Ok so I've only been out to this field once but first impressions are everything right?
Well the field opened at 10, though I didn't show up myself untill almost 11. Never the less I was registered and in a game without waiting to long.
Ok so before I get into the actual field and how that went I will give you my impression just to the point of arriving and paying. First ... the field had no real parking so you had to park on the side of the road. Not a big deal but with a big enough group you could be in for a long walk. When I went to pay I was surprised to see that their prices did not already have taxes included in them. Again not a big deal, it was just not what I was used to and I was a little surprised.
Entry fee was reasonable, only $11, although you also had to buy an air pass ($7.00 for co2 I believe) which again ... seems off but all in all doesn't add up to more than the entry fee for most fields, I guess most places simply don't bother to add co2 as a seperate cost. Even though the field was a fair bit away from civilization they did have interac, and took credit cards .. which is a major plus for them in my book.
So i got my paint and found a table. By noon there were about 40 people there and JUST enough room for everyone to have some table/sitting space without hitting elbows or crossing barrels.
I should mention the paint ... now I have to stress that this was my first time at this field so I cannot say that this is normal BUT the paint was in bad shape. I don't remember which brand it was but I hadn't heard of it before, which is fine except that the paint was horribly dented. There was a few cases of another brand that had been handed out earlier that was even worse and those cases were replaced with the slightly better stuff without charge.
The actual field was a fair size with some varying styles of bunkers and larger 'forts'. I found that standard bunkers were spread a little farther than I was used to but it wasn't to bad. The field was very natural, without the "clear cut" feel of some fields. Lots of underbrush and rises and dips and such.
For whatever reason their speedball field wasn't set up but they did have a "house/building" style speedball field which was AWSOME. Its hard to say why but it was a very enjoyable field. To my dissapointment we only played three rounds on this field. Probably largely due to the fact that it was far in the back of the field and since the majority of the players had were rentals (and hence no pod packs) most people were out of paint by the third round.
The types of games we played were nicely varied, including straight elimination, capture the flag, centre flag, rescue, and a couple variations of defend the castle. The rescue game was played on the "house" speedball field and consisted of team hold a dummy "captive" while the opposing team tried tie rescue it. The games were short however, lasting only about 10 minutes each. I suppose shorter games are more popular today but I am used to games lasting atleast twice that long personally and I do enjoy longer games. I found that many of the games ended before an entire team was eliminated or an objective was completed.
Now this was only a regular walk on day and I have found at many fields that on days like this you should not expect the refs to be TO proffesional. You shouldn't expect them to run and dive and chase players to do paintchecks. One this field however, the refs worked just as hard as any refs during a tournament. Paint checks were quickly done without being asked for, and when you did yell for a paint check the refs were equally as quick. With four refs on the field at all times the rules were very tightly enforced without anyone being "torn apart" for making a mistake. That is really what made this day really good.
All in all this was a really enjoyable field to play on, and I would love to become a regular on this field. |

At first when i was driving there all i had seen was a big bush and i thought oh boy this is our new home :( but after i walked the field i realized that there is much more than what meets the eye...they have the best village in the area, and the field is quite a bit larger than diehard which is the nearest competitor...we are now part of the field team (E-Dawgz) and i am there helping out every weekend with reffing, setting up bunkers, and helping players with some problems they might have...airball is up all the time and it rocks because diehard does not put up their field unless it is very dry weather where as paintball wilderness is always dry where the airball field is set up so thats why it is always up...good job paintball wilderness on a rockin field |

I have to give this field an honest 8 for effort. Its pretty decent as far as fields go. Very large forest area (can get muddy in wet weather). Large 'village' area and varied scenarios.
A little too much wiping going on (refs should watch this a bit more).
However, the quality of paint used is lacking. They used to use zap (which isn't the best brand to start with) and now they've switched to XO. I've used XO at other fields and its on par with Zap (poor quality). The paint they've sold me has been terrible. Flat spots, very oval etc.
The costs are a little higher than their competition as well.
If the quality of the paint was better, the refs watched for the wipes and the costs were brought more in line with their competitors, then they'd get a definite 10 in my books. |

