Review: great field. probably one of the best in/around the delmarva peninsula.

entrance was 20 bucks. ok kinda steep. white box paint was 40. ok, in a feild with a case for 60 or under is good. i mean it was white box so meh, but ok. they have a bunch of fields, but when i was there they had 1 decent airball field, what looked like a brand new X ball feild, and there was a place for thier 7 man x ball field. they also had a scenario field and a woodsball field. so nice selection.

they had 4 air fillers, 3 in teh staging area, 1 near the airball field. all of thier staging areas are in teh shade or covered, with tables. good stuff. even the areas b4 the field entrances have tents. nice touch. the shop area is 2 double wide trailers.

the refs were really cool. easy to talk to and really did thier job. after games the ref and i even talked about paintball, move,s improving stuff etc. its nice to see some hard woking refs that will run across the field when you yell paint check.

there was not much play, probably cause it is memorial day weekend. there was 20-30 people, about 12 playing airball.

all in all some of the best airball ive played in a long time considering the entire delmarva peninsula REALLY blows when it comes to airball/tourney play. lets put it this way, i would gladly drive 1-1.5 hours to play considering my other options.

For Speedball, there is no comparison. This facility has four public speedball fields and one private for a team. In Delaware there are no other "legit" speedball fields set up at competing locations. This is the only location with outdoor sup-air bunkers. The one woodsball field is in my opinion not good. It's acceptable but compared to PaintBallActionGames.com this one field is too narrow to be a good woodsball field. You can't flank or play any strategy as it is so narrow it feels like speedball with trees.
Directions
to the Field:
They are located near Rt 1. You exit at Rt 71 off of route one heading north or west. About 100 yards from the exit you take a left on McCoy Road. Drive McCoy road about a two miles and take another left at your first intersection. This is St. Georges/Kirkwood Road. Drive only a 1/2 mile and Graveyard is on the left. And you'll see how they got their name.
Review: I'm not a kid with cheap talk or put downs. You can expect a solid review here. I'll cover the good and move to the bad.

THE GOOD

LOCATION
Right off of Route 1 near the St. Georges Bridge (in eyesite). You are there inside two minutes of exiting route 1.

SAFETY
I've got some negative things to say about refs, but the safety here is EXCELLENT. They all do a phenomonal job in saftey. You may squeek out of a field with a barrel cover off somehow, but only rarely. And after that, you'll be seen and corrected. Players also know the importance of safety. A lot of self policing among players also goes on here.

PRICE
For $18 you get various fields, refs, fill stations, and good competition.

PAINT
Buy it or bring your own. Excellent way to do business. They sell at $34 at the time of this review.

SPEEDBALL
I'm a woodsballer by nature. However playing about 8 times in two months at Gravyard, I can really appreciate Speedball too. This operation is well thought-out, taken serious by the owners and honestly a GREAT faclity for intermediates to pros. Bad Company (semi-pro?) out of Baltimore practices here often. Other pro teams practice at Graveyard. The facility is extremely well suited for top notch tournament play.

The speedball fields feature both National Paintball Supply sup-air bunkers and traditional sup-air bunkers. I'm told that a couple fields are set to pro-standards within an inch.

The grass is thick and well managed too.

THE LITTLE THINGS THAT ADD UP
The fill stations are fed from behind a wall where they are constantly operating at 4500 and 3000. There are two 4500 stations and one 3000. Along the fields a long building serves as a foundation for tables and overhangs to protect you from rain and hot sun.

They have wagons to tote your gear from your vehical to your table. They do have clean bathrooms with mirrors for both men and women (I assume, no I have not been in the girls bathroom). The concession stand serves hot food (hot-dogs) as well as drinks and snacks.

GOOD COMMUNITY
The people that show up to play at Graveyard are friendly and will share knowledge and gun parts! We'll, if they have them to spare. :)

OPEN DURING THE WEEK!
Yes! Finally someone is open during the week. They are only open Wednesday nights as of the time of this posting and charge a modest $10.00 to play from 4pm to dusk. It's called Streetball night and it is essentially pickup games among intermediate to hard core paintballers. Where you can break to the snake on weekends, you usually won't make it to the snake on Wednesday nights.

THE BAD

PRO SHOP
What pro shop? You can see that ECX has it's meddling hands everywhere and in true style they half-ass the job. In 8 visits I've seen the pro shop open three times.

NOT BEGINNER FRIENDLY
If you are a woodsballer or beginner... be aware of where you are coming to. This facility is built to cater to speedball type play. It draws good to great players. Just know what you are coming to is enough to ready you.
I'm not going to say beginners are treated poorly, but so many intermediates are here that if you don't have a group of your own, you'll be mixing in with all sorts and you may get hammered. However I've found that all the different players that show up at Graveyard will treat you decent if you ask for help. Again, beginner beware. Father and son's should both have some paintball experience before playing here. My last week here I did see a group of four play a number of two-on-two games. The ref's will accomodate you.

