I've been to Bedlam Edinburgh twice now, and both times have left a bit disappointed. The main problem is the prohibitively expensive price of the paintballs..... now, Im just an average joe, i work all week and sometimes have a few quid to spare for silly things at the weekends. Im not mega poor, but im not mega rich either, but a cost of £15 for 125 pellets (around twice the going rate) is just too much. My team and I ended up leaving early because we just couldn't afford to buy any more pellets. It was a problem for other players too.... one poor guy was there with his daughter and was looking pretty worried when he told us that he'd payed out £100 already and his daughter had ran out of pellets! (it was only the 2nd game!). There seems to be some company line about why the paintballs are so expensive..... they re a premium brand, blah blah........ but to tell the truth I didn't notice a blind bit of difference between the "premium brand" ones Bedlam say they use and the "normal" ones that cost half the price at any other paintball venue. They both shoot the same and they both hurt you when they hit.
Its not all bad though. The equipment is serviceable for the most part... the inferno markers they use are OK... the ones I had in two of the games seemed to jam a lot- but that can happen to the best of markers, so I wont hold it against them. The staff are quite laid back and passively friendly (if a bit dis-interested) and the zones are OK, but not great.... they seem to like the "barrels strapped together" approach, which gives it a slightly cheap feel, as if not much effort or expense has been put into it. it doesn't seem so much "custom built" like other sites i have been to, but more kind of "hobbled together" from what they had lying around. There is a small tower in one zone though. whoopee.
all in all I would say you could do a lot better for your money than Bedlam Paintball. Go somewhere cheaper (anywhere) and shoot more. |

I'm not a pro-player but I felt it was about time someone stuck up for this venue.
I've played this site three times now and the staff and the setup always impress me. Bedlam Paintball in Edinburgh is the best site in the area by a mile. They have a varietey of game zones, they have very professional staff - none of the 17 year olds you get at other sites - and their equipment is top notch. Something else I've noticed since visiting other venues with my mates is that Bedlam only use top quality paintballs - none of your low grade, mishapen, burst in the barrel gunk for them! They are pricey, but then, if you only play once or twice a year like me then you don't mind paying a little over the odds for good service and I guess you get what you pay for in this life...
Highly recommended!
