Review: Horrible customer service, high prices, and average playing fields.

To start off, our group shows up at 12:00 to play an afternoon of paintball. At that point, we had to stand around for 15 minutes until an employee finished up with another customer. Now don't get me wrong, I was impressed with the level of service the previous customer was receiving on his firearm purchase, however, do you think it would have been possible for one of the three other employees I noticed strolling around to come out and take care of us?

One of my friends had his wife/kids inside as well (they were going to hang out while we played paintball). The kids were obviously fascinated by the gun displays and were touching the glass diplay cases (just touching mind you, nothing more). Some crotchety old Neo-Nazi looking dude comes out and tells the parents that he doesn't want the kids to be hitting the glass. Now if surly dude had stopped right there, it would have been fine since I can understand not wanting little kid fingerprints on your display cases. However, before the parents can even make any sort of alteration to their kids behavior, surly dude then says "Would you take them outside. This isn't Wal-Mart. Why don't you leave them in the car?" So of course the stunned mother takes her two well behaved and very confused children outside.
Here's an idea surly dude-If you don't want kids inside your dirty, ramshackle, trailer park esque excuse for a business, then why don't you post signs saying something to that effect? Now I realize the signs might be hard to notice since you have about 8,000 other tacky signs all over the place but at least it might help you avoid being such a jerk.

Price for paintballs is high but you can bring your own.

They have several fields to choose from but they are essentially all the same. How many different ways can you arrange railroad ties, tires, and junked vehicles? Being located on the high plains, it can get quite windy. They obviously don't care about the appearance since there is trash everywhere.

All in all, the paintball was fun but I won't be giving surly dude any more of my money.

Review: I have played at Dragonman's about 10 times and today was the only time they have ever enforced any type of rules.
The times I have been there they have never checked the chrono, they have no ref's during any of the games and they don't ever enforce the rules.
Today I went there to play for the first time in like 2 months and I got kicked off the field indefinately for not having my mask on. The only game that was being played at the time was already over and my brother and I were walking back to the staging area and we got kicked out for not having our masks down. I have never gotten in trouble for that before.

Review: This is an incredible course. There are so many features, and the monster truck tires are good ideas instead of inflatables! My favorite by far! I really hate to use inflatables because they seem like they are just there. Tires and other good urban objects give it an urban feeling and make it where you feel like you are actually fighting, which is always the best feeling. They are a little over-priced, and I personally like woodsball, but overall, it is well put together!

Review: Safety- I see a lot of threads saying that people don't have their barrel plugs in but every time i have went that was never a problem. If someone's barrel plug wasn't in, i didn't notice and that's probably because they weren't sitting across the table from me with their marker pointed at me. :)

Fields- Top Notch; one of the fields is even large enough to put an entire football team on and not be completely chaotic. (I saw an entire lacrosse team get out there a few times one day.) All of the fields are unique to one another and have a great diversity as far as cover, open ground, and elevation change. Fields 1,2, and 4 have to be my favorites because of the difference in cover and the multitude of different ways to play a round there. Field 3 can be extremely challenging if you don't play it "right" (there is no ONE right way to play any of their fields) and field 5 (the enormous field, about a football field wide and about 2 football fields long) is extremely fun to play with any number of people because it has everything from trenches to hilltop warfare to tire bunkers to an ice cream truck you can hide in. Only problem is that the fields are a mixture of field grass and dirt, so if it has rained or snowed recently the fields may be fairly muddy. But i played some of the funnest paintball of my life when i took my team against my friends team out there and it was snowing and raining and the fields were a mess. Just be sure to be smart about how you gear up, get some old ratty jeans or some old BDU's and some boots or shoes you don't mind getting dirty. We were the only ballers out there and Mel let us play for free because the conditions were so crappy. (Don't go try to play when it rains to get free paintball; i am just stating an example of how nice the owner is.)

Hours of Operation- They officially open at Saturday 9:30-4:30 Sunday 10:00-4:30
You can make reservations for parties during the week also and the staff will try to get other people wanting to play during the week on the same day so you can have some opponents. There is usually no shortage of people playing during the weekends as long as the weather is nice.

Prices- Check the site for specific prices but i love that they fill HPA -AND- Co2. Prices are reasonable on everything but bring your own food-paint-water if you can, it's just going to be cheaper. Paint there i have had pretty bad experience with, so if you're using your own marker and you have a nicer setup, don't use their field grade paint, buy some nicer paint from Wal-Mart or something at least.

