Played at Xcalibre yesterday as part of a group thing with a group of around 30 - the staff were exceptional, getting everyone registered and ready to play a half hour early and being very, very prompt and courteous. The end of season sale was on and a lot of us spent money in the pro-shop - with service that good it was hard not to. All of the staff vere very courteous, knowledgable and friendly.
The courses were, for the most part, very nicely set up - we managed to get at least one game in on most every course save the airball fields. I personally am not a fan of trenches games but the trenches field was popular among most of the other players. Tires was a bit of a paintwaster with a group that size as we both got pinned within 10 feet of the start box. Junkyard was EXCELLENT, definitely one of the best fields, and deadwood was a lot of fun - possibly a bit lopsided for starting areas. We stuck around for the big fort games, and the fort was a great field to play - the big scenario game at the end of the day is a definite must for anyone coming out, as it gives everyone a chance to get out and play as a big group.
Our group had an absolute blast, and are intending to make this trip a yearly occurence.
ESG - not nearly as good fields, prices, staff as Xcalibre.
PAG - airball field is not as well maintained, and it is much more crowded than Xcalibre.
YGP - Only played on their airball field which was on par with Xcalibre.
I have been a regular at this field for two years now.
All of the woodsball courses are excellent. There are a variety of field sizes and styles so they can accommodate any size of group. I've played with groups as small as two and as big as 40+ without issues.
Their rentals are good, no problems and in decent condition. If you ever have a problem they will bring a new one to you at the field, you don't have to walk back to the shop which is nice. All of the rentals are clean and work fine, multiple packages to choose from.
Staff is very friendly and helpful, very knowledgable and willing to answer all your questions. The refs make sure everyone is having a good time and teams are not stacked unfairly.
Proshop has good prices and they will get you what you need. If they don't have it, they'll order it for you.
They have a lot of extra rentals that you can purchase which is nice - there's pod packs, neck guards, electronic loaders, etc etc etc for a bit more money if you wish to enhance your paintball experiance.
They often rent you out a free HPA if you have Co2 which is great so you can fill up at the fields and hpa is better for your marker :)
In terms of prices, they are decent. With your own gear, there is a $20 entry fee, and then $90-$120 for a case of paint, depending on quality. With a field membership paint and entry is reduced dramatically.
Xcal is an awesome field I would definitely recommend checking it out.

I have been playing on this field since it has opened, and I would have to say that it has to be one of the best fields in Alberta, I have played on every field around Edmonton and Calgary and nothing really compares, ill break down why.
Safety (9/10) - When i first walked towards the fields there was a numerous ammount of safety features that i noticed. They have very nice 25 foot nets surrowding everywhere that you are without masks required, gives you the sence that you know that you are safe. They also have very strick rules in regardes to when you are leaving the field, there is always a ref keeping a close eye on you! Yet the reason that I give it a nine is because where you chrono your gun is a little sloppy on the bushball side of things!
Fields (10/10) - The fields that you will experience here are like nothing else! They have speed ball fields for those who like to waste paint and they have around 10 bush ball fields that are unreal, they have a everything you can think of, including underground buses that you can walk through, and forts that you can walk accross, too a maze course, and a tire town! The best I have ever seen!
Hours of Operation (10/10) - Just like any other course, they close when the fields get too dark to play on.
Prices (7-10) - I must say, the prices that you pay are a little crazy. It is a cheap $20 field fee with free air and all that fun stuff, but there cheapiest paint runs you around $100 a box which can start to add up after a long day.
Services (10/10) - You will not beat the service here anywhere else, they have many techs and will work on your gun when it breaks down, and get it working fast so that you can get back out there paintballing. The owner of the course is always there, and he is usally the one to personally look after you which gives off a good vibe about the place!
