Hello yall!

Me and my 2 friends who play paintball are building are own field! Were building giant bunkers and crap and my friends house way out in the boonies where he has tons of acres of land! Its looking pretty good! all we need now is a chrono maybe and a fill station , and of course finish the field. We are making our own little thing so we dont have to pay so much at our local field, they run a paintball monopoly chargin a lot cuz there are no other fields here. Do any of you guys have ur own field or play on a private one?

P.S. oh ya if any of u just happen to have a fill station or chrono u dont want ( i hope) please let me know! (im praying)

If you are inviting strangers or the public to come over to play on your land. You'd better damn well make sure you have A) Proper zoning for that kind of thing.

If it is private and invitation only you'll likely be able to get away with just private landowner designation, but if the field starts to generate revenue and / or be used for more commercial purposes, you can guarantee the Govt. is going to want a slice of your pie and will likely either make you change the zoning, (if possible), or restrict you from using the land for that purpose. You'd be suprised how much red tape can be thrown around by all levels of government including municipal.

B) You better have some insurance. All it would take is one moron to take his mask off in the field and take a shot in the eye or something and you would be looking at one huge lawsuit. Because you are a private landowner, they basically are responsible for most of the occurances on that land. Playing for fun is just that fun, paying for one stupid accident by some moron for the rest of your natural life is stupid.

C) See a lawyer and have legit, binding and enforceable waivers made. That way if some meatball gets injured you have proof that he waived your responsibility or role in that injury and that he accepted any and all associated risks with game.

This may seem like overkill, but when playing with people you may not know that well.. It is important to CYA at all times. It is unfortunate to say but with the recent rash of lawsuits etc, going around it is by far better to be safe and well prepared.

Ax.