Rules- The Rules there are "use your common sense". Barrel plugs in when your marker isn't in use, masks on while on the field, etc., etc. No referees out there which i love because you can be truly stealthy in some situations without having people look for where the referees are to spot where the enemies are. You sign a waiver so that if ya get injured they're not liable. There are some old rusty cars with bullet holes all through them so you gotta be smart about going out there. There are also nice wood "fence walls" and they are held together by nails so not totally uncommon to see a nail sticking out all crazy on ya. Just watch for em, i have never really stuck myself in all the years i have played out there. Use the same gear you might go hiking in as far as shoes cause there are some gnarly shrubs out in the plains of Colorado. I wear nice padded leather gloves so if i slam my hand into a car i am running up to for cover, i know none of those bullet holes or anything else on the car will cut me.

Other threads make DM's sound scary and unruly to play at but it's not. Just use your own discipline and if someone is doing anything truly stupid ask them to stop. If they don't tell the staff and they can kick them off the fields.

Service, Proshop, Staff- Great. They are starting to supply SOME gear for guns like o-rings and elbows but for the most part come prepared. Staff is fast and friendly; any questions you have are answered. If you're a new player, they can help ya feel more comfortable with the process of renting, field rules, etc.

Facilities, Food- bring your own food; they do have food in proshop but it's more expensive than stocking an ice chest at wal-mart instead. they have bathrooms there. Overall great place to paintball.

ON a final note- Please be smart about how you gear up to go play paintball. Realize that you're not going to be indoors and NOT going to be playing with blowup obstacles. I recommend some good boots, some heavy clothed jeans or BDU's, and some padded leather gloves. I don't know how aggressive you guys play (as far as running, jumping, diving into cover) but my team and i play pretty hard. I wear kneepads, padded leather gloves (that i don't care of they get torn up), and full BDU's with a nice sneaker or boot with some sole to them. If you do that you should have very little problems with your personal safety when playing at DragonMan's. Please be sure to follow all safety rules with your marker at ALL times on or off the field and keep paintball a fun sport to play for everyone.

- - - - YES some people shoot at the staging area, but it's in front of where everyone sits, not all aroudn where everyone sits. If you are scared to get shot, people shooting around you may be intimidating; but if you're playing paintball there is a fear thing some peopel might have to get over. I have only seen 4 "Teams" ever out there (not counting my own) and 2 of those "teams" were more like a group of friends that play together like once every 2 months. So if you rec ballers or beginners are worried about going and getting torn up by some insane team, DON'T worry. Because there is no referees, etc you can choose who you play with and how you play; and some of the nicest people i have ever met play out there. My Team gladly split up and teamed with a bunch of first-timers so that we could help coach them on strategies and rules. Dragonman's is a blast and the people and safety is great if you just play smart.

9/10 for Dragonman's

Mr Biggs' Paintrunner - Dragon man's is way better than Mr Biggs. Playing at Dragon Man's makes this field seem like it isn't even paintball!
Review: There are goods and bads with this field, so here is my pro/con list:

Pros:
-The fields are absolutely huge and perfect for paintball
-Cool pro shop (all the guns on the walls)
-You can play on 5 different fields, and with your own group if you want
-They offer drinks and snacks if you need them
-Hearing the gunfire from the shooting range is cool while you play
-There is a covered picnic area for when the weather gets bad

Cons:
-It seems kind of dangerous, with the exposed nails and random ditches everywhere
-There aren't really any safety rules, once you sign the waiver, you are on your own
-It gets really muddy even if it drizzles
-There are cacti and other spikey plants on some of the fields
-Sometimes the size of the fields makes the match more like a maze to find other players

Battle Creek- It's alright, the staff was kinda annoying. They're closed now I think though..
Mr. Biggs- Do I really need to comment on how bad it is, they closed..
Splat Masters- Good only if you like speedball
Directions
to the Field:
From Academy and Platte Ave in Colorado Springs (the Citadel Mall) follow Platte Ave. east out to Highway 94 (following the signs to Schriever AFB). Once you get on 94 go roughly 8 miles to the first stop light (Curtis Rd.), turn left at the light and go 1/2 mile north on Curtis Rd taking your first left, Dragon Man Drive.
Review: To start off Dragon Man is a Class III Full Auto Dealer so he does have real guns and a shooting range, don't let that scare you. He also has a military museum and a custom machine shop. The staff, especially Mel (Dragon Man), is very friendly and helpful. Each time I have been there any questions I have had have been answered. There are no full time refs but if you ask one of the staff members to ref they gladly will. At the beginning of the day the have one of the adult players take out their chrono and set it up.

The main people who go to Dragon Mans are beginners and rec players (weekend warriors, which I proudly call myself). The weekend warriors will gladly help anyone who asks with any problems, from fixing guns to tips about playing. It's very easy to jump into a game at Dragon Mans. Some of the nicest people I have ever met were playing paintball at Dragon Mans. Every now and then you will get some team players who are you're usual stuck up "know it alls".

