I've never really played speed ball, but my field will be getting a sup air ball field set up on the 14th of next month so i was watching a few movies of speedball.
i noticed that before the break every one keeps their guns pointed away from the targets, and assumes a stance. is this some kind of rule?
do you guys know of anyplace where i can read up on the official rules of speedball?

I've played speedball, reffed some small games and watched a few speed tourneys.
First the Ultimate ref says "10 seconds on my mark...mark". The teams put their guns pointed on to a wall or on a rope, never facing their opposing team. After 10 seconds are done, ref calls "GO GO GO". After that the teams have 3 minutes to hang the center flag at their opponents start area. That's basicly it, hang the center flag. You get points for: first flag pull, hanging the flag, taking out opponents. Sometimes points are rewarded for having players left on your team.
Hope that helped.

yea it did. i was mostly wondering about the start. I guess you cannot point your guns at the opposing team

From the few tournys i have been in there are many similar pieces yet alot of the people who set them up put small little changes of there own. At one i played in you had your gun on a string and was able too look down teh field at teh other team. At another you had to look away with the gun on a barrel and another you had to look away and didnt have your gun touching anything i prefer on the string able to look down i guess its all personal. As for the rules they are pretty simple you cant dissasamble your marker in play and usually the only thing allowed in play to be on the ground is you pods that you have used. And as for how the game works Center flag (Pretty easy to get points if the other team doesnt max on you) and some places have used elimanation.

Another rule. This one applies to all tourneys. If you turn off your air system (press the on/off button), you are automoatically declared out. I read about it in a tourney covered by APG. His Angel was gushing air and he had no choice to turn off his tank. So remember that.

listen speedball rules vary tourney to tourney place to place normal fields will allow u to look at your apponents during the start different times will be set up it can be centerflag, capture the flag, elimination most tourneys have the rule that u do have to turn the other way but that is tourney ball dont worry bout it

The owner of the field should tell you all of the rules if you ask. The field owner will most likely tell the rules when you go to play on the air field.

there is a difference beween speedball and tourneys, sure u play speedball in tourneys but in a rec its not as serious and competetive (of course there still is competition though hehe) the refs will have different rules. i was so mad the last time i plyed, the ref old my dad he could move the bunkers so i coulndt shoot him. i flanked there side and he just moved his bunker screwed up my whole plan.

just make sure you know the rules before you play, ecspecially if its a tournament. i've seen many guys get their armbands taken for starting with their gun pointed at the other team. try to talk alot with your teamates so you know where the opposing team is.

yeh they can be pretty small but still i cant stand just sitting and shooting. i have to be up and running.

Thats why I think tournaments should play more speed ball instead of hyper even though it goes faster but it doesn't show the teams real skill because you just sit and shoot mostaly.

Most are but you still only move 1-2 bunkers tops otherwise you have to bunker to get new bunkers.

If you get a chance to watch the LA open 2001, you'll see a huge hyper coarse. It's a ten man tourny with pro team play. Awsome video, Ground Zero whips up on the sc ironmen, Danny Love was swearing at the refs, it was amusing. I play at Team Functions home field. They have a full size hyperball coarse set up for practice, it has to be the best coarse at the field. They hold three five and ten man tournys there all the time, but the prizes aren't that great. It's cheap though and good for getting your feet wet. By the way, Function took 5th at the challenge cup in chicago this year. They whipped up on 19 walk-ons yesterday, me being one of them. We didn't tag one of them, they all didn't show up either, it was 8 of them and 19 of us. I got bunkered in the snake, it sucked. Then two of them bunkered my wife in one of the back uprights, she was the person left, but she almost got two that were working the snake, she suprized em pretty good. She was sharing the bunker with another walk on and they tagged the dude and didn't know she was even in there.
