I do this regularily. After I got my new barrel (32* terminator) I polished the inside and then applied rain x. It may decrease the barrel/ball friction a bit (I don't know that for sure), but what it will do is allow you to shoot through barrel breaks. I have never had to use a squeegee since starting using rain x. After a barrel break, about 2-3 shots later I'm back to 80-90% accuraccy, and back to almost 100% in about 4-5 shots.

i had trouble telling when it was dry, i got a tru-flight MFQB in chrome and i polished it and used rain-x all i know is now the inside of the barrel has like a mirror finish. i couldnt believe how much it stuff i cleaned out, and how much of a difference i saw after i polished it. i havent shot it yet though.
