I have played paintball at most of the different fields in East Tennessee, and I have to say that this is by far my favorite. For instance at Olde Towne the owner wasn't very accomodating and acted like we were inconveniencing him by shopping there. And Alternative sport is a very good field, but most of the players are a little better than average so if you aren't good it is a bad place to start.
Play however has something for everyone. I have played there about 10 times and I haven't even played all of the fields. They have a woods/rec ball field for about every terrain type. They have Two speedball fields last time I heard but I haven't played those because I haven't bought a gun that could keep up yet. Although they look very well maintained.
The service at play is by far the best I have experienced. I had a spyder that I won that had a bad valve body. And Mark (the owner) went far out of his way to make sure that my gun got fixed for no charge to me. The pro shop is up to snuff as far as they go. Mark plans on getting a better one as soon as he can afford it, but they have the essentials, they even carry enough gear that you could buy a whole set up there. Beyond that Mark is very accomodating, he let my friend's dad use his mask and gun for a few games on my friends birthday.
The regular players are very nice, the speedball team will tone it down a little for new players so that they can get used to play. Some of the guys have even let me shoot their guns (one of them let me burn off the rest of the air in his 45 45 with his dm4).
Overall if you are playing paintball in east Tennessee you have to check out play for a couple of games. |

Play Paintball is the best field I've ever played on. They have 75 acres of woods and bunkers. There are 6+ distinct "fields" that can be played individually, or used as independent bases for larger engagements. They also have a speedball field if that's your thing.
It seems that every field I've been to had limitations (we're only playing the speedball field today, or that area needs to be mowed). These guy's seem to be ready for whatever you want to do.
The refs wer on the spot but not in your face and they don't mind ramping and rapid fire as long as the players don't.
The pro shop is full service and priced like a store, not a pro shop. By that I mean you don't get raked by the field paint only policy, and they have stuff you can actually use, not just specailty upgrade parts (although they do have those as well).
Great for woods guys, speedballers, newbies or grizzeled vets.

I attended my first tournament there July 8th. The airball field was well maintained. The refs were some of the best I've seen. They were constantly wiping paint off the bunkers and making sure the bunkers were properly inflated. They had everyone chronograph their markers before each game and they allowed ramping. Both of which I applaud. Their proshop was par for the course. I believe they'd have your basics with maybe a few things more. They had a few extras like an air tank, pipe kit, and some jersey/pants. I mean the fields in Chucky...... not exactly a high paintball market. It wouldn't be fair to compare them to say SC Village because of location and population. Anyway, they had a couple of fields I'd like to go back and try. Especially the urban assualt course. It looked awesome! You could see it from I-81. I think they said they were hosting another tournament on the urban assault field with a prize of $2800. I might have to come back and take a stab at that even if I am a speedballer. They had a pretty big building with tables and chairs to sit and relax in shade or get out of the rain if need be. Inside this same building is where they had their concessions. I didn't get anything but, a friend of mine said they were good as well as cheap. I will definitely be back. Mark, keep up the great work! |

My son and I entered a July 16 2005 scenario game, a D-Day re-enactment at this field.
It was the first big game they had put on there, but I must say we had an excellent time. Mark B. has his act together, and it didn't take long to coordinate over 150 players into the RED / BLUE (or Germans/Americans). He has over 72 acres of land to work with, open pasture with tall grass and medium thickness woods with small undergrowth. The re-enactment was great, we entered the game from simulated landing craft into an uphill battle against sandbagged bunkers and complete pillboxes. From there the RED team had 8 strongholds they could fall back to within the woods, from small wood towers and bunkers all the way to the top of the ridge with a fortified school bus. What a great game, we played from 9:30am to past 4pm. Ok, enough about the game, back to the facilities.
PlayPaintball is located near exit 50 from I-81. It is equipped with a large X-ball tourney field, an urban scenario field, and smaller netted sight-in area. Mark has on-site air and CO2, Pro Shop, restroom, covered staging/recovery area and plenty of parking. It is one of the best values around, his prices are quite low comparable to other fields. I will definetly give the facility a high rating, woodsballers will love it as well as the tourney players. A great all-around facility, just what this area needed. I can't wait until the next scenario game - Battle of the Bulge - Oct. 1, 2005. |
