master blasters(keep driving another 25 min you be at pirate you'll be glad you did)
the best paint ball Field around!!!!!!!!!!!!! this was my first time out there defiantly wont be my last. the people at the Field couldn't have been any more friendly. they have three sweet fields. I really like the woods ball and there working on a scenario Field witch should be pretty cool to ive been playing at master blasters but they don't have anything on pirate.
This was my first time playing here but the people here made me feel like I had played here 1000 times. Everyone was so friendly and no attitudes. My friend was there playing paintball for the first time ever and they made him real comfortable. The airball field was fun, but my favorite was the speedball field. We will definatly be back to this field.
ActionTown Sports- Very good field
Masterblasters-People say have a very nice airball
Bethel Park-This one is ok..it has a very good setup but wait way to long between games
This is a great field. Even though I have only been to it twice (once in a tourney, and once with a big group from my school) They have really nice fields. Their speedball field is a lot better than I expected, the setup is great with a zipper and snake that turned out to be my favorite field on my first day there. The airball field is good on some days, it kinda depends on who sets it up, because when I went there with the group I hated the setup with a passion but for the tourney I loved it. I didn't really pay much attention to woods from what I hear that's pretty good. The staff is great also. Chad is a really cool guy to talk to and he runs a very good field. I forget the bottle fillers name but he's cool also ha-ha. I give this field a 9/10 because nothings perfect but this is definitely a field I will keep going to in the future.
Pirate Paintball has by far the best woodsball field i have ever played in. there are so many places to tuck in and hide under it makes it almost impossible not to hide. this field pushes u to be as tactical as possible cuz if u pop up wrong ur done. this field is highly recomended to anyone who plays woodsball. i prefer woods ball but the airball field and speedball field is just sick the zipper makes a big difference on how u can play this field i highly sugest that anyone who wants to play at a great field should come.
I just moved to Elizabeth City in May '05. I have played a wide variety of fields in Dallas/Fort Worth, TX area. The owner and staff at Pirate Paintball were the most helpful and pleasant to deal with than any other paintball field I have visited since I started paintballing four years ago.
This past weekend I took nearly 30 students and adults to Pirate Paintball in Elizabeth City. Most of the students and parents had never done paintball before. Several of the kids were neverous and scared of what might happen. By the end of the day everyone was begging me to organize another visit soon. Even a couple 6th grade girls (who were the most scared at the beginning) said they cannot wait to go back to Pirate Paintball again. As a leader and organizer of events, I know how difficult and challenging it can be to organize a trip like this. I thank Chad at Pirate Paintball for making it so easy to plan. Your staff could not have been nicer to us and giving us a lot of freedom and flexibility with our games, times, etc. We most certainly will be back again. Originally I planned to go back in the Spring, but I think we will probably go back again sooner. We had a blast, thanks for the great time and memories. Our adults and students are still talking about their fun day! God bless!
None Here, In California and Nevada-
BLM Land- Not as good
DOF Land- Not as good
Murder Inc. - Close, but not as good
I love this field. Its Probably the best I've ever played at.
The parking here is somewhat limited. You have to park at either on the long dirt road or in the staging area. I can imagine that it could get very crowded if a lot of people show up.
The staff here are the best. Hands down. Everyone is very friendly and helpful. Also sometimes the owner brings his dog that likes to eat paintballs and fetches pods.
The staging area is right in front of all the fields. Not even a minute walk to any of them. Its a open dirt area in front of registration area. There's some garbage cans and only a few tables. They are planing to build some sort of structure to provide shade in the summer.
As of now they have 3 fields.
The woodsball field is great. It's pretty big and has 3 forts including one on a small hill. Also one of the forts has a tunnel, which ive never seen before and is a interesting idea. The field is somewhat muddy, but then again it's the woods, and it rains.
They have a wooden speedball field that they built themselves that is just great. Its got 2 zippers on each side and great lanes and bunkers. Its pretty clean, but of course there are going to be paintballs in there. There is a bit of mud, but they put woodchips down where it gets pretty muddy, so its not bad at all.
The field has one Chronic Airball field. In the times i've been there they don't have it set up unless you want it set up.
The reffing here is terrific. They pay attention and get right in the action. They have no problems if you ask them questions and are very knowledgeable and friendly. They make good, fair calls and i've never had any problems with them. The also will check peoples markers if they/you think they are shooting too fast or hot.
The most players play here in the Spring and Winter due to the fact that it's so hot there in the summer. Birthday party's aren't uncommon here too. There's a decent mix of speedballers and woodsballers, and i've seen everything from Ghillie Goons and people in full SpecOps gear to hardcore speedballers. I've never had any problems with players; no cheating or bonus balling or stuff like that. You see markers from rentals to a few DYE's, Ego's, and Angels. The most commonly seen marker is the Ion, and the 98. Some people, especially kids, have started to be come real cocky. It's starting to get a little annoying.
They rent some Pirhanas, but now they are getting into renting 98's. Also sometimes you can rent HPA tanks from them. They do have pod packs that they rent out. The rentals are well cared for and people don't have any problems with them.
