Champions is great for me and my friends mostly because, for us, they are the closest xball field around. My other favorite aspect of Champs is that its BYOP, which is great for me and my friends since were just a group of 16 year old kids who dont really have $70 to spend on paint alone (like at Liberty). The Ref's may not be the best, but they are very personable in my mind since they are all pretty close to my age, ha. The only real negative that I would say about the field is the dips and uneven surface of the field. On a true xball field, you'd expect a level playing field (literally). The rutts and ditches in the playing surface are pretty bad, and they make sliding and diving a realy nightmare. But, I think that they can definitly be fixed, if only the guys who owned it would be willing to. |

This a review for the new '07 season, from march till may. I have played there many times before.
-----Now, the last tourny of last year didnt go as planned. The Head ref thought he was "all that" and he was fired. The other refs were excellent, but they were being held down by the ex head ref.-----
-Champion has an X-ball field(a few feet short of full size) and a Woodsball field spanning 4-5 acres. there are plans to build a smaller 3-man field to run practice drills.
-Starting in '07, on Sundays, if you have a marker that can shoot 15+ BPS, you get entrance/air/paint(stinger or heat) for $50. I say that is an amazing deal.
-Now since we had that NorEastern the woodsball has turned to a flourishing Jungle type environment, and the staging area and speedball field has been stripped of grass.
-the man behind the counter at the field is Bill, he is also the owner of the field and Champion Store. one could say he is a bit stingy, but also very nice.
-Champion seems to host a lot of parties on Saturdays, so team practices are on Sundays (more people come on Sundays due to the $50 deal)
-Safety is a top priority at Champion from my observations.
-the refs are more experienced on Sundays than on Saturdays, most are high-schoolers and a few are GPL certified
-More people are Beginning to come to Champion to play X-ball and Woodsball.
If you live in Duchess county I would say check it out. I believe you will grow to like it.
-Many GPL and PSP teams have started and practice at Champion. It is a great place to scrimmage.
-Now, the refs are usually friendly and helpful. but sometimes can get carried away in socializing with other players.
-there is a 280fps crono limit
-the staging area are just huge wire spools. not to high brow.
-Every weekend is BYOP, but the $50 for air/entrance/paint is only on Sundays for teams or for people with markers that shoot +15 bps.

My son started playing last year. The owner and refs are incredibly nice and very helpful. As a newcomer to the game, their eagerness to help was much appreciated.
As for the fields:
The woods field is awesome. Large and varied in terrain, plenty of cover, and set up for interesting game play.
The xball field is impressive.Although I can not comment (from experience in xball fields) on the layout, I believe other reviews will support my view that it is first rate.
The staging area is good, and the service in getting refreshments/supplies is great.
The most important factor in my very positive review is the company that runs the field. The owners (Bill and his wife) are great people, and work extremely hard 7 days a week to run this business. The gun tech at his shop is awesome (and fortunately for me, extremely patient).
I have read the reviews by xball tournament players regarding the refs. I have no experience from which to comment on that) as my son has played no tourneys). However, I have to commend the refs for their willingness to diagnose and fix any equipment issues for any of the players. I have had refs strip down, clean, and repair my son's ion on the spot
I have also been extremely impressed by the players that play and hang out here. The regs have been very friendly, welcoming, and helpful. If you are a parent interested in letting your child explore the game, this is an important consideration.
Please remember that this is an awesome asset to our area. It is also the product of a hard working couple's work and ambition. They do not gouge you on refreshments, supplies, or a "field paint only" policy. As a result we locals have a great, reasonably priced, and convenient place to play.

