Review: I read through this site about various players' and their experiences about playing the New Mexico Cup; however, it seemed that most of these people had nothing better to do than to whine. But then again, what would you expect from these "players" who are much too used to having a day-care type of field rather than a hard-core paintball field? Obviously, PBA does not supply "nappie" blankets, pacifiers, and diaper changes----so these players definitely had a bad time!!!!

If they were going to devote any time to the game and practice, then maybe they would have done much better than they did during this particular tournament. But instead, they sat around on their fat-asses, eating CHEET-OS, while playing X-box and dreaming a fantasy on how they were going to win.....big NO NO!

Randal (the owner of PBA) is a kick-ass kind of guy who is fair to the game. If his referees caught them whiping, then obviously they paid the price. If they seen them shot, then they called them out. But never at one time did they ever humiliate anyone nor make any bad calls.

For those of you who are determined to play the New Mexico Cup, PBA is a field that you definitely want to practice for. It isn't going to be designed to be easy; so if you win then you obviously deserved it (it was not luck).

For those who had nothing good to say about PBA, its staff, Randal, or the New Mexico Cup, let me say----"SORRY THAT YOU MERELY SUCKED ASS! PRACTICE FOR NEXT YEAR INSTEAD OF WHINNG AND MAKING EXCUSES AS TO WHY YOUR TEAM LOST!"

Hinkle.... more "family and newbie" oriented... PBA is a lot better, in my opinion.
Directions
to the Field:
It's on Central Ave., between Moon and Eubank.... right next to Blake's Lottaburger.
Review: PBA's website is currently down (as of feb '06), so let me give you their prices and stuff:

Location is on Central Avenue in Albuquerque, between Eubank and Moon, on the south side of the street.

Hours (for playing paintball) are 12 noon to 6pm, saturdays and sundays.
the store is open.... i think tuesday through friday until 5.....?
***In the coming weeks/months, the hours will most likely change... i.e. you can play on friday nights and stuff.

Field Fee: $10
All-day Air: $5

Paint is FIELD PAINT ONLY.
500 = $18
1000 = $35
2000 = $60-ish (it varies)

***Pay the $15 (field fee + air), and any rental equipment you need is free***
Rental markers are Tippmann pro/carbines with either 45/30 or 68/30 tanks on them.
they rent out a mixture of lower-end masks, and also have red jumpsuits for people to play in, if they don't want their clothes getting dirty or whatever.

The air fills are usually only up to 3k psi. , and there is no user-friendly fill station for it.. you need a staff member to fill your tank for you.

The store is nice... it has a bit of everything.. from VL200's to halo's to Vlocity's... from Ions to Autocockers... whatever you want, they probably have it, or can order it for you. The prices are a bit high on some things, but are normal on other things, and on occasion... cheaper than anywhere else (JT 05 team pants for $69.95....yeah, beat that, stupid internet!)

People that work there:

Randall (bald, slightly overweight older guy) is the owner, and has a long history of paintball. He still plays pump, but only once in a blue moon. He's very knowledgeable, and won't hesitate to pass on his experiences and knowledge with you. He also won't beat around the bush with you... he'll say something in a stern voice, and not sugar-coat a lot of things... especially safety at his field. You start talking about a kid taking off his mask on the field, and you can literally see his eyes get big, and his total facial expression change from happy to dead serious.... but it's for your safety, folks, so appreciate his concern.

Benny (typical college kid) is the manager, and knows everything about everything concerning everything paintball. he'll ACE an old angel for you, he'll re-time your 'cocker, and he'll throw random insults and glaring looks at people standing in the store. (just kidding)

There's a few other people (Omar and Nicky) that work there, and are very knowledgeable, but I don't want to type forever.

The field:

(*NOTE* FPS limited to 275, and is Field Paint ONLY)

From the road, it kinda looks like a circus tent... and has wood chips on the ground. As long as you're wearing gloves and a good pair of pants, you'll be fine, but occasionally there's a little one that will try to stick into you, and give you slivers, which is very much not fun. Overall, though, it's not bad at all. I don't even notice the woodchips anymore.
The bunkers are a mixture of air bunkers and plastic ones.... I confess, some of the air bunkers do deflate by the end of the day, because of heavy use and such. Also, they need to be washed down of all the paint on them, but oh well.
The length of the field is pretty good.... you can shoot from one end to the other, but don't ever expect to hit anything or anyone with any accuracy at all.
Sometimes they split the field in half, to run two smaller fields... but usually it's one big one.

The staging area is nice... a bunch of picnic tables, with a few trash cans within easy reach. Nice and neat, no complaints there.

