I went there expecting to play airball only to find out walkons arn't allowed to use the field so the entire day was spent in the woods. So as far as the day of play goes it was a great place to go if you intend on playing scenarios but they either need to get more airball fields or post on their website that the airball field is for their teams use only.| Last edited on Friday, November 9th, 2007 at 9:54 am PST |

Skyline is a very well established location. Their proshop is a decent size, and has a great variety of equipment, paint, and other needs or wants to choose from. The staging area is of decent size but if a lot of players show up, you find a lot of poeple working out the back of their trucks or cars.
This is a very relaxed environment. The refs are cool to hang out with, and the staff is very friendly and accomodating. Safety is a concern here, but they are not strickly enforced rules which allow you to relax. If a player doesn't follow safety rules most of the time another player will remind them.
Theirs feilds are pretty good. Here is their list:
Town: This is designed as a centerflag field. It is a collection of buildings put together to create a small villiage full of angles, hiding places, and open lanes. Rather nice field for like 10 on 10. When there are too many people on the field it gets rediculous crouded.
Castle: This is an attack\defend field. It has a castle on a little knoll that is 2 levels, rather well made, has plenty of open spots to be picked off though. The field around it is woodsy, with a few open spots. There are plenty of avenues to travel to take the castle.
Ewok: This is an attack\defend field. This field has a fort that is very open to attackers. As far as attack angles this field has just about you could want. It isn't as dense woodland wise so it makes approaches a little more difficult.
Helicopter: This is an attack\defend - eliminiation field. This field is named after a tiny helicopter by the defending start point. This woods field runs across multiple terrain levels and includes plenty of bunkers, trenches, hills, and roads. The defenders are not confined to one spot so you really have to watch your flanks if your defending or attacking.
Rocket: This is a centerflag field. This field is relatively flat, consists of many bunkers, and a rocket in the center of the field. Some of the bunkers provide interesting covers, some are raised exposing feet, others are very short, other provide you very good firing lanes however leaves you very exposed.
Speedball: They have a turfed speedball field however I have not played on it. I've only been on saturdays and I think they only do walk on speedball on sundays.
Conclusion: This is a fun environment to play in. The staff is friendly, and helpful. The are pretty well designed, and the staging areas and proshops are clean. Try this place out, it'll be a good day gauranteed. |

Pevs@AG, Hogback Mtn, Warplay, OA and several other fields in PA and MD. Skyline offers a nice variety of thematic rec fields encompassing several different niches. It's a nice set of concepts with a unique playing environment. |

The field is conveniently located just off I-81 and I-66. The directions from their website are perfect and will get you there fine. |

Some guys that I play with regularly on the weekends decided we'd take the trip across the state and hit up Skyline over the long Labor Day weekend. Several of us in the group had played at the field previously, however I hadn't been there in nearly 5 years. While some of the fields had obviously changed, they have also been proactive in maintaining and upgrading their field infrastructure.
The staff inside their proshop were incredibly friendly and courteous. You couldn't have asked for a more diligent and responsive group of personnel, from the folks working behind the counter to the employees filling air. This is always an excellent start to any day. The field was consistent about enforcing a 280fps chrono and did thorough checks. I was a bit dismayed to see several players shooting markers in the chrono area without masks on (and prior to the refs arrival).
The refs did a quick safety briefing and divided up teams. Throughout the day I noticed several instances of players forgetting to put in barrel covers or plugs and the refs were very patient and responsive in addressing this issue. That being said, at no time was there a real safety issue involved. The refs and staff did an excellent job of keeping the games safe.
Their fields added some nice diversity to their unique terrain. The "town" field was interesting to play and had a nice variety of blind spots, shooting lanes, and two story structures. The games play fast, but not so much that you're overwhelmed with the action. The helicopter field also played particularly well, with trenches, bunkers, obstacles and natural features to keep the games interesting. None of their fields were repetitive or mundane and all had a unique theme. Some of the fields had changed since I remember them in 2002 and largely for the better.
The refs kept games moving and allowed just enough time between matches to refill on paint and air. Towards the end of the day the staff realigned teams to offset some of the disparity that had occurred. This evened out the talent levels and I'm sure was much appreciated by the previously overwhelmed team.
One of the nicest aspects of the field was the diverse player base. Everyone was extremely friendly and welcoming. Also noticable was the absence of any trace of wiping. There was a great deal of sportsmanship and camaraderie during and after games. Good play (and bad play) was rewarded with playful comments and pats on the back. The players were some of the finest I've played with in a while and would have made the trip worthwhile in and of themselves.
Skyline also sports a state of the art tournament field with turf, X-Ball bunkers and full field netting. It's clearly one of the premier fields in VA.
Field pricing is incredibly competitive. $10 admission with another $10 for All Day air is certainly a bargain anywhere. If you buy paint from the field (reasonably priced at that) the admission fee is waived. Couple that with the friendly folks working behind the counter and you have a nice playing environment.
The only negatives I can think of were the fact that some of the players were less than diligent about keeping their barrel covers on (and that was dealt with quickly by staff and players alike) and that some refs weren't particularly loud or vocal (which was offset by the fact that several of them were loud and did most of the communicating).
And excellent field and playing experience and a good reminder of why the drive across I-66 to Skyline is a nice trip and playing experience.| Last edited on Sunday, September 2nd, 2007 at 4:52 pm PST |

