I've played at fields throughout the tri-state. I've played in Nashville all the way to Canton, Ohio. There aren't many to fields in the southern West Virginia are, which is unfortunate.
Review: I've played at "grand" Scary Creek a few times (for reasons to be enclosed). The field is in your typical red neck hollar (no offense), but pretty easy to find. In the area the field is located, it is based for the more woodsball crowd. There are a couple fields, an Urban field, and an "in-progress" speedball field (kind of a joke). The Urban field, is a pretty good time. There is a building, a couple trailers, a bus, and many good obstacles that will tickle your fancy. The speedball field is 2x4's with sheets wrapped around them for doritos, unless they've made some changes since my last visit, which has been awhile.

Everyone knows that paintball is an expensive sport. Scary Creek makes paintball a rediculously expensive sport. It kind of makes me sick to be honest. The paint is decent quality, but more expensive than some of the highest quality paint there is out there. I bought some Empire paint that was freaking $75 bucks a case. They fill your co2 by the fill, which is a rip off, sense it is a very cheap gas and I understand making a profit, but they've been in business for some time. They also fill HP tanks, but only to 3000, which is still HP, but with the prices they have, they should get a booster or sell their compressor and get a 4500 one.

Some plus sides. The people that run the field are nice, especially the lady. It is also family run, which is nice to see. They are tight on rules and safety which is great, because it keeps people safe.

I love the sport, but to be honest I would love to see some competition in the southern West Virginia area. The sport is growing and this place has a monopoly on it in the area right now. Their prices are too high, and it could be upgraded with the loyal players they have. I know some guys that love it, but I know a lot more that don't. You pick which side you're on.

To be honest. If there was a good venue that put some competitoin on Scary Creek I believe it would be gone in a hurry.

Review: Scary Creek Paintball is great! They have 3 fields. A woodsball that is huge, and 2 speedball fields. The people are very nice to. Their woodsball field is by far the best field they have. They have about 3 houses, sniper tower, big hill, creek, buses, and a maze. They also have some great games. This field is good for new and older paintball players. They have a little store inside and very good prices on everything.

Review: The first time i went there i was amazed. I had tons of fun and i still do. I always take about 60 bucks so i can buy a drink and always have a little more money than needed. Its kind of expensive but its a great field for people who don't have a gun or are just starting at the game. I love playing in the tournaments they have on Sundays. You can win money just for playing a game that you love. The best type of gun to use there is probably a tippmann so you can snipe people which is fun. Fast guns are also fun if you are a runner and like to capture the flag or capture the tower. I really like the people that play their and work their because they are very nice people. The best time I think to is on Saturdays around noon because their are a lot of people coming around that time. If u don't like a lot of people then come around 10:30 in the morning. What I like are the scenarios which happen once a month. They will have it posted on their sight under scenarios. Over all, this place is a great place to paintball and I really like it.

Review: Now the first time I went to Scary Creek, I only brought $30. I thought well ok this should get me in and about 1500 paintballs or maybe only 1000 at the least. Well i wound up only being able to get a bag of paint becase of the prices. Now before you think im about to trash scary creek, Im not, because thats where there money comes from, but still, that is freakin expensive. Anyway, i have played on the urban field and I loved it from the first time i played on it. Its a good field for everything from Maze and House assault to Snipers and CTF. The speedball course on the other hand is a somewhat mediocre attempt to recreate some of the better fields in country, but once again, Im not saying that its a bad place. Scary creek is a family friendly place for a sport that all ages can play and I give it a 9 outta 10.

Review: I have been going to Scary Creek ever since I was 10. Its not the best field but its good for all around play on the weekends. For starters the prices aren't that bad remeber they have to keep teh place running and pay the workers. The fields are decent the urban field is great in the summer when there is no mud, and the speedball field could use some work b/c its not really big enough for more than 3 v 3 max. Overall they are very safe and i can understand checking the bags and stuff. If someone stole ur gun while u were there they would get their stuff checked before they leave. And as for The time it takes to get in, it only takes 10 minutes if u know what you are doing. Just go early like 10am before every one gets there so u can play some warmups.

Overall-This is a great field for rec ball the staff is nice and they help u as much as they can and the prices are okay.

Review: I started playing at Scary Creek about 13 years ago and they have always been extremely helpful. I joined the Air Force about 4 1/2 years ago and hadnt been to the field since then, until earlier this month and I have to say that I was very impressed at how much it had changed. As always, the staff was extremely friendly and the prices were very compairable to the fields that I have played at all across the country. In response to everyones complaints about the time it takes to get in and the thorough searches of your personnel bags, I would have to tell you that it is a side effect of todays society. I mean now in days people are always looking for ways to sue someone or cheat (smuggle stuff in). As for the price of paint you have to realize that that is how paintball fields make their money. You might say what about the entry fees and rental cost but you dont think about the insurance, utilities and other aspects of keeping a field open such as that. In conclusion, I've always compaired the staff and field at scary creek to the different fields all across the country and have yet to find a better combination, period.

Gaul Citys located in southeast Ohio.

Review: WEAKNESSES
When you first walk into the door your stuff is checked for any balls or anything else not allowed there. This is for the players own good I suspect, but It was like going to an airport (previously stated in a review) And you are on the honor system with only one ref, who is helpful and knowledgeable, but its only one for a big urban field. Paint Prices are EXTREMELY High $20 dollars for 500 all-stars.

Strengths
Their Urban Field is very large and very fun with a variety of games you can play. Like attack and Defend Capture the flag. They have barns and houses bunkers and trailers for you to hide in and sweep out. And their other field is like speed ball + air ball it is a medium sized field where you HAVE to be crouched down and it is not very fun. There is always a lot of people there to play with. 20 when I was last there

*EDIT* The owner is not very concerned with the experience that you get on/off the field. That will definately be my LAST visit to scary creek. Downgrade.

Review: ok lets get something CLEAR i do not understand how everyone is upset with the field in scary creek. yes the prices are high but understand that it is run by a family and that is how they make their living and the last time i went the prices were a whole much better.

and another thing they are some of THE NICEST PEOPLE i have EVER met. in fact when i was starting off i didn't know any thing and no matter how dumb a question was they would always explain it to me.

one time i called the field when i had a problem with my marker that i bought some where else and they talked to me for A HALF HOUR helping me fix my marker and they didn't know who i was i just called them, and they helped me.

another thing the speed ball field is small, but its not really meant to be a sb field its woods ball and scenario. and as a matter of fact they are improving dramatically their fields with air bunkers everywhere a bigger sb field and a few new fields and they laid down mulch so you don't have to worry about mud

Scary Creek is also just a laid back field. its a place where you can just have fun. and now they are holding tournaments so it combines the best of both worlds.

please keep an open mind if you go there and you will see that if you are nice to them it will be one of the best pb fields you can go to to just have fun with nice people who you can talk to

Review: Right off the bat I get a bad vibe when we walk through the door. First of all they take every bag you want to bring onto the field and check it for paint because you can only buy field paint which is way overpriced it is like 80 buck for a case of allstars. Also tourney payouts suck. 1st place only gets 25 percent of the tourney fees. Overall each player of the 3 man tourney winner was 50 bucks a piece. You you walk in it is tighter then airport security you can't go back out to your car once you have checked in lol.
