a gun for my friend

My friend is 18 years old and wants to get into paintball he doesnt know what gun he should buy. He doesnt want to spend much onthe gun or upgrades the most he wants to spend is about $200 what should he get? I told him the spyder is best for that but he wants other peoples advice to. So what do you think?

you can get a used mag with alot of stuff on it for 200. save up a little more, like 30 bucks and you can get more stuff on that same mag.

If he wants to spend $200 TOTAL, including mask, air tank, marker, then here is what I'd suggest...

First, get a good mask. If you don't have a nice mask you aren't going to enjoy playing very much. Yea, you can get a $20 one at Wal-Mart, and I have one myself, but let me tell you, they are not comfortable AT ALL. So I'd suggest spending $40, if not $50 on the mask.

You'll probably want to start off with CO2 because nitro would be too expensive anyways, so let's say 20oz CO2 tank...$25.

Now you've got $125 left for the marker. In my personal opinion, the Tippmann 98 Custom is a really good beginners marker, it's easy to take apart and understand.

My friend has a Spyder Compact 2000, and despite the negative reviews on this site, it's actually a really nice marker.

I would suggest that you read or have your friends read some of the reviews on this website, and if there is a local shop in your area, pay them a visit and ask if you can actually see, and/or shoot some of the markers that you are interested in. The reviews can only do so much for you, it helps to actually hold the marker and see it for yourself before you buy.

for price wise you either should purchase a kit or find a used set like on ebay or something to get a reasonable total setup for 200. I would keep in mind to maybe if need be get a better gun with less options than a soso gun topped out so in case he begins to really like it he has room to upgrade even though he doesn't plan it now.

Here is a great deal. A Spyder TL Plus for 100 bucks at www.paintballgear.com and just have him buy a decent mask, hopper, and c02 tank. He should be all set from there. :D Some decent masks are JT Nvaders, JT Spectras and V-Forces.
