I just got a Tippmann 98 custom, and was reading the instruction book. It says that to disassemble it you have to screw in the velocity screw all the way. Is this necessary to take off the left receiver? I just got it chronoed yesterday and didn't really want to mess it up. Thanks!

I wouldn't see it being a problem. I never do that before disassembling my M98.
I think the reason they recommend that is because if your velocity screw is almost all the way out, when you pull apart the reciever halves, it might fall out and get lost.

I tried to disassemble it as the instructions said, but the bottom right screw on the left receiver ( the one that is on the bottom of the handle ) will NOT come out for anything. I mean I bent the wrench a little trying to get it out. I'm going the right way with it (righty tighty lefty loosie) but it's still not coming out. Any suggestions? (It's a used Tippy by the way)

OK, I already took the ASA off the gun so it is just connected by the air hose that goes into the bottom of the gun.

the bolts are seized go buy a can of penetrating oil... if that doesnt work youll have to drill it out and tap it or install a helicoil...

the reason why they suggest u screw the velocity screw in is because, if u where to screw it out, so it is flush with the body, or so, and u try to disassemble, the velocity screw will just hold the left side together...so if u screw it in, it doesnt hold the left side...hence being able to take it out...but i do that because i have an RVA...so if u dont, u dont really gots a problem...

OK, thanks everyone for the answers to my newbie questions! I tried the penetrating oil and that didn't work because now the screw is stripped so I'm going to take it to a paintball store tomorrow and have them drill out the screw and put in a new one. I'll probably get the "field stripping" thumb screws that are made for the 98 eventually. Again, thanks for the help!

NO!! those cant really be tightened so that they can stay in, the gun recoil will eventually shake them loose so u have to screw them back in every so often, not a problem, but it could get annoying

For those of you out there that have stuck screws what you might try is lightly taping it with a hammer as you try and turn it the impact itself acts on the screw to force the screw into the hole very slightly unbinding the threads as the receiver halves are constantly trying to come appart and the screw holds them together the screw is pulled solidly onto its threads.