A few things....... reffing sux, a few of the reffs are awesome but most are scared of being ht head reff is pretty nice once you get to know him, the field is pretty good for the size of the place but could definatly be flater, the owner of the store (not field) is one of the nicest guys out there, one sponsered team are rich boys that dont know how to play but spend all their money on angels and think theyre good, prices are real good in my opinion, understaffed but thats not their fault, overall a good place to play |

I was at the tortment on sunday to
and
it wasnt that good at all.
The refs were horrible,
and they didnt check people when you told them to.
The head ref didnt count the points write on one of the finale games,
and when i was getting check after having to yell paintball check about 20 time ( not a lie )the ref knocked me out of my bunker and i got hit.
Kids were whipnign like crazy and they woudlnt call it .
My teamate got called out for cursing when he was yelling
"get that kid out ,get him out ."
I wasnt pleased at all with the feilds bunkers ( the set up i like ) because they always lost air and had to reafill them and the ground was slanted and the out of bounze line was brown, so if there is an out of bounze line make it a bright color so people can see it or just dont have one and use the net

My friends told me about playing in this tournament on Sunday and at first i was stoked. They told me it was an X-ball field set up to the 2006 world cup. I looked up the field layout and was amazed. I honestly couldn't wait.
In a couple days my other team member told me a little about the field. I was skeptical at first, thinking a field could not possibly be that terrible. I checked on this website and read the horrible reviews i saw and began to think this tournament might not turn out so well.
On Sunday when I arrived at the field at I was dumbfounded. The field, even though it was completely set up, looked amazing. I didn't like the big pond i saw but then again it had rained for 3 days previous.
Then the tournament began. Just as I had thought some of the rules they had just created chaos and slowed the pace of the tournament and also created many a disputes. I watched as the people played to see if what I read about the refs were true. To my amazement, they were. I witnessed the ref watched people wipe and do nothing about it. I watched the refs help people wipe, and without a doubt these refs favored the home teams. Many of the refs also seemed scared to go out onto the field, preferring to call players out from the sideline without checking them. This created problem because sometime players would not even be hit and get called out, or be hit but ask where while preventing the shot to be seen. There was one clear incident in which a player got shot in the mask 3 times, wiped it, a ref ran over, check his body, and called him clean. It was ridiculous. Also refs were pulling players for bogus penalties. Calling a 1-for-1for nothing. Saying players were "playing on" because they took an extra second to stand up after immediately stopping shooting. Calling bunker rubs on players who were just switching from the left of the bunker to the right. Another thing that ticked me off was the head ref. He claimed to have played paintball since 1989, and if true, he hasn't been playing by the correct rules. He felt as if he was "big man on campus" refusing the deal with the top prospects at the field and instead going with bogus claims by the home teams. The owner Bill seemed to be a nice guy and planned to have the tournament running with only a 1 minute gap between games. However with their terrible staffing, it reached up to 10 minutes between rounds. My team at one point waiting almost 1 hour and 15 minutes between our games completely destroying our momentum. In the end we didn't have enough time to play the full 8 round we payed for. Limiting the preliminary rounds to 7 rounds, 3 minutes per game.
Overall I'm giving this field a 2 only because of the actual FIELD, not the staff. Never again will I go there unless for some reason I get to play for free. My recommendations; don't go unless you plan on constant arguments with the refs.| Last edited on Monday, November 20th, 2006 at 3:58 pm PST |