Proshop & Rentals (10/10) - XCailber has to have the coolest pro shop ever, what the basically did was did a huge hole in the fround a barried 5 C-Cans (basically the big containers you see on semi's) and than filled dirt all around it except for the front and they have a underground proshop, you walk through these huge doors and into this miltary looking inside that will truely blow your mind! They have any thing you will ever need in there, they mainly deal with BT4 as thats what the rent out to players. As for rentals I cannot give a truely honest review for it as I have never actually rented, all I can say is that they have alot of packages to choose from, such as a basic setup with CO2 and a gravity hopper all the way to a Smartparts Ion with and HPA tank and a halo hopper!
Refs & Players (9/10) - There are usually great players and refs, that being said you will always come accross a questionable ref or the odd player who thinks he is the best in the world and wont stop talking about himself and his stuff which usually pisses people off.
Food (8/10) - They have a consecion setup there that is not part of the proshop that sells hotdogs and hamburgers and some drinks, and it is kinda pricey, but it is very good quailty food, and the lady that runs it is very nice, but you can never get her to stop talking haha.
Conclusion - All in all this is one of the best courses that I have been on, if you are into any kind of painball if its speedball or bushball, there is something for you to do there, there service is like no other and it is all in all a great atmosphere, I give the course a solid 9/10
Safety: 10 Fields: 10 (AMAZING variety and were working on more) HoO: N/a(cant remeber) Prices: 10 Proshop 9: Not the best for gear, but weapon selection was amazing
Rules: 10 Services: 10 (lent out free vest for player in our group scared of getting shot(
Refs10, Facilities 10 Food N/a( cant remeber)
First Experience with woodsball was on this course. It was almost to Perfect, although first day there it was 2v2. second day was way better with 8v8 3rd and last 3v2.
Fields were the best and top quality, Many large and small, all different which was nice.
Games were the standard variety or you could have your own, the refs were understanding and pretty laidback. Free Air/Gas all day, paint was good priced, Rental guns were top of line markers(Sad to say better then mine at the time, when i went). Not going to lie had my best paintball experience here. Not to much more i can say but give it a try.
Recommend for everyone!!!!!!!!!!!(Speedball players not so much but there is a course for them)
The accuracy of this review is disputed. Please see discussion on the comments page.
Period of Field Use:
July 25th, 2009
Other Fields in the Area:
YGP- Good field overall, needs some new courses but its getting better 8/10
Quest for Adventure- In need of some upgrades for sure, pretty run down and sad on the service end of things. 5/10
PAG Outdoor- Good field but needs some different courses, mostly just bush and more bush. 6/10
This is an excellent and very professional field which i really enjoyed playing at. The refs were good, they suggested fields for the walk ons, enforced the safety rules, and payed alot more attention to the games, ie checking hits on players etc then you would find at any other field and it made for a very enjoyable time. The fields were from the ones we played in very good condition and far more interesting and well layed then you will find at pretty much any field. The pro shop was nice and clean with a reasonable amount of the usual mods, guns etc, but the service at xcalibre is top notch, i have seldom seen this level of service at any place much less a paintball field i applaud everyone that makes this place so excellent.
Chronoing- When we had all signed in we were rdy to chrono we were taken to their target range to chrono our guns, which was done by a ref with a hand held chrono....
This isnt the end of the world but some nice big reds layed out on a table where you could take your time to set your marker up nice so you were shooting just under the safe limit would be alot nicer then rushing through while a ref is holding a dorky hand held under your gun. From my understanding they do have big reds set up but only at the speedball area and for us none speedballers, it feels a bit awkward and unproffesional for an otherwise amazing course.
Paint prices!!! $100 for their lowest grade box of paint (RPS Stinger) up to $120 for Marbs, my god that is insane anywhere else you could get a box of low grade for $70-$80's, i know they have to make money but i find that a bit hard to swallow.
I am being a bit picky i know but the only reason i am is in the hopes that these guys can fix a few issues with an otherwise stellar field, that every other field should strive to be like. Its not perfect but its pretty damn close :)
Quest for Adventure: Played there once will never go back
ESG: Close to city field are in rough shape
PAG: Alright field
Young Guns: Was my home field
Directions to the Field:
A hour and half north of Edmonton on Hwy 831 Long Lake Provincal Park. South of Boyle.
