my friend is getting a gun 4 xmas & he is experienced not a begginer and he wants to know if he should get a spyder or a tl plus (moneywise, and pros and cons, and the overall rating of the guns and which one should he get for an experienced player.

if you know a gun under $300 thats better than these two what are they?

Out of those two I say get a shutter, but I think your friend should go a slightly different route. I think he should buy a Compact 2000 with: Lapco Bigshot, Palmer Stabilizer or AA Vigilante, 12 Volt Revolution, and a drop forward. Or he shold just save his money and buy an Autococker.

Go with the Shutter. I found a really good price for it at Paintball Discounters (http://www.paintball-discounters.com/cgi-bin/webc.exe/st_prod.html?p_prodid=77&p_catid=48&sid=5bW2dL01w7fO0a8-02100527798.7e).

Why dont you get 30 more bucks and get a cocker 2k? that gun stock out-performs any blowback semi out there.

I think MC is right.

Or if you are hell bent on getting one of those.
Get the TL!

A tl is about $60 less than a shutter and it performs just as well. The shutter has a reg that performs no fuction at all because it is before the expansion chamber and it has the stupid exposed bolt.

Well, they both come with parts you really dont need. A Shutter is just a TL+ with a one color ano job and a Kingman regulator. If he has the money to get a Shutter, he should just save a little more and get a stock mag or cocker. But, if he still wants a lower cost gun, he could buy a normal compact and put a Stabilizer on it plus a new barrel. This would make it better than a stock TL+ or Shutter.
