Bunker Hill, Crockett. Point Blank and Bunker Hill are completely different animals so it's hard to compare one against the other. Bunker Hill is all about variety and Point Blank makes do with one course.
Review: Point Blank Paintball Games(PB) sets on the shore of Lake Livingston across the 190 bridge from Onalaska. It's right on the highway and easy to find. We played on the second day the course was open to the public. Andy(owner) was very accommodating and went out of his way to make sure we were taken care of. We had a group of four and were the only ones there when we showed up. Unfortunately they had a severe storm come through the night before and caused a little damage, so I don't think Andy really planned on being open that day. After some work on the field, Andy he was able to round up more players to participate. I really appreciated the effort since we did drive about an hour to get there. To be fair to Andy, he did try to call us that morning but I was out of my service area and couldn't receive his call. In the end, everything worked out and we had eight to ten players at any given time.

Accommodations: As I mentioned earlier, this was PB's second day in existence. Most of the effort getting ready went into the course itself. There really aren't any accommodations to speak of on-site. Andy is working out of an RV and a pick up initially. There were no restrooms. There is a nicely shaded area next to the course to stage and sit under to cool off. Andy did have drinks and snacks available. It's also within a short drive to get food or drinks.

Pricing: Andy let us play for free since it was his opening weekend. The air was also free all day. When I asked Andy a couple days before about his paint, he was honest enough to tell us that he wasn't real pleased with the paint he had and only charged us a $5.00 fee to bring our own. I don't know what the normal rates will be.

Course: It's a speed ball course consisting of right angle shaped plywood barriers with a few canvas barriers. There are a few trees in play on the lake end. There is also an old pick up truck and boat on that end. The course itself is rectangular and about half the size of a football field. It slopes from the highway down to to edge of the lake. There is netting encompassing the course except down on the the lake end. At first glance we thought that the higher end had the tactical advantage because of elevation, but it turned out that the lower end usually won. That end had better barriers and was shaded which made a big difference the day we played(heat index of 115F). We had more fun playing the narrow width instead on the long one. It evened up the course and it really didn't matter on which side you started.

Refs: Andy ref'ed at first and then had another guy ref which let Andy play. Both were fair and involved in the game at all times.

Overall: Crude, but not bad. It doesn't have variety, but you will learn to play the course well before you leave. My only real complaint is that the play is a little too hardcore. The course had been open privately for two months before we played. So the guys that played that day were very familiar with the course and are used to playing it a certain way as a group. I'm not going to pretend to be a paintball expert, but the times I've played either in private or at a public course, we took care not to shoot someone at close range. If you have someone pinned behind a barrier, you could barrel slap them, safety kill, bunker kill or just have them call surrender. In other words, you don't have to shoot someone within ten feet to eliminate them. One of my brothers took a shot in the leg at five feet and the other a shot in the elbow at eight feet(fitting that it's located in Point Plank). Both had the worst paintball whelps I have ever seen period. And in both cases, they shouted not to shoot before they were hit. I realize that part of the game involves a little pain and bruising. But shots at that range are dangerous and leave more than a whelp. During the day, both had safety kills on opposing players. The comment after wards is that those players seemed surprised that they weren't shot. We can only assume that this group doesn't practice safety kills when they play privately. The problem with playing that way on a public field is that it isn't anticipated and you risk players not returning. And if this happens to the wrong person, you will probably have a fight as well. Otherwise, I wouldn't have a problem paying to play PB again one day. Preferably when it's cooler. I can't say enough about Andy and his desire to please his customers. I hope that he tighten ups on the allowable distance on shoots. He has a good plan for the future of his course and I hope he fares well. In the end, it's paintball, therefore it's fun. I'm rating PB as a 6 because I'm comparing it to Bunker Hill which I feel is a 10.