There are you basic safety rules such as a 20 foot surrender rule, a mask on during game play, and whatnot. Barrel plugs are not a common sight though because most people know what they're doing so there's no real need for them. If someone does ask for the barrel plugs to be put in though everyone will gladly put the in. I will put in one small warning about rattle snakes though. I have seen one rattle snake while playing at Dragon Mans. If you happen to see one don't bug it, tell the other players, and then tell the staff. You are in Colorado and in the plains so snakes are to be expected.

Food and drinks are available for purchase in the shop along with CO2 and HPA, all priced very cheap. All day play is $12 if you have your own stuff and $22 if you don't. Paint is cheaper than at most fields but why not bring your own since it's allowed? There is no real pro shop for paintball here so bring your own stuff to repair your gun and whatnot. The rentals are stock Tippmann 98's with 9oz tanks.

All 5 of the fields are amazing. If you play speed ball this isn't the place for you. Dragon Mans is set up to be scenario fields. Because there are no full time refs players can make up their own games and their own rules. If there is a problem either work it out yourselves or don't play with who you have a problem with. There is a staging with 2 huts, one is open on all sides except the top and the other is covered on the top and 3 1/2 of the sides.

Dragon Mans is the best paintball field I have ever been to. It's the only one in the Springs area I will play at. My advice is to bring plenty of water (even though they sell drinks) and sunscreen unless you like dehydration and sunburn. Other than that I cant say anything other than, "what's not to love about Dragon Mans?"

Fields-9
Hours-7
Prices-6
Rules-1
Service-5
Proshop-5
Staff-7
Refs-1
Players-7

---------------------------------------------------
The poor. Lack of refs, rules and over all concern for safety. No enforcement of barrel plugs, chrono or wearing of mask in non safe area. People shooting weapons in safe area. No refs at all, which is ok but they could enforced the no shooting in safe area or by peoples cars. There was guys there shooting hot and we had to break off because we had 3 kids in our group and didn't want them to get hurt.

The Avg. Don't expect the Proshop to have product to buy, but the do have HPA/c02 air, and Zap Paintballs (<---too expensive). The service was fast and friendly and the staff seemed very nice, plus they've treated me nice in the past as well.

The Good. The Fields are great and IMO the best other then just true woodsball. They have a nice staging/safe area and places to use the restroom. The price isn't that bad, since they are pretty much the only recball field in CO.

Conclusion
----------------------
I used to go to DM's a lot about 3 years ago and they used to have refs and enforce safety, but not now. I think if I go again I will park my car up by the main building and walk all the way to it to eat lunch and get PB's and rest. I would not recommend the field for young kids, unless your playing with your own group. 7/10

Review: This place is absolutely awsome Field 1 has fences put up all over the place with a huge mound in the middle with a tunnel going thru it. Field 2 is my favorite it has a bunch of old junked cars that have been burned and shot all over and a bus that u can actually go in(not recomended however) Field 5 is probably the largest and is used for capture the flag some times and all it is mainly a turain with some care tires here and there. Field 4 has giant Monster truck tires all over the place and it makes for an entertaining game when some one actually getts in one. I especially like that there is no refs there and you dont have to worry about having safety on plug in mask on at all times All the people there are cool and laid back theres no need of anyone shooting you off the field and the whole thing about getting shot by a fire arm isnt a real risk the only real way to get shot is if u go into the shooting range.

Review: As we drove up to Dragon Man, we expected to see signs saying "Dragon Man Paintball." Instead, the sign said, "Dragon Man Shooting Range." Our suspicion increased when we started hearing gun fire, even automatic. It disturbed us that the paintball field was sharing land with a shooting range. The dirt rode leading to the field had large mounds of dirt blocking everything from view untill we reached the parking lot. Upon reaching the parking lot, we discovered there were no nets seperating the parking lot and staging area from the field. Also, people were walking around without barrel covers/plugs on in the staging area. Many people were not wearing masks on the field! We saw no refs. One person was actually shooting his marker in the staging area! We immediately left. Upon further inspection of the waver, in the section listing personal injuries that may be caused, "injury by FIREARM" and "puncture from EXPOSED NAILS" were listed! We were very glad that we left and had not ran the risk of causing personal injury.

Positive: None other than the field looks neat.

Negative: No nets
No refs
No HPA
No mask inforcement
No barrel covering in staging area
Shares land with a shooting range
questionable bunker condition (see above)

Overall: We were scared when we left. This field should be shut down. I wouldn't even give it a 1.
