I have played paintball 2x and admission + rental getting expensive, I have heard good/bad bout almost all guns. shutter is good but cant aim because of that thing on top. m98 is good(they rent this) but kinda heavy. People at another Forum said Bruizer Outlaw is a better shutter that you can see down barrel. Im looking for a guns thats prolly 200- but can jump up a bit(shutter is like 220) Can anyone help me on a good entry level marker? Thanks

my advice to you would be a pirahna, it's got many goot features, quik strip pin, all that stuff, and they cycle nice and smooth. The best pirahna buy is the STS or the PSI. I recomend the PSI beacauseit comes with a regulator that is somewhat CO2 friendly, PSI's run about 220? but the STS is only 150, and a great deal, there is the Pro but the only advantage to the pro is it's metal trigger. If you have the cash, get a splashed EXT and purchase the metal trigger frame. If you find the piranha is not for you, test out spyders and 98's. If you play soley out doors and never speedball, i do recomen the 98 custom, but it is too big for speedball. Hope i helped

If I was in your shoes i would go with a any of the spyders. spyder TL, Spyder SE, Shutter, or even a Spyder Compact. I dont know why you think the M98 is heavy, the M98 is one of the best guns ever made especially with the flatline barrel, which shoot farther that any other barrel. Dont listen to the person who said the shutter is bad, it is the best spyder there is. You cant go wrong with spyders, tippmans, or bruizers. But Before I would buy anything, I would request to shoot the guns first and see what you like the best.

DO NOT I REPEAT DO NOT GET THE SHUTTER! i have had enough of this piece of junk. The shutter is complete waste of 50 dollars. i got a shutter and it is leaked everytime i Went to PLAY PIECE OF F!!!KING S!!T! Get a TL Plus if any spyder or get a Piranha but not a spyder. If you want an ugly looking gun that is low price that means you can get a new barrel go for the M98. It can take abuse and it can shoot great with some upgrades. You dont have to worry about your model 98 cause if anything happens you can just call tippmann and they will replace it even if it was your fault. Conclusion: Dont get a spyder, get a Pirahana or a M98 these are both good guns.

I totally agree. I haven't used a PSI, but I own an STS G2. It's sweet. the best feature of all the Piranah guns is the Quick Strip pin. It only takes seconds to drop the internals, clean, maintain and reassemble. And I'm saying this as someone who is not mechanically inclined and doesn't have time to take care of a medium or high maintenance marker. I got my STS from http://www.bbtpaintball.com. It was $146 plus shipping. They also sell it as part of a package with mask, tank, squeege and some other accessories.

but you should watch out while being bunkered, i didn't aim for that dudes the quick strip pin....... honestly...man, that was hilarious... muck, the psi is just an sts w/ a pure enrgy reg, thats the ony differance

Luck shot to the Pin, eh richy ... did his internals fly across the field. Happened to a friend of mine, right after he got his Spyder SE ... Cept he was home trying to take the thing apart and he didn't read the manual, he released the screw that holds everything (and there must be a great deal of tension of the spring) and he said the whole insides shot across his room.

yeah, never did find his velocity adjuster, and i almost lost everthing my first time opening the ol' compact 2000

LOL EVERY Spyder owner has pulled that...you gotta hold the velocity adjuster with your thumb while you take the pin out...i know i've pulled that so many times :D

I would definately suggest you get the m98 because it is durable, dependable, and Tippmann has great customer service. A bunch of my friends have them and they are great. Get a new barrel if you do though. My intruder Atx stock barrel(12"slapstick)kicked the crap out of their m98 stock in accuracy and range. Their balls were flying everywhere, lol. Where was I, oh ya, get a new barrel for the m98 if you get one.

Tippman does have good customer service..but you gotta think about newbies trying to field strip that thing...you have to split it in half, do your thing, then put it all back together..with a spyder, you pull a pin, get teh bolt/striker assembly out, do your thing, put your internals back in and -=POOF=- you're done :D

if you're gonna get a mag..might as well get a cocker..

TLplus84
02-10-2001, 03:06 PM
but they both might be out of the price range..and i don't recommend a cocker as a first gun..

I ve got a Stingray II, everyone has been tellin me to get a new gun but in my opinion if you do the right things to it than there's no need. Most people will badmouth the ray cause its made of plastic but its one of the most durable plastics ever according to "Sting"...I'm not encouraging you to buy this, its your choice but besides the bolt ding I've had no problems and its priced really cheap.

TLplus84
02-10-2001, 04:14 PM
yeah the 'ray is a good gun for people interested in the game and is startin out.

