After Reading pbreview.com's forum rules i know that untruthful posts will not be tolerated. My post is completely TRUE, this is my experience of the field. As a paintball player and consumer this was the worst experience ever. I'm not even going to complain about the high markup of low grade paint or the price of their field fees and air costs. In point form this is what happened.
- After I paid the fee's and bought paint i found i and my brother was put on the back shelf, ignored until every other potential customer was put through, we had to wait a long time to get our air tanks filled.
- I asked where the chronograph was and she directed me to the field down below. I went there and told the ref to chrono our guns and he told us to shoot a couple shots through the trees... Apparently he can tell you exactly how fast your guns are shooting just by looking at your shots. We took the shots and he said we were good to go into the field. Already i'm feeling good about how fast everyones guns are running
- we waited a while for them to start up another game and finally got into their tiny bushball field and started to play. Halfway through the game my brother gets shot from across the field in the goggles and his goggles crack. We went to the ref and told him that someone was running hot, he said ok and pulled some kid with an autococker aside and told him to take some shots so he could eyeball how fast the gun was shooting.. you've got to be kidding me. by this time i'm mad because it seemed to me that they don't care about your safety. What if a little kid was shot in the mask and didn't notice a hairline crack then gets shot again.
- I don't care about being shot by paintballs, i've been playing paintball for a long time but you have to draw the line when things become unsafe and when it seems the people who are supposed to ensure your safety don't care. We told the manager what happened and instead of telling us that they'd chrono the suspected people they hinted we should leave. On my way out i told the manager i've never been to a paintball field where they didn't chrono markers and she told me she'd been doing this for 13 years. I told her if she'd been in this business for that long they should know that markers must be chronoed. She told me that she could explain it but i wasn't listening anyway.
So we left. Long story, but I'm amazed that a paintball field can run like this. I didn't write this post to slander the field, I just want everyone to know my experience which was terrible. If you do want to play there, demand that your gun and other guns are chronoed. Its not the point that my brothers goggles were cracked, i know it can happen, the point is that they didn't want to make the situation right, they didn't' want to make sure that everyone was safe. Paintball markers are not to be shot at people or animals when the velocity is over 300 fps. Its simply unsafe. Again i'm sorry the post was so long but i really had to vent, I've never been so upset leaving a paintball field.
**** Note To Admin****
Like I said this post is completely TRUE and is based on my experiences and everything i've said is my opinion. I really want this post to get out there because its appalling a field like this is open. If there are any problems with this post please email me at the address on my pbreview account. Thank you. |

Hey guys -
Just played this field again this past weekend - I think it might have been their first weekend open in 2006. This is my first post - great site!
I think the thing that sticks out in my mind for this field is customer service. I've played a lot of different fields between BC and Alberta and although other fields may be larger in playable terrain, and more suited to "classic" bushball or speedball - this one keeps me coming back whenever I am in Kelowna.
I usually end up playing with family and old friends since I don't come back to Kelowna as much - and most of them do not play paintball, but all of them have a good time at Safari Ridge every time, and to be honest, I don't think I'd want to take them to any other field where they're going to be up against advanced players.
To be fair - I also enjoy a good Speedball game every once in a while, and I like some of the free-roam fields we have in Alberta, but I don't play as much as I used to and I don't really want to spend 8 hours playing paintball like I did 10 years ago. I kind of like the fact that at SR you can go out, play for a couple hours, have a TON of close quarters action, and make sure everyone in my group has a good time too.
Cons: The pricing does seem to change a lot, but I never feel ripped off - you could go out for a night with the boys and spend wayyyyy more.
Some of the field does get a little cramped with large groups, but the refs and management seem to be good about keeping the amount of people on the field at a reasonable level.
I also admit that I am biased towards the management as well though - I wouldn't say I'm a regular but I probably play there once a year, and have done so for about 5 years and every time I come back, the manager/owner (joan) recognizes me and jokes about a hat I left there one year, and actually picked it up the next year when I came back!
If you ask me, it's that kind of customer service and professionalism that will help bring the sport to more people, and help make it enjoyable by everyone who shows up.

