View Full Version : Ordering my 1st marker from Canada

Ok, I live in the UK and I was planning to get a Spyder 2000 from http://www.paintballplanet.co.uk seeing as it was the best price I could find and wouldn't have to pay shipping from the US. It now turns out that they stopped selling these, and now sell the Shutter, which is damn expensive IMO. ( £285 for the marker on it's own, previously they were selling the 2k in a combo with mask, gas, hopper etc. for £260)

I'm not prepared to pay that much, but fortunately I'm visiting some Canadian relatives in Toronto this summer, and I'll be able to have something delivered to them for me to pick up. Here are a few questions:

• What site should I order from? I need something with good prices and is considered reliable. Will a US site charge extra to deliver to Toronto?
• Could I do better than the 2k, with a marker like the TL+? I had my eyes on the 2k as it was the only one I could find in the UK (how ironic)
• How big will the box be? I need to take it home somehow and might need to leave space in my suitcase.
• When I get it, is there anything I should do first. I don't think I'm going to use it in Canada, but if I do, I need to oil it up right?

Thanks for any help.

P.S I already have this thread in the New Paintballers forum, but I'm putting it here also.

I have found what I think to be well priced Spyder 2K's and Tl+'s ($320) at http://www.badlandspaintball.com, any people here have experience with them?

260 for a SPYDER! Is that in pounds??.. thats nearly 560 in Canadian.. Yah.. I think 320 is definitely a good deal considering what you'd have to pay in Britain. I also hear Champions paintball is really good(good service, fast delivery etc.) 329 though.. so I'd say Badlands.. they are probably the most well-known and professional in Canada.

In answere to your other question, yes it'll cost you more if you get a US company to ship to Toronto due to Canadas insane customes policy... its cheeper to buy here most of the time.

Oh yeah.. if you just get the marker, its small enough that you can put it in your carry-on luggage.. its not a very big box.

The TL Plus might be another option to consider, has a few extra items.

When you get it, you don't need to do anything. Before you are about to use it though, put some paintball gun oil on the bolt, near the o-ring.

All I can say is "don't carry your marker on the plane with you" put it in you lugage that thats going in the main hold area....if the see anything like that when they scan the sucker...you are a dead man....literally. They will take you in the back and you'll get some cavity searching going on....nasty....anyways....just a warning.....and just make sure you claim it when you go back home...that can cause problems to if you don't.

Thanks for the replies, I think that I'll see about visiting the Badlands shop when I'm in Toronto, so I can make a better decision about the TL+ or the 2K, should be easier to make a decision to see and handle the real things rather than judge a pic.

Thanks for the tips on the flight, a friend of mine did say "How are you gonna get this thing back, through the x-rays and all that?" but you managed to pre-empt me on that one :)

Will I need to mention anything at check-in, I imagine that they x-ray the other luggage for bombs and stuff. What do people on tournys do?

YES, tell them completely upfront that you have a paintball MARKER in there. DON'T say gun. It is a MARKER. Its better that they know, as opposed to them find out and wonder whats going on. Usually they assume the worst case scenario.

So yeah, just tell them what it is, and make sure there is NO CO2 in your tank. They don't allow such things on the plane. I've never transported my paintball gun... er "marker" on the plane before, but I have been on so many planes that I know the drill about such things.

However, don't completely take our advise, call the airport and find out exactly what their rules and regulations are.

Yeah, I've heard of this.

"Erm, yes that there is 'alternative paintballing equipment', not a grenade launcher"

I think I'll definately phone the airline before I buy anything.

This reminds me of when I was on a school ski trip in Utah, we stayed near a Wal-Mart and we visited it to stock up on sweets and such, when someone rushes up to us and says "You won't believe what they sell here!", guess where he took us :)

Someone actually conssidered buying one, but he was put off when the guy behind the hand-gun counter told him about the airlines, and kids with potato guns having them confiscated.

I'm 15. When I was writing that I was thinking "Hmmm, should I say 'sweets' and sound like a genuine Brit, or should I put 'candy' and sound like a wannabe"

HEHEHe.. well you are what you are.. But as a Canadian, I can say British words all the time... I would just be seen as a loyalist. Not like those traitorous yanks hehe.
