I have played at spikes at leats once a month for the last couple of years and have always had a great time. The owners are wicked-cool guys who never hesitate to answer questions, give advice, or just chew the fat. The refs are also very cool and laid back, but they are very sticky on safety, which is a plus because this field has a lot of new players showing up to play.the fields are well maintained with lots of variety. Which keeps both the speed ball player and woods ball player happy. I have heard the owner talking of adding to his large woodsball field to make it big enough to have a scenario game in the spring/summer of '07. With in the last couple of weeks they have had the electric company come to install power poles(not sure if it's working yet but will be very soon) also come the spring of '07 washrooms are supposed to be installed. He has a convenient compressed air fill station there now as well that is nice and quick fill ups. All in all the field and the staff are way cool, making a fun time for both newbies and experienced players. give Spikes a try it's worth it. |

First of all, the prices.
Gun Rental is 20$, this is for 3 hours of play it also includes 100 paintballs, air, camo clothing and googles.
Bags of 100 Rds = 10$
Bags of 500 Rds = 40$
Not bad in my opinion, if there was some field competition I'm sure the prices would probably drop though. I'm just concerned about the paint costs only, the rental fee in my opinion is fine. When I was there it was only one payment of 20$ for the day(for the rental). Not sure if it has change or if they just dont enforce it.
The refs, some care about whats going on and are great to talk to and learn from. Others might as well be a replaced with a tree. Other times there are no refs, which is usually fine with me.
They Chrono every rental marker before it is put into play but they are not always checking the markers players bring onto the field. But most players are smart enough to have them chrono them.
There are 4 fields I played on. 2 Woods and 2 speedball.
1. Speedball with wooden bunkers, this is by far my favourite of the two speedball fields. the bunkers are in standard formation with a snake on one of the sides. Its pretty standard play and even with my pump marker, I didnt feel at a disadvantaged or overwhelmed.
2. Speedball with oil drums. Not a course to my likely, I hardly play it and it seems to be the field I do the worst on. On the bright side, the drums sound cool when they get hit.
3. Woodsball with even ground, Lots of little hiding places, wooden and natural bunkers through out. Preferred CTF field. Largest of the 2 woods fields.
4. Woodsball with hill top, a smaller field with a slight hill that one team starts on, from my experience its more fun to be the ones trying to take the hill. It has wooden bunkers and some but not alot natural cover. No bells or whistles about this field but it is my favourite of them all.
MISC: co2 costs around 3$ for my 9oz, they usually have pop for sell, sometimes BBQ as well. One thing it is lacking is washrooms. The masks and markers -tippy 98s, are somewhat beat up, but function well and are very suitable.
All in all, I prefer paintball in the woods with my friends, Spikes offers a new alterative for some of my friends who do not own a marker or are just getting into paintball. The players and owners are nice, and its always fun to play there. |

I played at Spikes my hole paintball experience. All the guys there are cool and they no what there doing. They have 5 fields they have 2 speed ball there the best 2 woods firld or woods ball and 1 dirt mound field sometimes they have air ball up but only when the owner of it is there.
They owner is a really nice guy and he will help you out with any of ur problems.
The price for paint is $10 for 100 $40 for 500 and $160 for 2000 the prices are a bit high but u dont have to pay 10 to 20 bucks to in or to play 2 hours and stuff like that.
If u only come with ur little bro or sis u can just ask one of the guys and u can play with them if its your first time out ur probably gonna like woodsball alot more than the others but after a bit u'll love speedball!
I give Spikes a 10 outa 10 because of the people fields and if u wanna rent its 20 bucks u get a tippmann 98 custom with a 20 oz tank a mask and 100 paintballs.
So i highly recomend it to any players! |

Spikes is a excellent place to play, the guns were well kept, they are tippman 98's with 20 oz. tanks. The Fields were excellent and the speed ball was amazing. The owner was really nice, i didn't notice the misquotes at all, i did notice the issue about the windex and i didnt like it. There were two dogs there and their raging hormones were not that pleasant. All in all they were excellently designed playing fields.