Did I miss something? I just got back from Safari Ridge Paintball, and am still scratching my head trying to figure out why it has had so many bad reviews on this site lately. I almost didn’t go there due to the negative comments but when I saw it on the highway it looked kind of interesting so I decided to see for myself. They weren’t open at the time but the manager was there and she let me walk around and scope it out. The more I saw the more confused I got….this is an awesome field! I really liked the close quarters of this field, it is small but not as small as some people have said, it’s much bigger than a typical speedball field, and the electronic scoring sounded a little complicated but interesting.
I was surprised to see how much space they have available, something like 3 hectares, and wondered why they would have only one field. (They have just opened a new larger field at the back of the property that sounds really cool, with a WWII landing craft with a ramp that opens automatically into a hail of paintballs. I have GOT to come back to try that!) Apparently the small field was built to test a design for an indoor field. It’s sort of an urban jungle. Instead of the typical indoor speedball they have strung camo wire to simulate bush ball where you can see your target but can’t always get a clear shot for all the branches and twigs. That’s a great idea!) They have a company that actually designs and builds all their electronic stuff, which makes me think that wow, what else might these guys come up with? I wish we had some of this stuff out on the coast!
I asked the manager why they didn’t have a speedball field, and without actually saying it the message was pretty clear that a speedball field might attract too many paintball players intent on lighting up their rec players. I hear this all the time from relatively new players to the sport who think that going full auto on some unsuspecting newbie is some kind of accomplishment. Guess what guys, when you do this at a commercial field you are chasing away their business. Small wonder they don’t want you back!
I also checked out their prices (which seemed to be another common bone) and was again surprised that they did not seem to be out of line with other fields in the area, in fact some of their prices were a lot cheaper than the others (based on their websites – $90 bucks for 2000 paint at safari as opposed to $140 elsewhere, how is that pricey?!!!) but I think the real issue here is that safari gears their prices to give rec players the best rates – not paintballers, which is a shame (although their membership rates sounded pretty decent, but like I said, maybe I missed something).
I have played fields all over BC and Alberta, as well as a few in the states, and safari has some really unique ideas which I think are really great for the sport. Anyway I think the message here is that if local paintballers want to take advantage of the golden goose in their own backyard they should cut Safari ridge some slack and quit trying to turn it into a clone of every other field out there. I rate this field 10 out of 10, partly because it is so different, and also because I think some of the other comments I have read seem pretty biased.

There is one thing I can say about this field, it sucks a lot. The price is rediculous and the field is like a playpen the size of an average livingroom.
The price for paint is pretty good comparedc to other places I have been but they charge you for everything you use.
Entrance: 19.95 $
Paint: 50 for about 2.30$ 500 for about 35$ and 89.99$ for 2000
After this they charge you 7 $ for CO2 and Nitrous fills and not to mention they dont have compressed air. 5 Dollars for Barrel condom which you get 3 $ back after you return it.
The field also sucks, it is too tiny to play the various great games that are out there and the field looks like it just came out of a kit, and I had noticed that there was a sign that said "if you want a to make a field of your own just like ours, go to this site..." this was just retarded.
For all you fellow paintballers I would suggest you skip this paintball field for it is the worst place you could play, but ofcourse that is just my opinion. |

I have actually been to this field 3 times but i could only choose less than a month.
Safari ridge isn't as bad as people are saying it is. I enjoy coming from vernon to play on this field because i find it pretty damn fun(especially when you have your own gun :P)!! The theme of this course is basically a city that is holding a war. And you basically have to capture all zones on the field. This course is quite small but for all you snipers out there, This course has balcony's. The last time i was on this course(September) Snipers had me pinned in a building shortly over the halfway line(Luckily this building had a window for me to crawl through :D). What i'm saying from this is if you are a sniper, your team could sure use you on the field. It's an awsome field for any skill you have. All the capture zones have to be activated by a wristband they supply you with. Now here is the main problem with the field....PRICE RATES!!!!! i think 34 bucks for 500 paintballs is a little pricey, but hey either than the prices this field is great. Since Bushwacker is closed until April, i'm gonna chill at this course over spring break. It'll be a good warm up for the beginning of the season.
I'm giving this course a 9 because it's fun, a little pricey, but fun.| Last edited on Tuesday, February 1st, 2005 at 8:42 pm PST |

I have been paintballing for some years now. When I came to Kelowna to vist some relatives I thought it might be fun to take them paintballing. *Sarcastic* And with my vast exsperience of knowlege, i was going to make them have a good time. This was not the case. Everything there was over priced and over rated. What even got me more angry was when they charged me $5 dollars to rent a barrel condon. Like that was pushing it to far. But if your like me and like to waste newbies, dont go here. There is way to much cover for them to hide. |

Hey! it's Mr. Speedballer here again!
There is a speedball team in Kelowna but because of Safari Ridge's unuseable feild for practice we had to set up one on crown land in Ellison. This feild is way to expensive for what you get. They are tking advantage of their location and that only the speedballers will go to penticton to play. When I went there this past may (2004) My friend had to tell the airsmith how to fix the guns at the field. And the proshop is pure PMI so it's useless to shop there unless you want a downgrade or are a newbie. And reacently they stopped alowwing barrel plugs, now you need a barrel condom! I'd like to see anyone shoot out my barrel plug :-\ And they have no Refs just the guy in the tower.
Now for some good.
-good for 1 on 1
-you can mess around with the air tech if you have an upper lever marker
-Great newbie feild
-Proud to say it's a good rec field
I'll admit I've taken players to safari to get them ready for tounament play (Learn to react quickly due to the small field)
IMO not a good feild but for woods ballers it's paradise |

