(Boring Story - Skip if you want to)
Well, my field rents piranhas for $25 and Imps for $35 so when I started playing a few months ago I naturally chose to rent an Imp (much better marker for not much more $, and now I'm hooked on it. I have shot blowbacks and I just cant justify buying one as a first marker then ditching it a few months later because I am addicted to Impulses. However, I am poor...
(end Boring Story)

I want my first marker to be an Imp. I am short on cash. This is the most barebones setup I could dig up (I have intent to upgrade ASAP). Basically, I was wondering 'will this work ok for an imp?'.

Blue Imp (my only indulgence is the blue :D) - 480
Crossfire 47ci 3k psi Aluminum N2 tank (I have to to o-ring trick and turn reg down when attaching, correct?)
V-Force Shield (I love these and at $30, theyre a steal!)
VL200 Clear (Rico AK asap)
Shocker Lube
Battle Swab
Thread protector and Nipple cover (nescessary???)

on nitro tanks you dont have to do the o ring trick all the time, in fact for me i never have to, why, becaues you can fill the tank when its already sqrewed in..... sqrew in a EMPTY tank all the way in, then fill it up.....

uhhh id trade that "blue impy" in for a black one and get the rico right away.....

Check out http://www.e-paintballoutlet.com/ , look near the bottom of the first page. If you call them, they may be able to set you up even better. Also consider co2 w/anti-siphon, it may be cheaper. Either way just give them a call.

What place rents imps?! That's a big liability to put in the hands of someone who's possibly never shot a marker before.

Anyways....

As for the Imp, Don't go for a month or two (I know it'll seem like a long time, but you can spend that time here learning all about your Imp from us! yay!)

Save up your money, and get that blue imp. You WILL need that AK or any other motorized hopper (AK is on the bottom of the list btw, X-Board Revy is better IMO). Don't worry about the thread protector, as long as you keep your stuff neat and tidy and don't just throw it in the bag with everything else.

The nipple protector, well I have a good solution to not needing one of those, go with co2 A/S and an on/off. I know it sounds icky and gross and inconsistent, but the fact of the matter is, unregulated co2 is very inconsistent, I think the most unstable gas/compound around. However, you're lucky that when you buy your new blue imp, you get smartparts greatest invention, the MaxFlo. This is one of two regulators that were more or less (I'm not sainy definatly b/c I haven't researched it) built around co2 use. Skog has quoted, in all his phsyics knowledge and testing, a +-4 FPS in cold weather (I think he said 10 below freezing). He put some HPA through the same setup without adjusting and I think he said she got +-3FPS. I think that's pretty damn cool.

Don't listen to people when they say co2 is bad for your imp, because they are just jealous they spent 200 dollars on a HPA system and I still get more shots off my 50 dollar 20oz tank that will last longer (won't need hydro for 5 years, instead of a fiber tanks 3).

To wrap up, I'd say you saved about 5-10 dollars without needed a nipple cover and thread protector. Another 20-30 by getting a 20oz co2 instead of that crossfire tank. so that's 25-40 bucks you can put twoards a better hopper! Only 10 more for a x-board Revy (recomended by me).

There ya go, I think that's the most I've ever typed on something that didn't really have a direct question/confusion.

well, there are rental impulses out there, its scary, like smart parts sells them or somthing (not to the lowly cretens of course) - my local uh, somewhat of a ragtag field told me bout them, they are basicly a impulse with "rental" engraved on the side, and also have a $100 price drop :eyes: - who knew (so im told, and its what i "hear")

of course :eyes: , iv heard wrong before

thanks for the input guys...

Dravion - My field that rents Imps is Space Coast Paintball... They also rent SHOCKERS for $50!
Also I know alot about the Imp as Ive hung around here and IOG lurking in the shadows for over a month now, but theres always more to learn!
Finally, SCP fills N2 much cheaper the CO2 and it will save me in the long run to buy N2. Thanks for the long reply!

theblunu - MUUUSTTT HAVVVEEE BLUUUEEEE!!! SCPs rental imps are just preproduction imps... nothing special about them except they take really crappy care of them... I always end up replacing the ball detent or adjusting the dwell or cleaning FRICKIN SAND out of the barrel & body before i can play...

Slow_Target - yah I spend hours on end there staring at RATPULSES... mmmmm :)

Yay, even though I didn't help I got thanks. Made my day :)

You should say something every so often when you lurk. People answer more knowledgeable if they feel someone might acctually be learning, and I still learn stuff every day here. :) BTW find a place that gives you all day air for the same price HPA or co2. :P Those type of places rock!

Here is my $.02

If you really want the blue Impulse I guess you got to get it :o , but it is 50 dollars that you don't really need to spend. I would buy a College package from
htttp://www.e-paintballoutlet.com which comes with a LPR, blade trigger, and other goodies for the same price as your blue Impluse. I have a 20 ounce a/s on/off because my shop isn't getting thier HPA fill station untill next year. I can honestly say that Co2 works just fine on the Impulse, but if you need HPA then I would spend about 20 dollars more and get the Air America Melee tank from
http://www.pbgear.com , 47/3000 should run about 100 dollars. That is what I would do, but if you really want blue..................... :goody:

In the long run you will end up spending less but this is what you should do...

Get A College Pack 2 From EPBO, Comes With Vert Reg, LPR, and Blade Trigger. And then call them up for a Blue One, It wil be 50 Extra. So thats 535.00

Next For the tank... I would really advise you get a 68/4500 and get like 1,200 shots out of it instead of like 500-600 but thats only if you had the money. So instead get a C02 with Anti-Siphon for 40 With the package you should get 1000-1100 shots with it

Hopper - Get the 12v Revy, It's an Extra 50 and a well worth Extra 50, having a gravity 6.00 Dollar Hopper just plain sucks... But since you didnt buy the tank you can now get the hopper. Dont get the AK, like the same thing but some useless mod's on it.

625.00 For Every Thing

Then your helmet, squeege, and Dow 33, Dont get the shocker lube :)

Maxwell - First off, I dislike the vertical regulator setup, so I will stick with the horizontal one. Second, my field does HPA-all-day for $5 so tank size isnt an IMMEDIATE concern for me... however I will be getting a 45/4500 eventually... Finally, regarding the hopper, I am speaking of the Ricochet AK, not 2k. Same features and price as a Revvy, plus its plastic is nice and strong and it agitates after EVERY shot, not just after a jam. Also, it prevents balls from flying back UP the feed tube, so I will always have a shot when running up to a bunker/shooting out of the bunker at a 45* angle like i am prone to do...

Dow33 IS Shocker Lube ;)

Then get the College Pack 1... your choice if you like the vert reg or not.

Well, we tried to give you idea's, like the college pack 1 above. But alas, you still go with what you posted at first. it will all work on your imp, wether or not it will work WELL is another question we tried to answer. I guess you know what you want and good luck with it.

take it from someone who knows i own both a revvie with an X-board and i have a ricochet AK. The revvie is much better. I hop you have money to blow on batteries every couple times you play because with a rico you are going to be every 5,000 shots with a revvie you get 20,000. And the whole thing about "ricocheting" balls thats a load of sh*t i own one and ill tell you its doesnt work for crap. If you have an X board revvie it does agitate every shot and when its jammed. with a rico the thing agitates when the switch is hit u know if it gets jammed and nothing is hitting the switch then its not going to cycle, but with an x board rev this wont happen. And the most important is that the revvie feeds faster. Take all this from someone who knows. I still use my rico on occasion but im still not sure why

sry for u ricochet owners i bashed on them but its all true
