Me and my friends are going paintballing tomarrow out in the woods, and we don't have a chronograph. I was wondering if there is any real danger if our velocity if over 300 fps. For example, would it break the goggle lenses?

I know that it would hurt more, but I'm sure we can deal with that.

Please help, I need to know if we need to buy a chronograph before we go (for saftey reasons).

thanks

The only way to tell is to see how long it takes your paint to get from point A to point B. You just have to get used to seeing how fast 280 or 300 fps is.

If I were you, I'd make a 20 or 30 foot rule, considering you don't have a chrono. From 20 or 30 feet, you should be safe.

you might get spikes. but

just don't turn your velocity to the max. and I agree you could also make a 20 ft. rule (even though I hate those)

Most of the people I play with never chrono and never go to public fields. We just play in the woods. We have had no signs of real danger if over 300 fps. Just go and have fun!

Brass Eagle makes a cheap chrono graph that you put on the end of your barre Fred, it's only like $20 on ebay. I read a review on it and it is actually fairly acurate(yes Brass Eagle made a paintball thing that actually works!! :p) it's like accurate within 5 fps. It's not the highest quality but for $20 what did you espect?

We don't have any fields near buy us, so for the first three months or so that I played, we didn't chrono in. Now I have a Radarchron (handheld chronograph) so we chrono in all the time. We did stop playing with one of our guys though, because he liked to crank his velocity up in the middle of the game. Radarchrons are fairly cheap, and they are supposed to be accurate to within +-2 fps.

The 300 fps limit was established by Budd Orr. He came up with 300 fps as the limit, because he calculated (with the help of a hand specialist) the force needed to break a finger. He used a forumula that included the weight of a paintball, and the speed at which it traveled. 300 fps was the limit. You want to play at 300 fps or over, you think about that. I wouldnt do it