This field is amazing this is a model field on how the sport should be show cased. Right when you get there and walk down the hill to there Underground Proshop that has the most and best priced selection of paintball products in the Edmonton area. There staff is extremly helpfull right from the lady that takes your money to the kid they have in the back cleaning guns. Safety is huge they want everyone to have fun but rules come first to protect everyone that is at the field. The refs are awesome they acutally play paintball and they are not some hot girl they hired to push paint (Young Guns).
There fields are the best in Alberta by far nothing compares to this field right from kick a## bush courses to speedball fields that are full regulation size . Did I also mention they have the worlds largest fort it is huge this thing isn't made out of plywood our something that was slapped together over a weekend. I was told by the refs that the owner himself and one other guy worked on that thing 14hrs a day untill it was finished truly amazing well done. They also have a concession and the food is great.
I know it is a little ways out of Edmonton but right across from Xcalibre is Long Lake Provincal Park and I think there is over 400 campsites in that area. The Lake is very nice and clean. This field is the Las Vegas of the paintball industry. Thanks for building it.
QUEST FOR ADVENTURE , no comment, never been there since, will never return!
YOUNG GUNS,decent place,good rentals/paint ,rate them 7 out of a 10.
SCREAMIN' EAGLE ,very first place where we started to paintball, some of the guys didn't like how they were treated over the years, have not been there since!
Directions to the Field:
Located next to long lake provincial park about 20 or so mins south of boyle
What is there to say that hasn't already been said about this place, they have everything,a store to purchase gear etc, great service, pricing, extremely friendly staff, paint is the best and priced well, awesome fields, rentals are good, concession to feed and quench your thirst, absolutely THE BEST PAINTBALL PARK around!
Definately worth the drive from anywhere in ALBERTA to play at this park!
Keep up the good work Walter, you and your staff are by far the best in the business!

PAG- Have not played
Young Guns - Have not played, but am next month, will update
Screamin' Eagle - Decent field, Enjoyed the time spent there. paint is costly for some, decent rental gear, had a good day out there... can see some improvment in some fields maintance and repairs on the houses to fill cracks to prevent crack shooters in the town.
Directions to the Field:
20 min north of Waskateanu (the big petro canada on HWY 28
20 min south of Boyle and right beside a campground and a 9 hole golf course! :) GOLF FISHING CAMPING AND PAINTBALL! No one else has it this convient!
Food: a nice little concession on site, nice basic foods, they can cook quite a bit of normal camp style food here for ya and have a nice selection of beverages. They have a BBQ that you can use if you are booking a larger event, along with it is a bring your own food, and cooking tools... so come prepared if your BBQ'in burgers or hotdogs... :)
**EDIT** screw bringing your own food! go to their concession, wonderful people and amazing food. bring cash cause i did not see debit, taco in a bag (best investion ever) is 5 bucks, get one or two!
Safety: never been to a safer course. good coverage of mesh, picnic benches everywhere for you to sit and they are all protected. the refs are good to ya as well, and STERN! don't break the safety rules or they will not hesitate to bench ya and take away the marker! i like hearing that.
Fields: Wow! i played their junkyard, Town, Tire bunker, and their towers/Trench field. they were AWESOME! Well planed out, well placed bunkers,
Their airball field is well maintained, good grass, fill station convience during events, nice large area for tables, a very safe and nice set-up
the junkyard has two buried buses! be careful on the junkyard as they are old vehicles so there may be sharp parts on the bunkers, but honestly, you should not be on top of the car for very long if your up there... :)
The tire course is smaller and perfect for a 5 v 5 or smaller game, we played some 3 on 3 and 2 on 2 games there... honestly, my favorite field for smaller groups!
the trenches we saw a 6 v 6 fight and a 9 v 9 fight, so much fun... i gogged a few people and got a guy in the rear! just to be eliminated by the opposing team in a very well executed pinch. this field is large enough that pinches, hopping bunkers and trenches and excellent teamwork can push out gunned teams to victory! :)
Their town is without a doubt a very impressive field. VERY well built buildings, sturdy, clean, safe to play in, no crack shots can happen here... WATCH YOUR FEET they have some houses that have holes made at foot level... i pegged a guy in the toe through one. this is a very very fun field to play.
