Does anyone think that it would be a good idea for us (the frequenters of pbreview) to collectively ask the mods to add a place for us to review online paintball stores? I frequently see great deals on paintball stuff on various websites, but often my concern about the company's reputability prevents me from capitalizing on a good price. A Store Review section would alllow us to better gauge a company's service. Anyway, give me some feedback.

I kind of remember something like this coming up before. I think it's a good idea. Maybe we could get a sticky in "general paintball talk". I'll back ya'. Actually I'll start the thread and we can see what happens.

Note: This is really DarkShark. I couldn't login, so I had to use my roommate's account.
I'm glad to see that the thread is doing well. It looks as though a sticky is in the near future. A thread, however, wasn't quite what I had in mind. My concern was that a forum thread will get hard to organize as the reviews stack up. I see that Jaster graciously offered to keep track of the ratings, but that responsibility shouldn't have to fall on his shoulders. What I originally envisioned was a review section on the main page, similar to the existing review sections for "Elecro Markers","Semi Markers", etc. That way it might be easier to find ones way around, while easing Jaster's workload. We would, of course, have to introduce some guidelines to regulate which sites make it on the review list, but this is doable, and the existing thread could provide some insight. Overall, I think that the whole thing is coming along very nicely. If this support keeps up, the mods might be willing to explore the idea.

If they could add it in the actual review section with all the other stuff (guns, tanks, etc) that would be great.

I back that 100%.

While we're on the subject, add pods too.

Darkshark, that was a great idea and seems to be going well. I've PMed Magnuss55 about the sticky.

I think the reviews in general are a bad idea.

Great concept, yet. But bad idea. Why? Well you can read half the reviews and find out why. You'll find countless kids who had something like say.... a valve stem was bad. Instead of calling up the company and getting a new one for free, they'll be here and give the marker a rating of 1. Saying it doesn't work, does nothing but leak air.
Or the ones that don't even own or have used the equipment ever, but they feel like they want to give it a review any ways by something they read about somebody elses' experience.

Then there's also the category or schmoes who just feel like bashing a company because they own it's "rival." Example, Kingman v. Tippmann (God I hate that debate!). Or because it's Brass Eagle, they bash it no matter what it is, they don't need to use it or have used it... it says BE so it's bad!

And I know it is going to be the exact same with stores, since we can just use a search and read some of them!

It's on backorder, so they get a 1 out of 10! Normally these said people that complain never even call them up and ask what the problem is. Net-stores get so much traffic, that it's innevitable for a few mistakes to happen. Which is why I've always said net-purchases are a gamble. Sometimes you're lucky, other times they jip you.
Or [enter problem here]. What ever it is, they make it sound like a crime against humanity and that they are a helpless victim.

Yes there are a number of quality real reviews. But with said people above in there, it really dampers on making an honest review. Say there's 100. 75 are reviews from honest smart people, the other 25 are from people who have no clue or just feel like bashing. Instead of the say.... 8.2 review those 75 would have had, it'll be dragged down to a 5.4. The place is really better than that, but it's impossible to tell.

Like I said, these reviews are indeed a great concept. But online, they don't really work properly. Not unless there was some people checking each and every single review that came in.... and I don't think that that is happening any time soon.

There will always be arguing, no matter what.
