I currently have a Dye Ultralite with which I am very pleased. However in the spring I am joining a team and will be playing different fields, which I assume will mean using different paints. I have looked at all the barrel systems and have settled on the Freak (as of now, the great deal I got don't hurt either). My question is, it comes with all the different inserts but what about the front? What bore size is it and why wouldn't it affect the ball at all? I can only assume that if is big enough for the largest bore than it would be too big for some paints, or if it were somewhere in between than it would be too small for others. So whats up with the front?

I believe the front is .700 (at least it is on my Scepter and it is similar to the Freak). After the paint clears the insert it's on its own and doesn't touch the barrel any more.

Yes it is a .7 bore size, they just make it that way so you can fit all paints well. Anything over .7 is just bad paint that you cant even shoot.

And the size of the front won't really affect the ball much. Basic pyhsics says that the ball will continue to accelerate while it is in the barrel. Thats why longer fronts give an advantage.

Also, because it is a progressive barrel...
