just in case your primary runs out of co2, jams, or otherwise fudges up you wont be *** out and have to totally leave the game or act as a decoy.
or you could not have a sidearm and use the 130 bucks you spent on that and buy a gun that works

I dont own a sidearm, but it's good to have a backup. Not a gun you would take on the field with you, but say your primary gun breaks on the field, you have a secondary gun to use instead of a rental

I ditto the #2 reply, however, if you have a gun that doesn't break down, then there will be no problem.

Whenever anyone asks me this question, I always say the exact same thing:
Your need to own a sidearm is determined by the reliability of your primary weapon.
In other words, use a good gun. You won't need a sidearm then. My suggestion is get a Cocker. They're only $325 from http://www.paintballgeeks.com

Not entirely true. My marker hasnt gone down on me once, and yet I still have a backup. Truth being that no matter how good the marker, things can happen. Valves can get scratched, hosing could burst or whatever that isnt your or your guns fault, and you'd be screwed without a backup

i think sideams are great to have (i dont have one now but getting a pt extreme)if you are in a bind where of might need something small a light to run at pop so one real fast then whip out the side arm run up pop them and pick the pimary up and go along with your buisness.and if your gun dies or you run out of batteries (if it takes then like my em1 )you might need to use it till the game is over.my gun has never ran out of batteries or died but there is always that chance who knows it may win the game for u

Last week i went playing at this indoor place. It was a good game. I was being pressed on by a player so i checked the other side of the bunker and i see a player in the back Hiding, and covereing for the person near me. The guy was 10 feet away, and i coudlnt even stick my pinkie finger out without him shooting. So I grabbed my grenade that i'd had for 4 months and Used it! BWahahaa Got some on his leg, he's out. I rush the dude in the back, and put some shots on his bunker. Tink...tink..tink... POW POW POW.... IM out of balls... I hide quickly, because i know that he heard i was out of shots. He was rushing me, getting ready to yell surrender, 20ft...15ft... I pop up with my Pt Extreme and Get him in the thigh and chest.
Maybe I just feel a little better when i have the sidearm with me.... but i think its worth it. PLus when your low on balls you can always take it out and use that. Its really fun.
-Knux glad that the other player didnt know about the PTE

The only time I would ever carry a sidearm (and no, I don't have one) is going to a big/scenario game. And even then, I don't think I would. I mean, if your gun breaks in the middle of a rec ball game, no big deal. You walk off to the truck, grab your backup, and wait a few minutes for the next game to start. In scenario games, I've had to walk 1/2 a mile to get back to the staging area. However, if you were going to use your sidearm, what would you do with your main gun? Carry it around?
A backup gun is VERY useful to have though. I've never HAD to use my backups (although I use them every now and then if I'm just playing around), but my friends sure do use 'em a lot. I'd reccomend having at least one, but if you're like me, you have a paintgun buying addiction (at least it's only low-end markers though...I've not felt the need to buy another Angel...*shudder*).

Are we talking about sidearms (pistol paintballguns) or backup guns?
I think that a backup is great to have. (w/ me, its a custom spyder)
but a sidearm is stupid...dont they carry like 10 paintballs at a 1oz co2?
