im not going to answer that but welcome to the boards. try the http://www.pbreview.com/forums/search.php (search) feature. look for like "best marker for 300" or something nice like that.

Not the best idea to ask peoples opinions on here..they might give you them. :D

But personally (we all knew this was coming...) I would say the Tippmann Custom Model 98. Go to this forum (http://www.pbreview.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?forumid=72) and search around the stickies (the top 7 "Threads"..or posts).

Also this thread (http://www.pbreview.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=98483) gives you some good comparing between the Model 98 and the ProCarbine.

Welcome aboard!! nah...jk

Anyway, I guess Turambar is right, and I'm sure 90% of the people here would prolly agree with us, but the Tippmann Model 98 Custom is prolly the best gun to start off with. I gather that you're new to this sport, or have at least played once or twice. But yeah, Model 98 Custom is the wya to go, and from there, you'll find out what you want later on.

Well I must be that missing 10%!! I would say to start with a Spyder. I started with a Spyder 2K. I found the Spyders to more upgradeable then the Tippys. As you get better you can make your marker better. There is just a lot more you can do with a Spyder. I also like the looks better. The tippy just looks boring. The spyders come in much more flashy colors (this only matters if you worry about looks). I've found the Tippys are a little more complicated to get apart and clean. The spyder has a slide pin and out comes the guts. Tippys have a bunch of screws you have to take out. Don't get me wrong Tippys are very good starting markers but I feel I had more fun with the Spyder and I think you would too. There is just more you can do to a Spyder then you can to a Tippy.

On a different note, welcome to the family. Now run!!! As fast as you can. This place will rot your mind and soon you'll be an addict like the rest of us. It will take over your life!!! Get away while you still can. Before the mods get you..............:paranoid:

if you really wanted to open your tippmann, its not hard. although field stripping is impossible, you should never need to. if you really want a pretty marker, then yea a spyder would most likely give you more of something you want. in my experiance, the tippmann is less work intensive, since you can go for as long as you want(within reason) without oiling. (yes, ive seen it done twice. two seperate tippys, 2 and a half years, never being opened. all in woods ball. they werent the cleanest or most efficent things ive seen in my time, but they worked)

alittle on the biased side but again, like anyone will tell you. "it's all about personal preference". My first choice was the tippmann (after weeks of research) and my second was the Spyder, probably the TL+. Unlike most of the youngin's, I'm not looking for just flasy looks ( you know, extra tubes and beaded finish), I look for performance and reliability. I found the Tippmann to be a better gun for the price and options...again, that's my take on it. Another thing you should ask yourself after playing for your first time is "how far and where do I plan on going with this sport (rec or tourny)?" I know I'm not going to be playing any speed ball tourny's so I got something I can take out of my trunk on weekends...the 98c...