The reffing.... it really depends on who's working that day. I personally ref there sometimes, and I try to do my best. Some have more experience, some are new... some care about the game more than others. It's just the luck of the draw on how good the ref will be from one day to the next. Overall, though... it's pretty decent.

Every once in a while, they host tournaments, which usually have a good turnout. We had about 20 3-man teams at the last one.

Overall, it's a good time, and I do reccommend this field.

Review: This field and store is a good field. Randall knows about spyders some. Omar and Benny are really good techs and will tweak anything perfect they are the only ones i would trust with my gun. The prices are pretty good but can be high on somethings. Randall is a really nice guy and will watch out for your'e safety. There is a team they sponser called hitokiri and some of the players hang out there and ref they are good refs. The times that ive played there Nikki was reffing but i forgot when that was and i don't know if he still works there. This is a fun field to play on and you can learn well there. Friday nights is a good time to go because there are good players there and they will help you learn and teach you. The wood chips can hurt on slides and the bunkers aren't always fully filled. The paint is priced well and it is pretty good quality.

Review: Reviews definitely need an update. The field moved back into the city. Now limitied to 2 small airball fields. Field pain only. They do have CO2 and HP fills but no dedicated fill stations. Expect to wait for a fill while the staff checks people in, attend to the store, and whatnot. Decent staging areas.

Two small fields can be run simultaneously. I a ref coaching players they know and telling them where the other team was. Otherwise the staff if pretty courteous and we were well treated even though we weren't around there.

Not a very friendly crowd of ballers, though. I know that's not the fields fault but it is part of the experience.

Floor covered in Bark. Not to conducive to crawling and sliding.

Recap: this is not the field of earlier reviews. They have moved and it is much smaller. Staff is nice, air service poor. Unfriendly locals.

Review: I have played at this field many a time. The owner Randall is an awesome guy. He makes sure to go over the rules very carefully so that nobody gets hurt while trying to have fun playing paintball. the whole atmosphere at the field is laid back and un stressful. this is definitely the best field i have ever been to.

Review: I don't understand the posts made by "sweet98c" and "red3582". As always there's two sides to a story. The truth behind the incident at the New Mexico cup was that a group of conceded players from either Texas or Clovis, New Mexico got bent out of shape over a bad call made by a ref. Well the captain of that team "durty curry" threw a fit because he has appearantly never seen a bad call made by a ref. Well this captain wouldn't shut up, kept slandering the teams that were playing, got into an arguement and nearly a fight with a player's father and in general was acting like a complete jack@ss. I guess you could say he represented Texas well for he acted like a complete hick. So the owner of pba was nice enough to REFUND their money even though "durty curry" had played three or four games already. I guess since then it has been "durty curry's" intent to do anything and everything they could to "get pba" for hosting a tournament that they weren't content with. Just a little incident caused these guys to flip out and get their panties in a twist. The prizes for the tourney were also taken out of context. Yes, posters and t-shirts were provided but as hand outs. You didn't even have to play in the tournament to get a tee or a poster. Those were free. The prizes for finishing first were along the lines of JT pod packs, JT flexs, Halo hoppers, Jerseys, Pants, and other stuff. And as a side note, "durty curry's" home field went out of business. So you decide now that you know the truth.

PBA may be getting old by way of playing variety and that often brings criticism. They are the longest established store in all of New Mexico. That says a lot when paintball businesses are running into the ground one to two years after their first opening. PBA has the best unbiased refs, cleanest and safest fields, huge pro shop selection for parts and accessories, cheapest prices, courteous staff, and the best airtech in all of New Mexico.

What more could a baller dream of?

Review: probably the best field in New Mexico. Randall has his stuff together, the New Mexico cup ran great. All the people that are saying this field sucked are players from a team called "dirty curry" who got kicked out of the tournament for arguing/cussing at randall over a bad call made by one of the refs. the field were great, the air ball field was awesome. the prizes were very good. Randall didn't just give out "t-shirts and posters" he gave out goggle systems, halo tsa's, jt packs, jerseys and such. The refs did a great job considering they were short handed. Personally i had no complaints about the tourney, i will continue to play here and thoroughly enjoy it.

Review: PBA's field is the best in the state. Been around for years and if you have constructive criticism, Randall would love to hear it. But be mature and don't be a whiner. They have 3 speedball fields, a town and a huge rec/woods ball field. Speedball fields are; wallball, sup air and a spool field. If you're a good player and like tough fields with hard angles that make you think, you'll love it. If you want everything laid out perfectly so you don't have to think too hard, you'll hate it. These fields make you work for your win. People complained about the Cup, but those teams lost and blamed the refs instead of their playing.
