Review: Area 51 is huge, as far as other arenas in Cape Town go.
The field is just short of 1 Km long, and up to 500 Meters wide.
The terrain has everything from sandy paths to dense bush, small rocky hills, to dry grassland.
The hours of operation are entirely up to the people who wish to organise the field. If an early game is requested, the owner will set it up.If a night game is on the cards, then so be it!
Sundays are mostly for own marker players, and the games take a new perspective.... no marshals, no limits, and not tolerance for cheating.
The Sunday games start at about 09H30, and can go well into the late afternoon, depending on the fitness of the players.
The guys almost always behave themselves in fear of being banned from the field, so rules are rarely broken.
Rules are simple, as per most paintball games, but are subject to change, as requested by the players. Sometimes a re-spawn is allowed, other times it is total elimination.
The prices are on par with other fields in the area, as far as playing fees are concerned. The price of paint is much cheaper though, and the owner sell his paint at shop prices, if a bag of 500 or more is purchased. This keeps the guys coming back, as no other ranges are as accommodating.

Food is available, as well as drinks.
Equipment is also available to buy, should you wish to do so, but given the nature of the area, cash only for now!

Toilet facilities are lacking, as this is a bush... go before you come, or prepare to dig.

The overall impression is that this field has most of the requirements to make it well worth a frequent visit. The vibe is awesome, and everyone gets on well.
Players will usually help the staff set up etc.

If you are in the area..... drop by and take a look... well worth it!

Edit: July 2009:
Area 51 Paintball and Action Pursuit Paintball have since joined forces, and are operating out of Area 51's massive field.
The good news of this is that the field is far more accommodating to rental players, as they have the ability to host well over 100 players now.
Even better news is that the facilities are that much better too.
There is seating in the rest area/safe zone, more food and drinks available, and the owner didn't crank up the prices either!
Nice One!
There is better parking facilities for the players (The walk to the field is much shorter now).
Corporate events are available on weekdays now, and full games on Saturday and Sunday are openly available.
Sundays games often see the field being divided, to accommodate rentals and Own Marker players, but my last visit there a month ago, saw rentals mixing it up with the O.M.P's.

This field is still one of the best out there, and the owner knows how to make games interesting and fun.