They also just opened a new "fort" field... it is massive and looks very very impressive, never got to play her though...
**Edit** went and looked at their fort, never seen nothing so sexy... need alot of people to shoot that baby up though... Walter is still working to finish the inside but it is functional.
Hours of operation: they operate at the times you want to play, and they shut down when your not supposed to be... we played at 8:00 p.m. and they open at 10 i beleive, as long as there is a ref avalible for you to play and the ref is willing and its safe i am fairly certain they will let you play
Prices: they have 4 types of field paint that is good to great quality, i shoot their red legion, and it works very well in my A5, very nice prices on paint as well,
**edit**they removed red legion and put in a paint i forget the name of, but it is similar grade cept breaks easier, they also have formula 13 and marbalizers as a mid and high paint respectivly**
Services/proshop: these guys will do anything they can to make your visit perfect! i arrived for my first game there with my A5 and a Co2 marker, i registered fairly quick and easily for the amount of people there, bought a new barrel with ease, and when i went to get my paint from their paint window, i asked the gent there where i could get my Co2 tank filled. he told me to give him my co2 tank and he threw my name down, and lended me an HPA tank for the day as there were HPA fill stations out in the fields and he did not want me running back to the proshop any time i needed a fill... that is service. they have a gator transport if you have alot of gear you need brought in from the parking lot, they will get you to load it in and then take it down to the staging area for ya. wonderful staff!
Staff: these guys rock! they work with you, not against you. they work to make your day enjoyable, they are a fun group of people, the refs could joke around. we were not playing serious ball, and BANG these guys were on our page. they took safety serious and that was it... we were out for fun, and they made sure we had fun while abiding by their safety standards. The refs treated each other and all players with respect as long as we showed it to them. Don't mess with these guys, they are good ones!
i cannot say enough good things about these guys. i drove 2 hours each way to play here, and i will be doing it again and again. i am off to their field for their events soon, as they host three or more speedball events a year. they will probally be hosting a few milsim style games as well, with their new fort and all.
Watch for these guys to be headlining magazines soon as a great field to play on. they rock so hardcore!
**EDIT** Edits are marked clearly, nothing bad added though, only good... was just there this past weekend, am going again this weekend... love this place...

Customer service is wicked, the refs are great, they have awesome paint there, no cheap stuff. The pro shop is really cool. Its an underground bunker.
They have tons of rentals for all player types, lots of gear to buy, they have awesome fields to play on. the staff are xtremely helpfull in getting you geared up for the day and to make it really fun. great place for newbies to get into paintball.
Located by Long Lake Provincial Park in Alberta, approx. 5 min south of Boyle, AB. On Highway 831.
I only started paintballing in Aug 2007. Have only been to Excaliber Paintball field.
I went there with my family (Brother-in-law, nephew's & niece, wife), we played for 6 hours our first day. Could barely move, but went back for another 6 hours the next day.
Bought my first paint ball gun from their proshop, Walter has great knowledge & doesn't steer you wrong. Just upgraded my gun again, looking to purchase one for the wife!
Mitzy is great at getting everyone through even though it's extremely busy! I always have a blast playing there & the ref's are great (even when they get shot by mistake - sorry Josh!).
Took a season membership there, plan on being out there at least every weekend until they close.
Lots of different fields to play, fun for everyone whether you are a recreational paintballer (like myself), or more serious.
Excaliber Paintball has everying you need in one stop.
