Ok, So i've been playing at Shot in the dark since it was RMA. I've seen the metamophisis it has under taken in the last couple of years. Yes Chris, the new owner, and allen are new to paintball but they are not stupid. Allen is very adept at narrowing down and fixing problems with low end and mid range markers. He simply has not had enough experience with the high end guns to fix them. That dosen't make him ignorant. They are constantly improving the fields on which the glorious game of paintball is being played in Grand Junction. They continually reinvest profits to upgrade their facility under tight scroutany from players such as can be found writing on this sight .
To update the reader from out of town who may be thinking of playing here currently they've moved to B 1/2 rd. and 29 1/2 rd. They are insured, have purchased all new rental masks., and are working feveriously at repairing ALL rentals. Currently they have started to remodel the pro shop area of the building with fresh paint and murials. Meanwhile they are compleytly reorganizing the fields into an almost regulation sized playing area(about 6 ft. too short. and 9 feet too wide), but hey thats close enough for me. In additon to the field improvements, they'll be adding a players only staging area, and a spectators lounge.
Infact the only complaint I have aside from them not having experience with the higer end makers and not being finished with the field improvements (which I am all too eager to try out) is that ,yes, they do infact smoke in the building.
So if you live in the grand junction area and want to play indoor or outdoor (yes the have a woodsball feild they run in the daytime) stop down to Shot in the Dark.
Just for the drama qeens among us I am not an affiliate of Shot in the dark; just a player who wanted to correct some previously published injustices.| Last edited on Monday, August 29th, 2005 at 7:56 am PST |

ok here i go the good and the bad sides of "Shot In The Dark'' Paintball
for all you skeezes who dun know who this be.. it is elephant boi
THE GOOD.....
-no little kids working there any more
-air ball field
-some kool people
-better location then before
THE BAD.....
-price is like close to 100 per person to play for a full night if you have a high end gun.
- the owner as dumb and doesent know how to work on any high end guns
-no one knows how to work on high end guns, they either (a) have to call someone from montrose (names remain unlisted but you know who you are) (b) call up one of the old time old skool guys called RIZ RODGE for short, or (c) tell you your (s.o.l)
- main filed ground is pee gravle, bassically play ground gravel
-small not regulation size
-really crappy paint say wal-martyish
-most at a time maybe 10 guns on the wall for sale
- they sopposobly have 6 months worth of stuff on back order, including my dye mask, wich i know that they dont even order it after i gave him cash for it, hes just lazy and like to make excuses so kris you know what im talking about
- it smells like body oder in there really bad because the owner lives upstairs in the place, and the place has no shower
- the supposable guard dog named ''Diablo" is pretty vicios for having small kids in there
-they smoke in there
- if you accidentally break a ball outside the range area they charge you $300 dollars for something that could be cleaned up with the paper towels
- all the cussing in there from the workers
-they dont work hardly ever except maybe alan and star do work while everyone else just lays around and watches satellite tv
- and they treat people like crap who have been going their for longer then they have even owned it, For example @@@@@ ME @@@@@
-and there is a crap load more but i wont go into detail about it, yall get the picture so if you want go down for your self to see what i am talking about gho ahead... post away Chris and allan and star tell them something they dont already know cause i let them all know, oh ya one more thing avalanche will be there but they aint gonna like it, they might act like it but they wont, so go ahead tell them all something they dont already know

Ive played here just once under new ownership. The field is dooing much better now. There is no more concern of lacerating( cutting) your body on the structures as air ball bunkers tend to not require nails and screws to hold them togeather. As far as my thoughts on all the 'drama' please see my comment in CGJ's review.
For the real review:
I like SITD a lot better than rma. The L shaped field that was employed by rma was horrible. Whoever controlled the inside corner had a decisive advantage. Granted that chris and his boys don't have a lot to work with, they are dooing great, and they have big plans. Im going to go back soon and check it out once my new guns shows up.
Bottom line:
SITD is much better than rma, you have aspects of speedball, w/o the drunken, abusive, pointblank, saftey hazard that was RMA.
Chris keep it up.
The field gets a 8 on physical aspect, but this drama is just pathetic. Talk about bad image. | Last edited on Monday, March 14th, 2005 at 1:19 pm PST |

i think this paintball range is well put together for a small colorado town its in. Their products they sell are expensive but good products. My only complaint is it needs to be alot bigger, liked the old range better instead of the tournament style one. Most paintball players are more into playing outside team and free for all games, not tournaments. Me and a few friends are trying to find people of any skill in paintball to play with on weekends. We play by paradise hills mostly and have ALOT of land in loma to play at. |

I am the owner of this shop and i know that this shop is very well ran. The kids that have been writing the previous messages were angry because i fired them because there attitudes were terrible and they were ripping me off. And as a business owner i am running the shop to the best of my ability i have a great new employee named alan and he is helping out alot. The shop is now a drugfree and alchol free area for kids to come and have fun where as terry was not.

I have only been playing paintball for a month it is fun.
Went to a tourny that shot in the Dark Paintball had on January 30th 2005
it was lot of fun watching and playing there .
one great part was seeing a 3 man team that was new to paintball taking out the kids that were playing for a while.
the new Team used Tippman 98 coustoms and kicked butt , there was a kid there with a real nice gun his Name was Willard and the funny part was the new kids with Tippmans beat them and it was cool to see.
ok For Shot in the Dark Paintball , I seen the place when Terry had it and that place was dirty and people were always getting drunk, But When Chirs bought it the place has cleaned up it's act no more drunks and a very fun place, Yes Chris and his Worker Alan don't know alot about Paintball but they are learning .
they are both very nice to people and it is a nice place to play.
yes the Field is a dirt floor but the Bunkers are clean and they are keeping the allaround look nice and very Helpfull.| Last edited on Sunday, February 13th, 2005 at 5:13 pm PST |

Okay, I have been going to this field since before it was shot in the dark. Back when it was "rma" I thought it could not get any worse. Matt and Roger were awsome. They new more about paintball then most professional's. But anyway, about shot in the dark. untill january 30 I had been working there since the day they switched owners. It was ok for the first little bit, but then it went straight down hill. The brand new sup air bunkers are almost completely dystroyed and they almost never fill them up. They barley clean the floore and ther are only about 10 or 15 rentals working. And all of the rental masks are so old and scratched, than you cant see a foot in front of you chris the "owner". Is a jerk who thinks he knows everything about paintball. He has only been playing for about 4 months and in those for months, he has only played in a hand full of games. His jackass employee, "alen" is a retard who likes to think he nows stuff about paintball. I wouldnt ever take your gun to be repaird there, because they like to take guns apart and put them back together again and again trying to fix it until it breaks. Then when the customer comes to get they tell them its not finshed or that a part was broken. But forget to mention that they were the ones who broke it. I am not trying to hurt this fields reputation, im just trying to inform people. They have no insureance and if somebody gets hurt, ther's nothing they can do. I hope they get ther act together, because if they dont, they will be closed down. I would have given them a 7, but now i am givng them a 2. If you still want to go to this field, be careful! |
