Painted Forest (Lynchburg, VA) is best for recreational level woodsball. No airball or hyperball fields.
Paintball Virginia (Danville, VA) has several forts and bunkers throughout the property and a netted hyperball and an X-ball field right next to ample level parking.
Directions to the Field:
From business 29, turn onto Mt Cross Road in Danville, VA. Turn left onto VA Route 1522, at the T, veer left then turn right into the old school parking lot. Drive between the trailers on the path down to the field.
Red-vs-Blue flag station domination event.
Masks on before you step past the netting. Mandatory chrono before the event at 285 fps. Chrono again after lunch before you could walk back on. Netting was in good shape. No serious bunker or fort construction concerns. No RPG's allowed.
The hyperball field was in good shape. The X-Ball field was regulation. The forts were both defensible and attackable. Bunkers were strategically placed. There was some undergrowth and roads to navigate. During the scenario event, there was something for everybody.
Bart is very personable and was genuinely concerned that we were all safe and had fun. I consider him to be one of the better owner/operator I've met, and hope that his business can continue to grow.
These guys were outstanding. Bright orange vests made them easy to spot. They were super cool and in 90 degree humid heat, they're out there *running* onto the field to do paint checks. One even followed us into enemy territory, seeing that we were going after a flag for points. Good communication within the staff.
Minimal. One porti-john. Downtown is just a few miles away.
For the event, they offered some burgers and drinks. We drove to a nearby fast food joint during the break and enjoyed some AC.
Ticks are really bad this year out in the fields and the woods, so be prepared before and after. The event attendance wasn't as high as I had hoped, but the staff adapted gameplay as needed to keep it fun and competitive.
One of the best parts of any paintball event is sitting around later and telling stories. What's better? Photographic evidence of your deeds (or misdeeds). They posted some really great photos of the event, and I encourage readers to check them out.
When I go back, I'm gonna drag the rest of the squad with me. Just a couple minor things kept this field from rating a 10 out of 10.
Big Pearl Paintball, Splatter Mountain, Command Decisions, The Swamp, Red River, EMR. U get the idea
Directions to the Field:
It's about 3 minutes from Wal-Mart behind an old school.
Just played here once in a scenario event. Looks like they have some great speedball plenty of netting. Ref's and owner were great, prices were reasonable. The field itself have nice terain with good paths. I expecially liked the pine forest area. However all of the woodsball area in my opinion needs more bunkers. We won the scenario 9 missions to 2 because we sprinted to the objectives, then played defense the hole time. It was just to hard to move up through those weeds. I would see a person having an even harder time in the winter. The good news is Bart seems like a really great guy. He just took over and it appears that he's going to be progressivly making more improvements. I really enjoyed the scenario itself, very well thought out. I hope this field does well, I would love to play there again.
+Plenty of level parking
+When I checked out the field in advance of the scenario Bart (the owner) gave me an hour long tour, then sat and talked paintball with me for another couple of hours. I'll say it again, very nice guy.
+Extremely large woodsball playing field.
The only reason I'm giving this field less then a 10 is because it does need more barricades in the woodsball area. Other then that can't really think of anything I didn't like.