I think Spikes is the BEST field!! All the people there know there stuff. They have 2 wicked speed ball courses, an awesome wood course with sniper towers. And they have a speed ball in the woods (woods ball for some people) and 2 air ball fields. They have tippman 98 with 14 Oz tanks I think.
The prices are great, The best around. Barrel Plugs and masks were highly enforced. They have a few benches with a good sized roof to sit under on hot days. They sell pop but no foods.
There fields are located near a swamp so there allot of mosquitoes but I guess if your having fun they dont bug you as much, I never had a problem. But bring bug spray just in case ;). Everything else is nicely built and it's a great field to play at!

There still are no bathrooms, electricity, or running water, as of March 2004, however the owner is building a new indoor field close by, or perhaps on-site, so that may change in the near future, the indoor field is slated to open in September of 2004.
There is now a decent sized shelter over the picnic tables. Food now consists of hotdogs and soda (or pop, as it's called in this neck of the woods). There is a conveinience store located about five minutes away, but bringing food and a cooler of drinks is still a good idea however. The owner is friendly, and was a pro player on the Philly Americans untill his retirement after World Cup 2003, Rowdy MacDonald.. Both he and his brother, Randy, playerd pro and usually are happy to help new players become familiar with the sport, or give more advanced players some tips if time permits.
Guns are still Tippmann 98's, masks are non-thermal, and OFF or someother bug repellant is a must for woods play, or even to stand around, the field is located near some swampy land, and the mosquitos are waiting for you, trust me. There is a mirrored wooden speedball field, and an almost mirrored speedball field composed of large furnace oil drums (the 300+ gallon variety), there are two wooden fields as well, the larger one with wooden bunkers and the smaller one, with wooden bunkers and thick brush in spots, two leveled grass areas are for Airball, but the airball field is only set up for team practice or tournies. Parents can don goggles and go watch the play, or take pictures if they like, however, they may get some paint on them.
There are now two hand held chronnies, however the owner still likes to eyeball the shots, but he's pretty good at it, we chronnied him afterwards and he's setting the gun's around 270-280fps typically. Guns brounght to the field are checked and chronnied however. There is a large local Am team that plays on this field every Sunday; Spike's 5150, and they are glad to have the chance to go up against any players of similar or better quality, but they don't beat up on, or even play the newer players, usually keeping to themselves practicing on the Speedball fields. Some week-ends the airball field is set up for a team practice, and anyone can play on it after the home team is finished, or they can play against the home team if they like.
Barrel plugs are enforced, as is goggle wear, and you get yelled at to put your goggles on quite fast by the reff if you remove them on any of the fields. The local reffs are also well qualifed, having reffed both local events and World Cup 2003.
The field is located in York, Prince Edward Island, which is roughly ten minutes outside Charlottetown, the Island's capital. It's also about fifteen minutes away from the Island's largest hospital, if you are accident prone.
This is my home field, so I'm biased, but it's a fun place to play. As long as you understand the amenities are rather rustic in nature, and come prepared (with bug spray, and maybe a cooler of goodies) you'll have a great time. (Seriously; BRING BUG SPRAY!!!).

I've never played any fields other than spike's on PEI, although there was a listing for McKay's paintball in the phone book. |

I played at spike's once, and I had a good experience. The owner was friendly, the other players were nice, and everything pretty much ran smoothly. There were problems with the facilities though. There were no bathrooms, there was no food, there was no chrono (The owner eyeballed our shots to see if we were shooting hot) and there was no shelter, other than our cars. The rentals, I believe, were Tippmann m98s. They were very used, but in good working order. Barrel plugs were definitely enforced. The masks were one thing I had a problem with. At the staging area, there was a table full of masks, cloths and windex. Using cleaners like windex is NOT a good idea, as the lens will possibly become very weak. I brought my own mask, so this wasn't an issue.
The fields were great, except for the woods fields. The woods field was FULL of mosquitoes, I had bites inside my mask and everywhere else. There were roots sticking out of the ground everywhere, and plus, I lost my squeegee there. No biggie, but the mosquitoes bugged the hell out of everyone. Their speedball fields were simply great. It was the first time I'd played speedball, and the fields were well built, and very clean. There was another field we played on, I forget the name, but it was pretty much the same as the other woods field. The mosquitoes here in the summer definitely killed our fun, but weren't a problem at all on the speedball field. At any rate, it was a good experience overall. I'm going to give this a 6 because of the big problems with safety, but other than that, it was a good place to play. |