OPENS AT 10, PLAY AT 11:30 AM
Wow, in a month of playing at Graveyard this drives me nuts. It is "Hurry up and wait" for what seems forever to get started. Briefly comparing playing at PaintballActionGames.com and at Graveyard, I give PAG the nod for getting players staged and ready to go. Once you get to around noon, things are moving along and you can find a game going on somewhere quickly. But you can easily be there an hour if you get there at 10 am and still be no closer to a game. The Ref's do not seek out players to round up games. You have to collect a ref. However towards an hour into waiting the Ref's to make themselves seen so you can get rolling.

REFEREES
Being a ref is a thankless job. I don't want to insult the ones at Graveyard that do a good job because there are ...but I've seen my share of bad that warrants my outlining it.

They need to improve on personalities and attitude. Here is why:

To start, they don't take getting players staged and ready to play into consideration at all. It's like, if you are ready come get us. They can be anywhere. They don't stay near the open fields. During games I've found what appears to be favoritism among fellow refs that are playing in games. They rationalizine for their fellow friends and pretty much take a territorial stance towards outsiders (aka general paintball players).

This is mostly prevelant among the younger refs. They either don't have the backbone to make important calls or they just don't have a clear understanding of right and wrong.

Having said this, I can't stress enough that I've witnessed excellent ref's. But only 20 percent of the refs are of this caliber. Those 20 percent are not only considerate, they are helpful to the point of advice and tips on gun care. They ALL do a great job of observing safety. To this end I can't complain and applaud them all to a man in keeping players from leaving the field with barrel covers off.
I’d leave a tip in the tip box if it were not for the risk of some of it going to the bad referees. I make a point of telling good ref’s I appreciate their work.

TERRITORIAL IN CROWD
Part of me thinks this is the ECX effect. I mentioned above that ECX does things part way, they also employ disrespectful kids. I’ve seen them badmouth the owner (of ECX) and he doesn’t fire them for insubordination which encourages more disrespect. I think that mentality is seeping in with some of the refs and in-crowd as some of the ECX crowd is present among the Graveyard “in-crowd”.

I’ve said this already as it reflects on many of the refs, but Graveyard also has an in-crowd made up of the owners sons friend’s. They may not take this friendly advice but I’ll offer as I hope they have everyone’s best interest in mind…. Cut out the “too good to socialize” attitude (that’s putting it mildly). Be ambassador’s of the sport and give players that don’t know, a hand up. By the way, the owners son is a good guy and only mildly affected with territoriality. (LOL)

You most likely know who I am and using myself as an example, if I wasn’t a solid player coming from woodsball play, you’d have run me off as I would have better things to do with my time. But there are many players that will come to Graveyard for the first time and may not return if you keep up the “this is my turf” mentality.

I proselytize that newbies should come to Graveyard with the right mental-model but I don’t say they shouldn’t come. If you treat them with respect its better for business and better for the sport. You don’t want folks to think you are punks like skateboarders are generally thought of Elevate paintball beyond that interpretation.

If the shoe doesn’t fit, don’t wear it. The “territorial” types know who they are. ;)

This is currently the best Paintball Field in Delaware...
Review: Excellent field quality, very clean and well run. Sometimes the ref's can be a bit goofy with you, but that can happen at any field. The guy who runs it (Mark) is a very nice guy, and is very professional about how it is run. The store team is a nice group of guys, but they kinda have bad mouths around the younger players. But honestly this isn't really the type of field lesser experienced players should play at. They have 2, 4500 psi fill stations, and 1, 3000 psi fill station.

Right now the only problem I have with the field is that the paint quality is poor, it is at a decent price, but it is poor none the less. Luckily the field is BYOP, so if you have a problem with it, then buy paint elsewhere.

$18 entrance and all day air, field hours are 10-4, depending on when people stop playing. Open on the weekends only, but definately a nice place to play and learn. It's a bit cold right now and they are supposed to have an indoor up soon (Greenhouse), and I will definately update my review when it is up and I have had the chance to play there again.

Overall, I give it a 9 ... but as soon as they have some better paint, and get the indoor field up for the Winter I will definately change my rating to a 10.

Graveyard Paintball is the best paintball field in the state of Delaware right now.
Review: I have been playing there since they opened and the fields are awesome. The guy that owns and runs the place is very nice and the reffing is great. He has several teams that use these fields as there home fields because they are so nice! He has two 5 man fields, one NPPL 7 man field, X-ball field, and the triangle field for something new! I highly recommend trying this field out.
