On 11-26-06 I had the opportunity to play paintball at The Swamp. I was first greeted by staff and other players with kindness and enthusiasm. Staff asked what fields that the guests were interested in playing and we played accordingly. I was able to play several games of woodsball and conceptball. I had a great time playing both fields. The Fields are well taken care of and were very fun to play. Safety was of the up most importance and strictly enforced. I would recommend this facility to all!
Great place to play when they try. For the first several times I went there, the games were too few and far between. Last time however, they really moved it along. Good mix of styles and a fantastic concept field. Paint prices a little high, but well worth it for the experience. Overall a fantastic place to STING!!! Go Sarge!
from yorktown-head twords glouster go over colemen bridge and go about 13-14 miles straight up 17 and the field will be on your right

First of all this is the ONLY field i will go to on the penninsula. The refs and workers are very helpful and some arent that bad looking i might add ;)
So you arrive at the gravel parking lot close to the fully re-netted fields. walk to the proshop which inside is accually a inclosed house-like structure and not a trailer or shed. Its air conditioned or heated depending on the weather. Bathrooms inplace of porto pottys, usually well stocked proshop and 99% of the time sarge is there and will take care of your every need.
The fields- I play speedball occasionally a little concept. THe refs are very helpful and let me and my cousin adjust the field to our liking. My cousin and I go to the swamp about twice a month(he lives out of town) and i go about 3 sometimes 4 times a month. We always arrive at 9(an hour before they open) so we can set up our gear and set the field up to our liking. Pricing is very reasonable about 15 for all day nitro and feild fee. (there allways having free feild days thats always nice) and we always get xball which is i believe 55.
refs- saftey is a top priority to the refs. always monitoring the staging stone and chrono to make sure people have barrel condoms on and if they are wearing there masks. also they always have a ref watching people chrono to make sure there not shooting hot. but i will admit they sometimes take the concept field too seriously. like my cousin and i usually jet up the side and flank the opposing team and one time he got out and told me that i dropped a pod when i was running and i was called out for talking to a dead man. i expect that on speedball but not on concept.
playing time- like i said my cousin and i get there about 9 to set up shop. proshop opens about 10 and the first games usaully 10:30- 11. we stay till 6pm and get about 20 speedball games in and about 6 concept games in.
players- most of the time there are alot of newcomers and woodsball players that come here. usually all nice and helping to eachother but some do get a little annoying. they dont have the best guns but most of the time some of them arent too scared to play some speedball with me and my cousin. were usaully split up unless we have other experienced players also.
food-the proshop has munchies like snickers, peanuts, slimjims, etc and also diffrent drinks like mountain dew, dr pepper, gatorade and redbull etc. Also if you or whoever your there with can drive thers a wendys about 2 miles up 17. (dont make the same mistake i did and walk there) luckily my cousin can drive now :).
overall i give this field a 9/10. its my favriote field and has a lot of great help and people.i see many kids leave with smiles on there face and people are always laughing and talking with eachother, young and old, and lending eachother parts, squeegies etc.
I HOPE TO SEE EVERYONE THERE SOON!!!!!!!!!! lets get alot of people for speedball and concept for someday after christmas!!
Right off Route 17 roughly 3 miles from the Coleman bridge

The Swamp is a great field. It has 3 5 arce woods fields a really cool concept field with a huge castle and a really good speedball field. They have young but experenced refs that are really really concerned with safety. The owner Tommy is great and really helpful. They are just starting to stock a store and are very competitive with thier prices. They told me i could get anything i needed from them in about a week. The field does get a little dirty somtimes and can get really wet right after it rains but i mean the places name is the Swamp. They have just built an air shack right next to the entrances of the fields so getting air takes no time at all. The best thing though is they just lowered thier prices. Its now just $5 to play all day that includes air and field fee. I havent found a field this cheep since PBA in gloucester was still open. They are field paint only though so u have to buy your paint from them. But thier white box is decent paint and thier mid an high grade paint is great. I go to the swamp every week and love it