Overall this field was great. My team had been planning to go there for weeks. We got there early and found out that there was a speedball tourney that day. We were worried that there wouldn't be many walk-ons but there were enough. Once we got the fees paid and our gear ready more people started to arrive. We were called to the staging area and then we followed the refs to the field we'd be playing at. I liked this setup because it made everything easy, we'd play a 15 minute match then switch sides and do it again. The refs were great and we were surprised that nobody had any problems with them. They were fair, so I made sure my team thanked them all at the end of the day.
The only complaints I have about Skyline are that some of the fields are a bit trashy. A little maintenance could go a long way. The boundaries weren't marked off too well either. It was a shame that a lot of the speedballers gave us dirty looks like they were better than all of us walk-on players. I'm glad that the refs were really pushy about safety. There were some younger kids in a birthday group that were swinging their guns around (first timers) and the refs got on them. The ladies in the shop were very nice and helpful, too. It would be nice if they oriented it more to the woodsball and walk-ons there was nothing for us in the shop. Either way I had a great time, and whoever came up with ideas for the fields did a great job. I really liked Rocket and Helicopter the most. We'll be back soon and probably to the scenarios they have.

Okay to start out, Skyline Paintball is an amazing field/proshop to say at the least. The refs are friendly and very helpful. They make sure that you do not have to wait along time before you can go on the field and play. There is always a ref inside the chrono station so you never have to walk around the whole place to find someone to chrono you. There are also a lot of refs with walk- on and privite groups, which is great because they all make sure that there are no players playing on after being hit and making sure that the games flow smoothly.
The staff inside the proshop are awesome too!!!! The shop has everything you need and want. They have a wide selection of high quility paintballs and markers. The staff is great!!! They are very helpful and friendly. Skyline also has certifited gun techs that will help you in anyway they can. And if you buy your gun from Skyline they will fix any problem you may encounter with further down the road for FREE!!!!!!
Skyline has also just putting a brand new TURF speedball field!!!! This field is great, the turf has a professinal feel to it that is unmatched. There is a tournement held on it a almost every week.
Skyline has awesome and diverse walk- on fields too. Each field is different. Every field at skyline has it's own theme.
I have been to skyline almost every weekend now for quite a while so trust me, this is the only feild you will ever need.

I was fortunate enough to be able to attend the Blackcat scenario game, "G.I. Joe Vs Cobra" this past weekend at Skyline. It was my first scenario game, and my first trip to Skyline. I'd heard lots of good things about it so i was excited to see what they had to offer. As a beginner i'll tell you about my experience here.
Safety: At the initial "briefing" about the rules and what not they were very strict about googles and gun plugs. Refs reminded you when you left the playing area, or went on about what you needed. At no point was anyone rude about it, but they'd definately step into your way to tell you to cover your barrel if you were heading into the staging area. A+ job on that. Chrono's are in a batting cage area and are covered with netting, very safe. I wonder about the accuracy of some of the chrono's though since i made a ton of adjustments but they didn't register much change. maybe that's just my gun.
Fields: This field was by far the best and most advanced field i've ever seen; a true paintballer's dream. They have about 7 different fields of play, which were all combined together for the scenario. The town field is incredible with a ton of small buildings for you to play around and in. The rocket field has many obstacles as well as slopes on each side for sniping. By far the best field is the castle. Assaulting and defending it are so much fun. Trenches all around the castle give the attackers some chance, but if you can get a large group to play on that it's a lot of fun.
Hours: Although i played a 24 hour scenario, i saw that the rate is 10 bucks from 10-5, how can you beat that?
Prices: I can't speak for their normal rates because i didn't pay them. I payed my scenario entry fee and then the paint/air fee.
Service: Sue and Chris are both VERY nice people and i got a chance to talk to them ever so briefly. They obviously care about the players and everyone's enjoyment. And they've been doing it long enough to know how to do that.
Facilities: The main building where you get your paint, air, and other supplies is pretty basic. But it works just fine. Only saw 1 portopotty outside, but i never used it. Otherwise everything seems fine. Just a VERY long dusty dirt road to get to the actual fields.
In conclusion, i got to play at skyline all weekend with about 300 people. I had an absolute blast on these fields with their many variations and obstacles. I can hardly imagine a much better field for playing, they have certainly put the effort into this field and it shows. Just watch your footing because some of the terrain can be pretty brutal. Some of those hills i would NOT want to fall over, lol.
A+ field! |

Different array of field and each field has a theme.
Favorite at the top and least at the bottom (my prefence)
Town - Bunch of building and the object of the game is to get the flag and hang it on the opponet side
Jungle - always watch your back becuase this field has a lot of places to hide and it a massacre
Rocket - there is a big rocket in the middle and a big hill on the side,
Helicopter - field with trenches and hills elimantion
Castle - attack and defend style, attacking was a pain as you need to climb the hill and storm on the castle while people inside are raining paintball down on you, go inside and touch the flag and you win, This course need skills and luck
The Staff were helpful and hours were great. from 10-5 and only 10 dollar to play.
Prices were cheap and all day air for 10 dollar and nitrogen rental 10 dollar!!!
Playes were friendly and came from everywhere to play,

Skyline was very fun for our team (Mischief Kidz). The refs were great didn't have a problem with them once. The fields were great i like the new terf. The prices for the tournament was one of the cheapest. The rules were very fair. The netting was set-up easy to get in and out of the field. |
