Reading the other reviews of splatters makes me wonder if some of these people have been to this field recently (like within the past 6 months or so) or if they are basing their reviews on things that happend quite a while ago.
No, they do no water down the sand to keep it down (i don't think they ever did that).
No, they do not use the instructional video anymore.
Yes, they've improved the lighting quite a bit.
Yes, the staff has improved.
Yes, they pro shop has improved.
The Refs wear propper masks (although sometimes they only wear half masks).
The Refs do try to make the teams even in skills / fire power.
This field has come a long way. It's a good field with a good lay out and games. If you didn't like you last visit then come again and see how things have changed.
Sgt. Splatters suffers from some serious problems. Like the other reviews have stated, the worst thing about it is the lighting conditions. They only have a few windows in the huge, warehouse-like field, and in the daytime, the lighting is so poor that I'd rather take the chance of playing outlaw paintball in the local woods. Don't even bother trying to go after sunset, because you aren't going to see your opponent to shoot them.
It also suffers from poor equipment. They use Winchester Durangos (or Sedonas, not sure), which is only marginally better than Brass Eagles. The masks are dirty and disgusting, they are absolutely not sanitized regularly.
The staff does not seem overly helpful as well. Many of them are rude, and unless you shout at them, they won't lift a finger to help you with anything even if you're standing at the counter waiting.
Overall, the atmosphere is not as friendly as I would like. The majority of players are either testosterone pumped, cocky twenty-somethings or adolescent Junior High kids. Neither group are particularly appealing as squadmates, at least as a whole.
I haven't been to other fields, like the Badlands, because I'm not yet 18. But when I finally get there, I'm probably not going to bother with Splatters much. Its cons just outweigh its pros.
Well, i dont like the sand... well last time i went it was actually mud. I would prefer sand though. staging area stinks, lighting isnt as great. field is HUGE. it's ok but some of the houses/bunkers are posistioned not so well. doesn't give a rusher any real advantage, more of a disadvantage. first field i went to, but not the best. i've tried area 51 and sgt. spallters don't compare!
Wasaga Paintball(WAAAY BETTER)
Paintball City (Not as good)
Review:
This place is pretty good, probably the best indoor paintball in Toronto, but I've never been to Area 51. The field is BIG, which is REALLY good. The staff are really cool - if you forget a hopper, need an o-ring, they give you at no charge. My friend even forgot his tank once and they let him borrow one! LOL! The problem is sometimes there are volunteer refs. They are OK, but they can't control the people(I've seen the games go on with people shooting after the ref blows the whistle) And the refs don't really call people out (wipers, not-going-off'ers) Other than that, half price paintball during the week is GREAT! And the field is really good itself. Sand is far superior to gravel(paintball city), and they just got new lighting which makes it easier to see targets. I' d give it about 7.5
I live in Toronto so I've been to many indoor fields. The 3 largest contenders in being the best indoor paintball field is Area51 (the best), Paintball City (ok), and Sgt.Splatters (the worst)
My biggest beef with Sgt.Splatters is the very low light conditions. It's almost impossible to see through the darkness. There's very little room in where you can set-up your equipment and each time you go to thier field, you must watch the "instructional video". The front desk is run by teen-agers who are somewhat lazy but can sometimes be helpful.
The field itself is very large which is a plus but again, nobody can see anything due to the low lighting conditions. The walls are covered with sludge and the ground is made up of sand. The sand gets all over you and go inside the internals of your precious marker.
Area51 is amazing, Paintball City is ok, and Sgt.Splatters will never see my business again.
