.
They dont fill air there and the velocity for the field is very low (260) i dont really like it at that because my autococker isnt as accurate. And another thing is that they only make you chrono once for the whole day which could make it easy for someone to cheat although i didnt notice it going on. Maybe theyll do it more often if it becomes a problem. But 90% of the people playing there are playing for the first time with rentals. Good target practice. Which is also why it would be fun
refs......... The place is basically run by 2 kids not adults.... but i would say they were about 15-16 years old. Kinda unprofessional. I havent seen kid refs at any other places i have played. For the most part they are okay but one of them is probably the most annoying and full of himself people there. For most of the games he is just Screaming at the top of his lungs for people to move up. I didnt understand why he was doing that, its not his place as a ref and also.... distracting ..... annoying .... and another odd thing for a ref to do is carry a gun which they did. The reasoning behind this: to shoot back at people that shot him at 350 fps is what he said. Now first of all when a ref gets hit, its usually an accident... derrrrr derr derrr. ANd that ref acts like hes hellla tufff and acts like; why is everyone so afraid of being shot; but it seems like he is more afraid than anyone else......... Watching from a hill.
Yet another bad thing about homewood, the refs like to play a game called command and conquer, basically, you move where your told to move or you get shot by the ref. Sounds fun doesnt it
I get angry cause i could run the place a thousand times better, attract a thousand times more customers, get a thousand times as many to come back, and have my players have a thousand times more fun with not that many changes. Sure you can say " then run your own buisness" well sure i can,, but im not ,,, thats just the way i F*&%ing feel
yes they are just my opionions, sure some people will come back there and play again, most likely becuase they are oblivious to how much they are being robbed, or maybe becuase it is the only place to go in the tahoe area unless you go to reno. I dislike it and am never coming back, hope this review helps unless of course you enjoy being shot by the ref, losing all your money and sweating your ass off.

This was the WORST experience of my life. There are only 2 sections, a speedball coarse made out of plywood boards, and a wood area(which i do in my backyard). These guys are the lamest owners ever, i'd be suprised if they've ever paintballed in my life. The refs are wimps and do nothing but nag like a *$%&#. They only let us use there gettho woods coarse once because they said we had to many people to moniter in the woods (so might as well not even have it). This was a cheap set up that these guys made for a quick buck and it sucks my @$$. If your ever in the Tahoe area and want to paintball in summer, just ask a local were the coarse up on Oniteus Street is. It's kinda in wood territory and people only usually play on saturdays or friday afternoons. This is just a local spot and way better than the crap experience at HomeWood |

alright i love it there.. the paint is expensive but u can work around that by goin g towards the end of the season its 45 bucks a case... they dont fill air but that doesnt matter unless u have no life other than paintball.... not saying any names.. but the refs are great they are friendly.. if u aresnt an ass to them they will talk with you and give u pointers about the course... not that i needed any.. but u can sometimes get em to go and shoot the lil kids :-p Roger is the british guy.. not australian.. hges awesome just dont shoot him unless hes playing, he will shoot u back, u shouldnt have any problems with em as long as u obey the rules and dont complain i dont mind playing with the newbies... its good to help out the next generation of players sometimes other players go that have experience so it gets fun.. overall homewood is great ive been going there since i started playing and have always had fun :) they have one field up currently because the locals complain if they have too many or too many close to the road. |

This place is great. The only bad thing is it cost a lot to buy paint here. The staff is nice. The tournament players that play on your team sometimes are also nice and helpful. The rental guns curve sometimes, but they're still good. The course is really good. The bunkers aren't that big so its hard to find good cover. The hay on the ground makes it easy to kneel down behind the bunkers. It would also be good if you could bring your own paint. But as they explain they don't want people freezing the paint.| Last edited on Thursday, August 26th, 2004 at 3:09 pm PST |

this field is horrlible. they have two airball fields they dont let u use the top one cuz the refs dont want to walks 100 yards to it. the people that go there are all beginers the refs were thinking about not letting me play cuz they said I was to good lol. THEY DONT FILL AIR. I had to use my piranah and i still killed the newbies and there parents. OK THIS IS THE WORST PARTS PAINT IS 90 BUCKS A CASE PLUS U HAVE TO BUY ADMISSION TO PLAY ONE DAY COSTS 110 BUCKS AND TO PLAY WITH NEWBIES AND A PIRANAH WAT A LOAD OF BULL****. TAKE MY ADVISE GO TO A MOVIE ITS MORE FUN THEN PLAYING THERE. I HAVE BEEN PLAYING A LONG TIME AND KNOW HOW A GOOD FIELD IS RUN AND THIS IS NOT A GOOD FIELD. O YA AND IF U SHOOT THE REF UR OUT CUZ HE SAYS HE DOESNT LIKE TO GET HIT CUZ IT HURTS SO I TOLD HIM NOT TO REF AND HE ALOMOST KICKED ME OUT FOR THAT. LOOK THIS PLACE IS A LOAD OF CRAP AND I HOPE THEY GO OUT OF BUISNESS CUZ THEY RUN SUCH A HORRIBLE PLACE. |

This is a great place to paintball. They have two courses. Both of these are speedball. They aren't the best made fields but they are arranged nicely. I wasn't able to play on the upper course either time that I went because the were rearanging the setup. The bunkers at this field offer litlle protection but that makes the game more challenging. Many beginners go to this field, so if you want to pummel some beginners with paintballs this is the place to go. It's only open during the summer though, during the winter it's a ski resort. |