The have a bunch on small stuff for sale like gloves from JT and Evil, some Proto and Mantis pads, Strange and other NXe packs, NXe Barrel Condoms, swabs, and sometimes other stuff like that. Also the owner can buy things for you and have it for you by the next weekend with some stuff.
The field paint varies from time to time here. All the paintballs i've seen them carry are,
-RPS White Box
-All 3 XBalls
The prices on paint are usually really good and cheap, depending on what you want to buy.
Safety here is Okay. If you don't have a barrel cover they'll give you one for the day. The netting around the speedball and airball fields is good, and if a storm pulls some of it down, they're working on getting it back up the next day. The netting is a little run down around the woodsball field. I keep my mask on around it just in case. Also you can use a barrel plug, but if you're going to be coming here often, they would like it if you get a barrel bag.
EDIT: I have recently seen people using barrel swabs as BBD's. Got to stop!
They open at 9, although they may be there early to get set up. The close when everyone leaves, or when you run out of paint. They really care for their players here.
10.00 All day HPA or CO2
10.00 Field Fee
10.00 BYOP Fee
Now they do have a membership option here; for 100.00 you get,
10.00 All Day Air and Field
5.00 Off Paint
5% Off Shop Items
The Membership pays for it's self after 8 games.
-They only have one Portable Toilet
-They regularly have tournaments and small scenario games
The prizes at the tournaments aren't bad, the recent young guns tourney had 3 Ion's for first prize. In the open class it was 50% of the entry fees collected, but after that it was only 5 Cases of Inferno for 2nd and 3 Cases of White Box for 3rd. That had better be good white box for a 250.00$ entry fee!
-There is no food for sale at the field
-The do have an Air Compressor
-They are working on buying land to build a shooting house
-Some players smoke if that's a problem for you
-There are a decent amount of teams that play here; a few young guns, and 5 man teams.
-The chrono is on an honor system

I have been paint balling on and off for about 3 years. Although I play very rarely I have been to a good sized amount of paintball fields. So far throughout my "paintball career" I've found that most paintball fields tend to be ran rather shoddy. The refs are always jerks, the paintballs are too expensive, and one receives little to no help if their gun malfunctions other than "you can rent one of ours". Let me be the one to tell you that this is NOT the case with pirate paintball. Aside from having one of the best speed ball courses I've played on and an air ball course this paintball field had one more thing, people who actually care. The only way I can explain how nice these people were is to say that I honestly would go back again if I could just to hang out with these people. In being around them one realizes quite quickly that they are really here for the love of paintball, not the money involved. Much as if you were playing with your best friends, if you aren't having a good time, then they aren't. Its as simple as that.
This field is awesome the people are the nicest people you will ever meet and they put on some great tournaments. The people there are always finding a way to help you with very cheap paint prices. The greatest feilds out there. They have a wood speed ball, blow up chronic field, a woods ball field, and a wheat field.
Drivers Paintball - More Expensive, lower quality, meaner people
My backyard - ghetto
I have played at Pirate Paintball 3 times now, and each of those times has been the best paintball experience of my life. The staff there is very friendly and helpful (look for Jay) the prices are great and the speedball has many different bunkers for a different experience each time. The airball field is very nice to, featuring chronis sup'airball bunkers. Although i am not a fan of woodsball they have a very nice woods field with many natural and manmade bunkers. The only thing they could improve on is the bugs/mosquitos in the woods, but that is not their fault at all. The prices here are the best i've ever seen. They have very nice rental packages featuring electronic markers. There are usually tourney and rec players there, but they co-exist wonderfully each taking a field or having a big game together. They are adding an airconditioned room to keep the paint cool. Also, they can order pretty much any paintball gear for you at extremely low prices. Overall, this is the best field i have ever been to and if you will feel the same if you try it. It is well worth the 2 hour drive for me. A BIG 10!!
Action Town Sports- Ft. Eustis- smaller fields, paint prices higher, extensive registration and search process to get on post.
I have played this field 3 times now and have had great experiences all 3 times. The last was a private group event just for me and classmates.
First of all, the staff is great. Very helpful, accommodating, and clearly want everything to go smoothly. We felt very welcome. Refs are just right- they stay involved in the game, watching carefully and calling people out, but won't overpower the play. They will enforce the rules but not be rude about it. Mechanical problems were solved very quickly. Never saw them berate or condescend to anyone, rookie or veteran player. Always polite and helpful.
Equipment- Piranah electronic markers. Excellent working condition, 3 round burst and full auto options. Several choices for paint, usual market prices.
Woods ball. Best I have ever seen. Lots of options, plenty of cover but the annoying underbrush has been cleared out. The fort is particularly well-designed. There has clearly been a lot of thought put into this. 40 players can play without being cramped, yet 12 players still got plenty of action.
Speedball. Nice size field, well laid out with many obstacles for many different options. Not at all the open field I've seen elsewhere, but a challenging course with lots of cover.
Overall: Terrific staff, nice equipment, great fields. Best field I have ever played. Worth the hour drive from Norfolk every time. Chad certainly works hard to make the customers happy, whether they are the weekend warrior or a private group. We will be making this a yearly event.