I have played at diehard, the two fields are compareable but I have to say that paintball wilderness kicks its ass in some areas, like the speed ball arena, and there Castle :) |

Paintball Wilderness Rocks, theres nothing else to it.
There forest games are incredible, because depending on the game the that your playing the forest is never the same, the angels are diffrent and there is never a strong point in one game thats in another.
There Arena paintball; Speedball, was also very impresive.
Their " Village" Oh My God :D Its is a BLAST!!!
The only thing that i can compare it to is Iraq like you see it on tv, the urban combat, quick and tough! |

I have only just started playing paintball and I was a bit scared at first. The staff and players I have met at PBW are all really encouraging. After the first couple games of the day I found my fear was replaced with excitement. The refs would tell me when it was ok to run to a bunker, and gave me advice on how to shoot, and stand so that I'm not a bigger target. My teammates would work together with me providing cover so I could run, and I would do the same for them. I felt that after a few games that all these people I didn't know had become my friends and teammates while we were there.
The staff at PBW were well organized in getting the players on and off of the field. It never took very long for one game to end and the next to begin, even with the large number of players that showed up for opening weekend, we didn't have to wait long for all the registration to finish before we got to start playing.
The only thing I had a problem with was the rental guns. Maybe it was just mine, or something I was doing wrong, but my gun always failed me when I needed it to work the most. The time that especially sticks out in my mind was when I was bunkered by two players from the other team in the complex, I knew I was done for, but I was determined to take someone with me. I started firing on them, but no balls were dropping down the hopper. I got pretty frustrated having to stop sometimes to smack the hopper around to get the balls to drop into the breach.
In all I had an awesome time and I will be going back to PBW as often as I can.
Thanks! |

was a descent field, i was impressed with the rec ball field and the castle was quite nice. the sup air was a tad small but still a good field, nothing bad at all bout this field, maybe the counters could be a tad more convienient but what the hell. the bunkers could have been filled with mud if it rained the previous day, the sup air field might not have been up for the same reason, dont hold it against them, the only tip i would give would to get a compressor to do 4500 fills. nothing else really, nice staff and good field |

When i went to Paintball Wilderness it sucked, maybe it was just a bad day, but the bunkers where flooded with mud inside, they made you buy there balls and couldn't bring in your own (i know this is now common at alot of places) and the zap speed ball arena was down.
Me and my friends where very disapointed, we will probably never go back.
It might of just been a bad day, but i am baseing my rating off of the day i played.| Last edited on Thursday, March 18th, 2004 at 3:30 pm PST |

The field is great. It has a HUGE forest area, with huge castles. It also has 2 big villiages seperated by a creek. Some buildings even have 2 stories. And to top it all off it has a full 5 man ZAP SUP AIR field, which is set-up EVERY day the field is open...even for the rec-days.
The have Certified Staff which hold almsot every PTI designation possible, and they just happen to be some of the nicest guys you will ever meet.
In Conclusion,
BEST FIELD IV EVER PLAYED

Diehard Paintball gained alot of experience there. Haven't been lately but the burgers are better at PBW, the staging area is nicer and the village is huge compared to DH. |

Paintball Wilderness (PBW) bought the old Got-ya field, cleaned it up considerably (a much needed clean might i add), built new bunkers, restored old ones and built up an awesome speedball area. The village is second to none compared to any field in Southern Ontario. The staging area is nice and clehas a nice woody feel to it, very comfortable area to hang in. The speedball area is nicely built up to keep water out of it, and the speeball field is up at every open day. The village is huge with large and medium sized buildings, with corners and small dividers makes a walk hrough of these houses during a game pretty exciting. The village is huge and is divided down the middle by a ditch, one half can be played for small bookings, large bookings can play both sides making for fun water crossings. The rest of the field, has bunkers on it and a newly built castle, this field is wide, woodsy and amazing to play on. This field got me addicted to the sport and I'm happy to be able to return to it to rejuvenate my love for the sport. I have to give this field a 10 because they seem to be constantly doing stuff with/to the field to improve it, making it better and changing what doesn't work. A field that caters to every type of player out there. |