M98 is harder to field strip than a Spyder, but it certainly isn't rocket science. I found that I never had to brake it down at the field. Like everyone says it is a very dependable marker. I had the flatliner on it witch adds the step of taking off shroad unless you want the banana barrel showing. Just toke it apart once a day after I got home. Got keep those markers clean.. :D

For an entry level, I definitly think you need to stay with a Spyder, Piranah or Tippman ... You want something easy to maintain, that is durable, that shoots well, and something you can build you're confidence and skills with. I think a highend marker at this point would not help on the latter part. After you feel comfortble wtih your abilities, then get a mag or cocker or NugumaFlex 3000.

any spyder. not shutter, waste of money. Like the gun go for tlplus. Same exact thing, but shutter has a useless regulator.

TLplus84
02-14-2001, 05:37 PM
yep no point in getting a Dark cocker only to mess with the Pneumatics, and then you try to retime the gun, btu that won't work cuz you don't know how to, which causes more problems...blah blah blah..that's why you go with something simple like the Phiranha or the SPyder series.

Ok if ya get a spder. like all these people said. Screw the shutter. The cool littel guage on the bottom is utterly worthless and thats where the extra fifty bucks goes. Also there are pointless holes that lead to the bolt. Not to bad of a thing, i mean who drags there marker through the dirt. Just another reason to get the TL. Save your $50 and buy an aftermarket barrel. Also if ya get one REMEMBER THIS, they dont ship oiled!

As for the 'ray. Ive got one as a loaner. The require alot of tlc to perform, and just dont feel like a quality gun. Very dependable, If you get one buy a refurb, dont overpay for a new one...

Get a spyder TLplus or SE or an M98

You can't go wrong with a Model 98 or spyder.

Spyders are popular, at least thats what I have noticed when I go play at my local field. On the other hand I have never shot a spyder, so I can't really offer my opinion on it.

The Model 98 is a solid, well built gun. Really relaible. In the 4 months that I have had it, I have never had a major problem with it. It is a very upgradeable gun, there are a lot of upgrades you can get for this gun. The only complaint is, as with most paintball guns, the stock barrel sucks, save a little more money and buy a better barrel. Oh...one more thing I forgot to mention, all you need to do to keep this gun happy is clean out the barrel and after you play a game and oil the gun now and again, very easy gun to maintain.

Thats my $0.02 worth :). Hope this helps.

Hey 98. Have you EVER used the flatline on your gun? Ever try to anodize your gun? To get a 98 tourney ready its takes quite a bit of money. Ever fieldstrip the thing. Its clamshelled. No double trigger. Its ugly. Wastes gas. Anyways for the money go with a spyder or piranha.

Cambridge: I don't plan on playing in tourneys, I am strictly a rec baller, as far as anodizing goes, I personally, don't see a need for it. As for the flatline, I think I don't play often enough to warrant a purchase of one. Field stripping the gun? You don't NEED to, Like I said in my post, its a very reliable gun, I've never had a problem with it.

i hate the model 98. i admit it is a good RENTAL gun but no more. however, it is a pain in the *** to oil.

Personally, I don't see anything wrong with the 98 as a beginner gun. And I think that's the key, beginner gun. It's easy to post, "hey get a cocker," "You really need an AutoMag RT," but when you do that, you don't take into consideraton the Beginner's needs. Something durabe, easy to maintain, inexpensive, something that's ready to go out of the box, and something that's easy and inexpensive to upgrade. Again, the best bets for a new marker for a beginner are a Spyder, Piranah or Tippman98. The thing with these guns is that you can purchase one stock, no trimmings, really cheap, or get one with a mods for a little more, but still have some money left over for a mask or paint.

Seriously! its no big deal. if you are just starting out and you dont know what you want i suggest to go to a spyder compact it a great gun easily matainable and priced right($100). tons of upgrades and easily adaptable. of all the guns i think it is the best out there for anyone just starting out. trust me go with the compact.

i personally don't care for tippmans. I would go w/ a spyder b/c it is really easy to upgrade.

and they look better ;)

A damn fool
02-16-2001, 10:10 AM
Dman stragiht, also spyders are more compact.Model 98s are huge, the gap betwen the forfrip and trigr is like 6 inches!!!. The feel of it sucks in my own opinion, so go with a spyer. Plu theyre easier to upgrade, and dont come with a ****y 8 inch stock barrel. At least u get a half way descnet one to start off with with a spyder.

I was just looking through the March issue of APG (Honest, I bought it only for the ads) and realized there are a lot of really good semi-auto markers for under $300. If I had it all to do over again, I would consider a Bruizer Outlaw.

the Millenium does look sweet. It comes upgraded, and all you need to go low pressure is a new valve and a reg. i think it's a pretty good buy, worth the money

I got too shoot a Outlaw at a rec game,2 of the guys on my team had them, one stock barrel and one not.Price for it is under 300 bucks too, like 1 buck that is lol.The mag a easy gun to maintain, jcks too, like 1 buck that is e you start using it.If a o ring take a dump it easy to fix.A cocker there nice guns nothing agaist them at all,i just don't want to mess with dialing them in all the time,And yeah i would be trying too get it too do its best and then i mess it up alot.So i went too the mag.If i want to tinker with a gun all the time ,i buy a old truck and tinker with it.