When I arrived at the field, you could see their awesome 2-story castle in the distance, this place is awesome to play a good game of paintball at.
Service Shop-
Usually they'll charge you 15$ for all day air and field (they do not have nitro)
If your gun's broken, they'll fix it 4 ya, just don't buy anything from the shop but food, the equipment is way overpriced
Fields-
1 Speed Ball- bunkers were underflated
2 Woodsball fields- These fields have been blessed with people who actually care about the condition of the fields, there are only a few man-made structures out there, but the owner's planning on adding on more (and maybe another 2-story castle).
1 Awesome Concept Field- This field has a 2-story castle castle in the middle with a large amount of bunkers surrounding it.
Game Types-
Usually they play capture the flag, elimination, attack and defend, and at the final game they have a respawn battle royal.
Staff-
The refs are fair and are rather cool to talk to.
Cons-
-Concept field rather dirty

Good - The swamp is the best facility in south east VA. Speedball, scenario, & woods. Play is regulated by young refs who know the game. Prices are about the same as everywhere. Rules are fair and safety is job one. Alot of players show up to play. All levels of skill, not just "speedballer" pro's. Owners even get in on the fun.
Bad - Field advertises speedball, scenario, and woods, but you don't have a choice. Refs pick games and are biased against woods play. Also, way too much time in between rounds. I stayed 5 hours only played 5 games. Other facilities plays 12 games in 5 hours.
I dont know any other fields becuase i am new to it but the Swamp is great.

The Swamp is the best. It has 2 woods areas speed ball (my favorite) and a huge field with a big 2 story castle on it. The service is great the reff's are great and its fun. I had my birthday there and it was awsome. I was scared at first but then it became a blast. The Swamp is great for experienced players or begginers. They have good prices and the games are clean and fair. Its the best.
Staff was excellent !! They were very safety conscious and kept play quick and fair. Also I needed a part and presto they had it on site. Prices were reasonable, and by the time I left, I was out of energy, but very satisfied with the fun I'd had. The only disappointment was that the speedball fields were...hmm... in a state of flux, as it were, and I went there intending to play speedball all day if I could. Dang. Still, I had all the fun I could stand, and will return again soon.
This field is awsome it has a 2 story Casle in the middle of the Concept course and has a nice speedball field and has 2 woods fields. good refs. the ower is awsome and sarge's paintball shop is number one in my book

Haven't played at a VA field before. Mostly down in NC.
Review:
I've only played at 1 field here in VA, and I'm glad that this one is only 20 minutes away.
I'm gonna start with the bad stuff so that I can take some edge off at the end.
-I was a little worried because the refs looked so young. One of them couldn't be much older than 13 or 14.
-A LITTLE... run down... JUST A LITTLE though.
-Kinda muddy
-Not a whole lot in the way of proshop stuff
The good stuff offsets this though.
-The field owner (I called him DigiCams) Tommy is a pretty nice guy. Really informative and seems like he's anxious to help you with whatever.
-While the refs ARE young for the most part, they communicate really well and get on each other about checking people and are good about getting a hustle on to check hits and prevent wiping or cheating. Also enforce safety really hard.
-Good family environment. A couple older couples came with their kids and seemed like they had a really good time. No one's up there making fun of anyone for not wearing spiffy uniforms or rocking a 1,500 dollar gun. And everyone I saw there (only been once mind you) seemed like they were there to help.
-It rained that week for awhile, and a little that day. So the mud is a no brain-er.
-Really nifty concept field that the owner said they were constantly adding on to.
All in all, I had a blast here. It beat my experience at Freedom down in fayetteville by a good bit, the refs were on it and seemed motivated (whether or not they were who knows) There's a good selection of paint and plenty of it laying around. .. if you're using tournament grade paint on a walkon field to play concept and scenario games you might need to take your intensity down a notch and have some fun. The field seems like it's doing well and from the way DigiCams was talking you can tell that the guys there are motivated to keep making it better. I plan on becoming a regular up there during 2006.
