i know somone that says they own a "custom" thunder cat.:eyes: ok sounds beliveable....but he says he played in a tourny with it & was shooting 650fps :eek: now i truly think this is BS...now my question...
Can a thunder cat shoot 650fps??? can ANY gun shoot that fast???

Might be possible, one of my friends had a shutter once and everytime he shot someone, they would start to bleed a little bit. So we made him go get it chronoed and most of his shots were going at about 420 fps, and then about 5 of his shots were going at about 850! We thought the chrono was just broken or something but it worked fine for our guns. So yeah, i dont know anything about those guns but it very well could be possible if something was broken maybe, i dunno.

woah I don't think the paint could handle that... If a paintball were to go that fast, it would explode

yea I think it's totally BS... the paintballs won't be able to handle all that pressure.
OK, my backup marker is a t-cat and I have owned one for the past 5 1/2 years and my answer after having used this marker extensively is that the person must have brown eyes due to the fact that they are so incredibally full of it. Yes, it could push our a blob of paint very fast one or two times, but it would no longer be an intact paintball but the chrono would probably still register it. No, no tourney would ever allow that. Lastly, WHY???, that is just stupid!!! Even if he/she did get it up there he/she is going to ruin the marker.

Think about it. Its impossible, like everyone else said. If the marker runs on 850 psi or whatever, regularily the valve is open only for x amount of time to accellerate the ball down the barrel. You would have to raise the x value substantially, and get a lengthy barrel to provide a area for the paintball to accellerate. Its impossible, tell him he is a liar.
I also am inclined to beleive chronos become inaccurate the further from its target fps range. For example, something going 400 fps might register higher, and the readings would get erratic and scewed at higher velocities. This is just an idea.

dude if that was going 800fps+ it would like kill you, lol...*thinks about what it might feel like, then falls out of computer chair*
300 fps = 204 mph
just a thought

well I doubt that's possible but... if it was consider this...
a shotgun shells muzzle velocity is somewhere around 1200 fps to 1700 fps so..... If his gun was shooting around 600 think about how much damage that would cause the person hit. Thats about half the speed of a shotgun shell, which is pretty darn dangerous. Probably not enough to kill them but would cause some serious damage.... in short my opinion he's full of crap...
also, as some of the others have posted I don't think the paintball could handle that much pressure.

Actually it doesn't vary directly
600 = 409 mph
900 = 613 mph
1000 = 681 mph
1129 = 769 mph (btw: in the open air at about 70* this is mach 1, the speed of sound, a supersonic PB, i don't think so)
