Neck Protection....Good or Bad??

Ok, not really good or bad, but, do you use it or don't you and why??? post and poll plz.

A doctor plays paintball at my field. He won't play unless he has some good protection around his throar area.

Either he's a wimp, or that could be dangerous to take a hit there. I've been meaning to ask him, but I always forget. So I wear one, as long as it's not unbelievably hot.

I think neck protection is important, but you don't need to buy it. You can make your own. That's what I did, I just use some beefed up cardboard. The key is to just lessen the impact to your neck so that you don't get any serious injuries.

any shot to the neck, with or without a neck protector, will still hurt no matter what. like he said, adding neck protection can really lessen the impact.

You can kill someone with a strie to the adam's apple, I believe that it severs the windpipe. Make what you will from that, but I imagine that's why the doctor wants protection.

i wear one. just because now i am less scared of getting hit there. i am gonna buy some gloves soon so then i will only be scared of getting hit on the back of the head :p

I never wear neck protection. I feel it is just another thing to buy and carry around. I know it is unsafe w/out it, but I do what I want to do.

Yeah, I talked to the doctor and he said that taking a blow to the frontal area of your neck could possibly kill you, by suffocating[sic] you. Crushing your trachea or something to do with that, I was lost in all the babble a bit of the way in.

So, when it's choosing between dieing or spending $5 (or wrapping a bandana around your throat or something like that), I think I'm gonna chose the $5. But hey, I guess if your life's not worth skipping a burger, don't buy/make one.

And pr0k, wear a hat backwards if you're scared of getting hit there. I usually do in the winter, because I was shot in the forehead from about 5ft before, and it gave me a small concusiion. No permanent brain damage...or so they say, biut may tipeeng nad speelng r fien, do u thank knot?

I've been shot in the neck a couple of times, but only once right on the trachea. It really didn't hurt any more than a normal bare-skin hit, and I didn't have any breathing problems (other than my mild asthma). Still, I don't wear neck protectors because it is more uncomfortable than getting shot there once every couple of months. But it's still your choice.

i play with a t-shirt and jeans. and if you saw the mask i wear you wouldnt be happy:)

really, that's good for you:) i recently got hit pretty close to the adam's apple... it stung, and it felt like i got wind kinda knocked out of me. in my situation, i was right behind a bunker, and someone long-balled me, the ball hit the lower part of flex-7, and bounced off and then hit my throat.... i was like "argh, that #$&*$* $&*$&#*# hurt."
it bleeded for a couple of minutes... and i had my neck protection in my car, as i was thinking no one is gonna hit me there... but they did. so if you want to, get one, but it is really not needed... the best neck protectors are from unique paintball... its like a neck pillow....