THIS REVEIW IS PURELYY ON THE TOURNEY!
Ok i got here at 8:30. Th parkinglot was pretty far from the feild, like a 4-10 min walk based on how much crap you brought with you. Once we got there my first impression was ok, a few "spool tables" for your gear and 2 trailers set up for a makeshift store to buy food, dring, and paint. There were only a few spools, so we had to set ou stuff up on the floo, witch was a muddy dirt sand. After some hectic chronoing and confusion about what team is playing, we finaly played our first game. The reffing went pretty well, although it was a bit shady. then Our second game went down, we rolled the team but teh head reff singled out our entire team for shooting hot. We were all shooting pretty low actualy, around 270-285 then i chronoed and shot off about 20 shots all hitting between 270-280 and ONE shot spiked to 301 (obviously one swelled ball could do that, the feild paint is evolve, which is the lowest garde of the JT paint line) he docked us 10 points. and then it all went down hill. The head reff started calling one for ones liek crazy! Against one team he called a player for Attempted playing on! He even called a one for one on me for asking him to check me! then he decided one side of the feld needed ALL the reffs while the other side needed almost none! in 5 games NONE of teh paint checks i called out were fulilled, Even after i SAW a kid wipe the shot i got on him! Then the head reff pulled my friend and REFUSED TO TELL HIM WHY! My friend asked a SMART reff if he was hit and after checking him the reff told him no, but he couldnt contest the head reff ecause he would get in trouble! After we saw teh other team wipe we were yelling at the reff to check him from the dead box to check the player but he didnt do that, he decided to pull our SNAKE player because DEAD MEN DONT TALK. The game after he pulled my friend for a hit that he recived the FIRST GAME! it was OBVIOUSLY cleaned off, no shell, no paint at all, just a small blue stain. Totopp it all off, the last game a kid bunkered me, but when he hit bme he was out of bounds. The head reff PULLED ME from the game, and then said as i was walking to the dead box "Oh i just relized that kid was out of bounds, looks like you didnt have to get out, well its too lte now"
Basicly this HORENDOUS head reff is the MAIN reason this tourney SUCKED! We were playing solid, but lost 3 games in a row to lack of paint checks, BOGUS 1 for 1's, BULL pulls, and the fact the otehr team got away with wiping LIKE CRAZY!
The Bad, THE HEAD REFF SUCKED! and most of teh other reffs were too babby to stand up to him or even get in there and actualy PAINT CHECK players. The staging area needed work BIG TIME, and 1/2 the feel was VERY muddy. Feild paint was meh, and did i mention the reffing SUCKED?
The good: Some of the reffs knew what they were doing and were kool guys (why werent one of THEM the head reff), and there was BAWLS |

I honestly had a good time. I didn't play woodsball because i was glued to the X-Ball field. Everyone who played it however loved the woodballs field. Unfortunately there are only those 2 fields to play on. Doesn't seem like an overly busy place, but i'm sure if they put up more fields they will bring in more revenue. Alot of kids, not necessarily noobs but young kids who look like they come often just to play. (kinda like their secret little field) Refs were young kids, but honestly did a better job than alot of adult refs i've had, props to them. Bill the owner seemed like a nice guy, and gave us a nice deal for bringing in a decent sized group. Unfortunately, he seemed very under-staffed as he and, i assume, his wife were handling everythign from admission, to air fills, to selling food, to selling equipment and paint. Props to them too for hustling as well as they did. AND IT'S BRING YOUR OWN PAINT!!!!!...LOVE IT!...it's so cost efficient there
only thing i had to get used to was since there were only 2 fields they place refs on each field...so it wasn't like u had refs assigned to your group...u just choose which field u want to play on and just go...I liked it this way because u don't have to really wait for ur group to get organized u can just go and whoever lags behind can just meet up. Altho it was a bit unorganized as far as saftey precautions...
My complaints...
1)Paint Quality...the paint absolutly sucked...even using a high-end gun and hopper that promote minimal to no choppin or ball breakage...i still broke paint in my hopper, and it was like glue. The field paint looked like watery glue and the shells looked like contact lenses. I opted to buy Stinger and it still was eh....If they could just have a higher quality of paint for the price i think more people would opt to buy paint there rather than bring their own. (oh yea it's BYOP, i love it)
2)Field quantity...it seemed as if the place was new so i'll give them a pass on this...but they definitly need to expand the land for more fields
3)Field leveling, i thought somewhere i had read they leveled the X-Ball field. Unfortunately the day before left pools of mud so noone definitly ran to that side of the X-Ball field...we worked around it anyway...
other than that I really did have a good time
Recommendations for the field...Hire some more people to work the air n paint fills, and to take care of the food. Get higher quality paint....
Recommendation to players...Bring your own paint and a change of clothes... |

