it would never be an olypic sport. it is too equipment based
What about Biathalons or Firearm shooting and Archery. Archery and Firearms shooting take a lot of concentration but very little physical effort. Paintball is much more physically excerting then archery and firearms shooting. Biathalons are physically excerting but are equipment oriented as well.

What? like archery and shooting aren't? even bicycling and speed skating are extremely dependent on equipment. Sure you have to be really good, but if you don't have the best equipment you can't even compete. At least in paintball if you don't have the best, you still have a chance. (maybe not at the olympic level though)
BTW Awesome article! Finally able to show my parents proof the paintball is better than golf in some way. :)

Unless you have a compund cam bow (like me :)) archery is very stressful. But paintball has so many cheaters that it would disgrace the olympoics, so is you see a cheater, take himthe the back woods in a game and break his legs ;)

It's hella hard to become a olympic event:(! I don't even think that MT Biking is a olympic sprort(correct me if I'm wrong).

no it isn't. There is a guy at the field I play at who uses a purple BE talon and consistantly bunkers angles and tricked out cockers. I have seen him do it time and time again. The paint he shoots cost more than his gun. There is skill involved in paintball. Good equipment only helps. :D

so does track and field, or weight-lifting... they cheat to. paintball would be an olympic sport if enough people supported the mainstream effort of tourny-style paintball. That means, real refs, more refs, multiple camera angles of the whole field (not only to watch them play but to check some players who like to cheat alot).

Does anybody know of a way to e-mail that reporter to congratulate him for being one of the first mainstream reporters to do an honest article about paintball?

thats a great clip, finally some good publicity for paintball. It was all true too, which is a first for news. :)
i think paintball would have a way better chance of making it in the x-games
that paintball.org link from msnbc seems to be durty dan's new website... He offers probably the best informative answers about paintball on the internet (they aren't a lot of any other good reliable sources of paintball information ) I think he has an Autococker.. which is a good choice for a high end semi.

ur right it would be a great x game after all it is pretty xtreme.I just can beleve they will put a show call salunoy or sumthing running and triathlons.they are sports but paintball would get better ratings even if it had itz own 30 minute show.they even got flag football tournemants for 9 year olds but wont have paintball.
ESPN had the National Spelling Bee Championships Finals on the other day. They could have so easily had paintball or anything that actually involves physical activity. I thought that was completely ridiculous.

well, espn shows paintballon there, i don't know if they still do because i don't have espn, but i would bet they still do! i still think that we should all thank that news place for posting that
espn had it but it was as boring as hell it was just a bunch of walls for courses and the anouncers were terrible they didnt know a thing about paintball for example they would say the man with the the shiny gun is running at the man with the pretty green gun

LoL so many golf injuries...but you have to take into account that more people do play golf than paintball, especially old people who can easily tear muscles or whatnot even in a mildly athletic sport.

I would like to see the number of injuries per capita. I still be that paintball would be lower than most other big sports like football or basketball, which are considered "safe" sports.

I would like to thank you for writing the only unbiased artical about paintball. Thanks for trying to understand the sport other than putting it down with out knowing anything about it. I just wanted to know the artical you have written has helped out alot in the paintball community. Thanks again. and i never knew it was safer than bowling!

i would wager that mor that 3/4's of the paintball related injuries in 1998 were some how connected with spazzy people falling down, or sliding through mud...LIKE ME
PAINTBAL IS GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Man I would love to be in the x-games......again. Two years ago, the trials came to Memphis and I passed the trial as 19 out of 25 in street inline skating and the next day (******* me) I busted my head on a rail cause I wasn't wearing a helmet and since I spent the next 4 weeks on a hospital bed, I couldn't compete. I haven't skated once since but I would love to play paintball there. Total hoss-ness.