It's the only one in the area as far as I know. I live in the Lower Mainland so I play at the local fields there. |
 |
| Review: |
Before I start, I'd like to say that about five years ago, this was the field I played on the FIRST time I had ever played paintball. But the sentimentalism will not affect my review. I promise!
This goes in the order of my day there.
The staff are very friendly and eager to help out with whatever it is you need. They seemed to be managing the field like clockwork which was good to see.
The cost is quite high. I understand that money must be made to keep the field in action and that there might not be as many players in the Okanagan as there are in the Lower Mainland, but the prices made me do a double take on everything. The all day admission is $15 plus tax, which is okay, but that does not include co2 or air fills. A fill on a 20oz tank is just under $10 and I don't know what it is for HPA. The rental package for $5 includes everything needed to play and unlimited co2 for the day, but this REALLY puts out those with their own equipment.
The paint was prices at around 8 cents a ball plus tax. I caught a glimpse of the brand: Stinger http://www.pbreview.com/products/reviews/854/ (Don't ask me where or why they buy it) ... I had no problem with them and no breaks but I would have liked to see a more tried and true brand for the money.
The pro shop, wasn't. It had some nice stuff in there, but you may as well call it a PMI shop. Everything I could see for sale was made by PMI. In fact, all of the rental equipment looked to be PMI as well.
Now to the field. They give you a bracelet of some sort that stretches along to your finger so right on the face of your hand is a button-shaped thing. It's a sensor that you swipe over one of 11 stations to collect points. The field is like this
..........*......*......*.....*..........
*...................*....................*
#.......*......*......*......*........#
where *'s are stations to collect points and #'s are the respawn points. (periods are spacers)
This field was MUCH too small for my taste. Just to give you an idea of the size, the stations (the *'s) are about 10-15 feet apart going the width of the diagram!!
It's also cluttered with bunkers even more than it was 5 years ago and with the game styles, the field reminded me more of one of those laser tag arenas, only outdoors.
When I started to play, I had a few games with a total of 6 people, then 4 of them left. This is on a Saturday mind you, which I am accustomed to a full field of drop-ins. So after the best 1-on-1 game I have ever played thanks to the compact size of the field, I waited more than an hour for a booked group to come in convinced that things would get busy. It turns out they were 10 year old kids celebrating a birthday. I played one game and obliterated them so I stepped out for the next two they were going to play so they could enjoy themselves. Then the last group I saw came in and I played a fierce game with them.
That's all I got a chance to play over a time of 4-5 hours. And I paid HOW MUCH?!
In conclusion, it's quite a pricey field to play at for the size of it and the lack of players. Looking back I honestly wasn't satisfied but I hope that my experience there will save others money. It probably would be a nice place for someone to come in and try paintball for the first time or with kids, but when compared to the other fields I've been to (Lower Mainland), it just doesn't cut it. It's definately not speedball, but it sure can't be called bushball. More like outdoor laser tag with paintball guns.
I give the field points in the rating for the staff that they had all afternoon on the exact day that I write this (VERY friendly and helpful), and for the more than enjoyable 1-on-1 game I had with my little bro (his first paintball experience). However the whole style that they play there is so dull and with the field size, prices, pro (pmi) shop and the lack of players that they have, on a saturday of all days, really makes the field something to avoid if at all possible.
The prices I listed are off by a few cents because of the .99 and .95 but they do not inculde tax at all. They were the current prices at the time I wrote this.
______________NOTE TO EQUIPMENT OWNERS______________
If you have to fill your co2 tank just once at this place (and they WILL charge you for it), you'll be paying more on your total bill than if you rented their "deluexe rental package" which includes free co2 on the rented tank all day!!! How INSANE is that?!

The good:
-Shaun the ref. Hes cool.
-Relatively clean playing field.
-Fast service.
-Courteous staff.
-Good game observation place (elevated above field).
-Good for newbies.
-Fun shooting range.
The bad:
-Too small.
-Annoying electronic scoring system.
-Owner of business isn't an avid player of paintball. She doesn't even own a gun. She pretty much didn't know anything about paintball and she wouldn't let me see one of the guns that were for sale.
-Junk rental guns.
-Communist hoppers (need a crescent wrench to get it open it was put on too tight)
-Bad and Expensive paint.
-The size ment that people were shooting at close range.
-Too crowded with bunkers.
-Garbage wasn't always in the garbage can. |

This being my home field, i go here fairly often. The staff here is great, unless you're one of the idiots who trys to annoy them for fun. either that, or you're jumping on the band wagon with people who say that just because they wanna draw attention from their own faults. they might have never even been there. So. Where was i? oh, yes. the staff. they're really nice, they'll great advice for u, and if you ever need help, they'll be more than willing to.
If there is a main problem about Safari ridge, it would be the cost. Being the only field between Penticton and Vernon gives it a lot of traffic (as well as it being right on the highway). Anyways, it costs something like 36 bucks for five hundred paintballs, and you're only allowed to use theirs, which is kinda annoying, since i can 800 for less than that anywhere else.
Also, the field is small, very small. But that makes it very fun, unless u ask someone else. it doesn't matter really, theres plenty of places to get good shots in, even with the twenty foot surrender rule (u have to be twenty feet away from someone to shoot them, if you're within twenty feet of someone, u have to surrender them, if they dont surrender, then u can shoot them.
The Field has a great electronic scoring system, which makes it more than just shooting people. I give it a 9, because its too expensive and could be a bit bigger.