Horrible.
I think ill start off with listing the things that made my day somewhat barrable.
1. Paint, i have used the paint before and didnt have much trouble with it, broke a few times but no big that happens.
2. The feild was a great feild, good size, but still everything was way too clumped together and a back men couldnt get a decent lane without shooting over bunkers hopeing to get something. There was also a good amount of mud there which i have no problem with but one part of the feild was full of water, makeing a huge part of the field unable to be used without slipping or loosing a shoe.
3. Bawls. sold for 2.50 .. not bad.
4. prizes went all the way to 8th place, very generous, and some were good prized.
NOw on to complaints, even the good things had complaints...
1. Head Reff, take a guy that is completely full of himself, claims to know what he is doing, give him a mask, orange shirt, clipboard and call him head reff. This guy mad the most bogus calls i never imagined a reff could make, he didnt know the difference between a bunker rub and an actual hit. This guy would watch people play on, wipe, and decide not to bother doing anything about it, every once in a while he would make some kind of dumbas call to make it look like he is doing something. theres more. im not going into its.
2. Orginization. every team was supposed to get 8 rounds. will retards running the show they had to drop a round because we were running short on time. so we paid for 8, got 7. my team had close to 1 hour waits between each game. the head reff would call teams on to the feild that were only on deck or sometimes on double deck, causing so much confusion that games would take 20 minutes to get started. they also seemed to have given certain teams all the easy teams so they would win.
3. wipeing. one of themost agravating parts of paintball, and these reffs, let it happen.
this was my teams first time at this fields tourny's. so we started to play like we could always play, honerably. calling ourselves out, only using what gun modes are permited, obeying the reffs. many teams also did this such as wasted pb&j, nj assasins, and a few more. but all the teams that have plaid there before and "raped" all played untill the the reffs decided there mask was convered to the point where you cant see its original color, none of these teams would make it in another feilds tounry. so eventually at about our last 2 games we started to play their game to actually get a good amount of points. it mad me feel like dirt, but its over now.
i think if you read other reveiws here wipeing is a constant problem.
4. Reffs. kepping the head reff who dragged most of these guys down. they were still the worst reffs i have seen. First off i want to give probs to two reffs who actually used their legs and checked people, they were decent and actually argued the head reff about his dumb calls. But the rest of them were little panzies who would only leave the safty of the net when the head reff yelled at them. (not often)
I hate looking at all the reviews of the feild on this site and seeing how people shoot down good feild. but this feild is not a good feild. so they deserved to get hammered by everyone who goes threw the effort to hammer them. i do not recoment this place to anyone. If you decide to go play paintball in this area, look at MSG in Montgumary or Ring Homestead Camp in middletown. this place is now worth your money.

This is honestly one of the best FIELDS i have ever played the psp format is great... the reffing however is horrible. Now many will say i am complainging because my team did poorly at this tournament but how can anyone win when the head reff is pulling one of ones every single game... he was so bad he took one of my teamates guns and tested it for ramp WHILE the player was still playing.. that play takes one to the face whill he is sitting waiting for his gun back.. the reff gives it back and calles a one for one... no one got off the field right away cause there were no reffs to pull us so he pulls another one for one then decideds to do one more leaving us with one guy left for a mistake he made... and another rule is that if u hang the flag with a hit the other team gets the 50 points for the flag, this rule is not on the website and it was never established during the captains meeting wich consisted of bill yelling with a bull horn all the rules, then because the games were taking too long beacuse there were too many teams (originaly only 16 allowed but we ended up with 18) we were no longer allowed to dispute the reffs calls, not even other reffs, one reff who knew the rules wouldnt pull the player out of the game because a one for one had been called, the kid took a hit to the head and slide into his bunker he then walked off the field, we know he did not play on cause he forgot to put his gun on, the head reff then proceded to run across the field and yanked my player out of the snake nearly ripping his jersey.. all of this is on film and i will add the link when its online.
I love the field it is great and the complex is nice but this one reff was able to ruin our entire tournament and we will be asking for our money back or the fireing of this reff, he has been fired 3 times before according to his son who is on a team who played at this tournament
The rest of the paintballing community who played here is petitioning to have him fired
I WOULD NEVER PLAY HERE AGAIN
