Having been there recently, I can agree with the above posts and confirm that not much has changed. There were 3 people on staff the day I was there, but we were only using the "tournament" field.
The staff was friendly, and we got service with a smile. I was hoping that the refs would actually REF, instead of jut standing at the sidelines and counting down to start the games.
It seems that air fills are only to 3000, but games are short and that SHOULD be enough.
The one I didn't like is that its a FIELD PAINT ONLY field. That usually isn't a problem, but in this case id was disappointing because the field paint was all incredibly dimpled "white box" stuff that wouldn't shoot straight. The staff agreed with us, and encouraged us to write a complaint to management, even helping us find the feedback form in the office. Hopefully this issue will be resolved (especially at $65 a box!)
The nice point about the fields on US military facilities is that we can play at 300 fps. On Japanese fields OFF base, we are limited by Japanese law to 177 fps. |

Well from what I've read here on the other reviews not much has changed since the first
review in 2004. The staff is few but friendly, couple of Japanese regulars and local
base pros... all friendly and willing to help noobs and rec players like myself!!! other
than that the fields have not changed but really for this area there is no alternatives, so
it is what it is... the only other thing is that they are only open on Saturdays from 9am to
3pm which sucks but again what choice do we have?? I've seen other fields back
home and this one rates about a 6 out of 10 from my experience |

This feild is the first one i have ever been to. not that big but who cares it is my first time there. the guns were 98 customs. small feild up in the tama hills. small compared to the ones i ve seen around. around the field is large freakin trees. and sometimes you can play in there. beware of the giant mosquitos. good japanese and american workers some base pros go there and alot of other people 2. my friends and i had a blast. over all a good place. |

To start a quick rundown of what Tama has.
As far as services go tama has your standard rental deals at a great price. $5 will get you a 98custom, hopper, 20oz CO2, and a mask. Everyone pays the standard field fee of $10 for the day. Paint is a selection from Draxxus Blaze, or 32* Team Colors. At $60 its the best price for paint in Japan. Tama also rents out a few Smart Parts Impulses when they work for a few $ more than the 98customs. Unfortunatly they are wrecked quite often from the abuse new players put them through. Try to get there early if you want to use one. Everything at Tama is first come first serve!
Tama Hills has 3 fields, each very different from one another and all cattering to a different style of player. The first field is located right next to the staging and rental area and is probably the most used.
Field one is a concept field made up of a mix of inflatables, 55 gallon drums, tires, and a few odd pieces found here and there. It is a good size for tournament style play, and so long as its changed often, is usually a lot of fun to play on. The biggest complaints about this field are the lack of grass (killer when its wet) and the fact that if the players didnt take it upon themselves to change it and do upkeep every now and then it would never get done. However one has to take into account the minimal staffing the field recieves. All in all a fun field to play on and the best of its kind within the region.
Field two is a wooded concept field. Compared to the first field it is much larger in size and has many more obsticals to utilize. Set up in a large bowl shaped area, the field is especially popular with recreational and newer players. This particular field has recently been updated and all the bunkers are freshly built. This field is genuinly fun to play, with the only thing to complain about being the bowl shape of the land lending itself to a few rather embarasing moments of tripping, falling, or otherwise loosing your footing.
Field three is a heavy wood/jungle area that is that hasnt really been thought out. Built (or rather grown) into the side of a hill there are trees, vines, bushes, and lots of dirt. Basicly there was space enough to have a field, but no one really wanted to make anything of it. Not much fun to be had if you ask me, but the Rambo crews seem to enjoy it. Hopefully in the future someone will make changes.
Now is probably a good time to list the poorer parts of Tama. For starters staffing is really on the low side of not great. Its not a question of compitence or manners, but rather of numbers. 2 people cannot watch 3 fields and 1 cash register. Just cant happen. This simple problems leads to players reffing themselves, or having 1 reff try to watch a 10 on 10 game in the woods. If everyone were honest no problem. But the world we live in isn't that nice.
Second on the list of problems is hours of operation. The field closes at 3, and even durring the worst parts of the year there is sunlight till about 4:30 or so. Of course this is a player complaining so take this with whatever grain of salt you like :)
Other than those things though tama is a good field. It has lots of options, good prices, decent paint, and friendly regulars. Sure there are a few things that could be changed, but all in good time. Therefore I give Tama Hills recreational facility a 7 out of 10. Pretty good, better than most, but not the best.
