having read APG for six months, I can say they aren't that selective about who they allow to write for them. Basically, you write an article, submit it, if they select it for publication, they pay you.
It's not like APG calls you and says, "We need 1,000 words on World Cup Prelims by Friday."
Blake, I got August issue today, haven't read it, but, I bet it's about like last months.

thats prettty cool. i've never read apg but that sounds like a cool deal. I could use some dough, i should try writing something. Is it just a letter to the editor deal?

The main thing I like about APG is that it's really thick! August issue is over 235 pages long. BUT..alot of the articles & features is about newbies, wood vs speedball etc. Stuff that has been covered. Plus, the people who write alot of this have little or no tourney Experience. I like PGI (Paintball Games International) cause one of the writers is a pro NPPL player. They also don't hold back on the swearing. I'm not saying that curses are good, I just like it when the article is written more like someone would actually talk. "That's one god damn nice f*cking gun, I f*cking hit a barrel of sh*t from 50 f*ckin yards away."
Jus kiddin bout that last part. Oh, and my least favourite mag is PSI (Paintball Sports International). All it is is talk about tourneys and some scores. The pictures aren't there and when they are they're very bad shots. Also, the magaizine is very small.
In the next few years I hope Paintball shows pop-up, that'd be sweet.

Well if you want perfect english then you got it.
The deadline was missed because the editor was busy and I had to fill out some paperwork. I should be in the issue within a month or two.
So is there any ideas out there?

quite frankly, I waiting for someone to start a real magazine about paintball, one that doesn't accept advertising only from paintball equipment companies, so that it isn't beholden to the paintball industry. then, maybe, we'll get good articles, good reviews and good photos. right now, IMHO, every paintball Mag I've read SUCKS the big one cause they're too busy trying to kiss every marker maker's ARSE.
But don't let that discourage anyone from reading/writing for APG or any of the other rags.

How about a real review of a product that doesn't just say how wonderful it is, that actually shows both the good and bad of the product, or if the product totally sucks, says the product totally sucks.

Alot of people (although not myself) like Scenario Games. Umm..what kinda themes are used, props, customes..play an acutal Scenario and write your ideas.
WHAT THE HELL IS IN THE AUG. APG!!?? I can't believe they're now putting in "My day at the field" stories. There's 2 of them!! Both about little 10 year old newbies! That's just wrong, why do I want to read about these little pukes' first days? I'd like to be there to deliberatly bunker them. Now that's good reading.
Back on topic (I just hate dumb newbie articles  ), Top 10 ways to....(you think of the idea). In game tips, maintenence. When I was a newbie I ate those articles up, they're good for teaching people basic stuff.
An easy thing is a product review. Buy a product that's getting alot of hype (Richochet Loader would be great). Do a review, get some pictures (a MUST). With pics, it won't have to be over 4 pages long.

and here's the rub with this one, does it actually help deflect balls ... set it up on a tripod and fire at it from different angles and different ranges and see if it actually deflects balls or if they bust all over it, which is what I suspect.
For it to be a good article, you have to go beyond the obvious and bring out the real info that players want.
I really hate it when APG does their "review of 100 masks" kinda crap, cause all they do is put up a pic of the mask and tell you how much it costs, what colors it comes in and whether it has a thermal or single lens. They never field test the masks, they never tell you how well it takes a shot, whether paint can penetrate the lens gutter, the good stuff, that's what I want to know ... damn, its late, I better put the soap box away.

You could write an explanation for why the article on the Tippmann RT trigger had testing to see how accurate the stock barrel was, instead of how fast the RT could go, and whether it broke paint or not... Just messing with you I know it's not your fault.
Well, just a thought, but... Some day, when I start my paintball empire, I'd like to start a magazine, kind of like Consumer Reports, but about paintball. Put the products through some real testing, you know? See how they stack up against each other. Test out all the things that nobody can agree on (closed/open bolt, long/short barrel, etc.). See if Smart Parts really does know the secrets of defying gravity, that sort of thing.
Why not do a test where you take a whole bunch of different styles of marker, put nitro, nice regulators, and barrels (all of the same style) on all of them, and test them for accuracy/range. Then try with different styles of barrels on the same guns, re-chronograph to the same speed, and see if there's a difference in range between barrels. Then mess with the lengths. Then, when you have the results, have two different sides of the story, one written by someone who someone who believes that closed bolt guns and longer barrels and whatnot have better range and accuracy, and one written by someone who believes otherwise. THAT would definitely be worth reading, although I doubt we'll see it any time soon.

speaking of how much paintball magazines suck..
dont every buy paintball magazine
they suck
it is mostly ads (duh)
they have stuff taken write out of warpig.com
and they seem not to review what they print out
i read this one article in there and this one guy was saying "anybody can shoot 15bps with a bushmaster or spyder if they bounce the trigger but they are just wasting there money on some guys bunker"
this is obviously is not true because bushmasters do not shoots at 15bps and spyders lol spyders have trouble poping out 4bps
