Hands down the Tippman. I dont like Tippmans but it is a good gun. Tippmans are very low maintence, anyone with a brain can work it, and they upgradable. As you get more into paintball you will learn to stay away from Viewloader. Viewloader is the biggest piece of junk out in the market, even the 12vt Revy's stink.

TIIIIIIPPPPPPMMMMMMAAANNNN ownz compared to VIEWLOADER!

DEFINANTLY go with the Tippmann...Like zero skillet said, Viewloader is junk...I also personally love Tippmann too lol...To me the 98 is a great beginner gun, and a great gun for a pro...Especially with a Response Trigger...I've seen people with Autocockers say "I love the 98's with Response Triggers" (They've said this to my brother, his is all hooked up)...So go with the Tippmann, you wont be disappointed...

Neither, get a Spyder

But if I had to choose one of those I'd say tippman (although i dislike them)

Tippmann. The only thing that can be used by viewloader is their revvies and they still break sometimes.

its only the new black 12v's that are crappy... they had a bad batch of plastic... just get the gem series shells and your good to go...

Tippmann....

although black dragun basic (110 dollars) is way better than both. combined.

Get the Tippmann, easily outperforms the Viewloader.

genisis are like a very low end spyder and don't compare to tippman. since it is like a spyder the parst are to complects for you and it would just screw up unless someone spent time to teach you how.

True, a bd without a revvy is not great (although I have a friend who uses on and rarely chops, but he shoot slow)....still the best for the money.

As for spyders being complicated....they are sooooo simple. Honestly, they are way easier to take apart and put together than tippmanns. If complexity is an issue, don't worry about either gun--they are both simple and low maintenance.

Still...98 custom is way better.

I own both and I would have to say Tippmann. All the way, hands down, the best begginer gun out there.

For a beginner marker I would tell you to only look at Tippmann and Spyder. Spyders are shorter, less complicated and everything comes out easier than Tippmanns. You can also do more to a Spyder and it is built more like a tourny marker. The Tippys are more of a great outdoors/ woodsball marker. But you can't go wrong either way. I had a Spyder and my friend had a M98c so I had experience with both kinds.

yeah, I am only in it for rec/woods ball. I think the giant PVC tube set ups of tourny play are kinda lame.

spyders are actually the same length of a tippy...and they're taller... i've owned both...i know... but i recently traded the spyder with some cash for an HPA tank...

and no matter how much you upgrade a spyder... it still looks just like every other spyder out there... but when you upgrade a tippy... anyone can tell...

This depends on your future in Paintball. I would stay away from the Viewloader on principle alone, but if you picked up a Spyder in the same price range (or a Bob Long Millennium--my baby), I think you'd be much better off. No matter how people try to argue it, Tippmans just arent tournament guns. If you plan on getting competitive, get a Spyder, learn how it works, and then upgrade to a more competitive marker.

I mentioned the Millennium, but beware. Millenniums (at least the one I own) don't come with any sort of documention. When you start taking it apart, you're on your own. On the contrary, it will force you to learn how a quality marker works (you'll only put a top-cocking bolt in upside once, I promise).

You have to decide your level of involvement. If you don't want to put much money or time into the hobby (that is, you want to pay up front and be done) I would advise you to go with a Tippman. If you want to be competitive, you'll need to adopt the tournament standard for entry level markers--a Spyder.

since when were tippys not able to be tourny guns..?
Tippmann Effect uses them... and has done quite well...
one of my team mates uses one... with few upgrades...and compeats just fine with the high end markers...

and spyders... tournament entry level..?

cockers and mags are more of a tourny entry level gun...spyders are just wanna-be's...

Tippmanns aren't tournament guns. I don't care how you try to trick them out or whatever--there's a reason teams use Cockers and Mags, not 98s. It's player that makes the player, not the gun, anyways, but Tippmann guns just aren't designed as well as the current tourney fads. I hate to use this as justification, but if they were, they would be used.

You misunderstand my use of "Tournament entry level." What I mean is that the Spyder designs are the cheapest, relatively-highest-quality guns that can be bought easily. They're well documented and they work. For a player who wants to move up to tournament level, a Spyder is a good precursor to that for all the reasons I listed. I would never use one in a tournament. Ever. But I would advise all new players to get one to get acquainted to the sport.

Though I still would reccomend a Tippmann, (mainly because it is reliable and can take the beating of a newb) if you want to go Spyder, I would go for the Flash LCD.

I already said that I have abosolutly NO INTREST in tourney play. the tourney set ups are just retarded. you play in a field that has giant green and pink tubes set up  . thanks, but no thanks.

Not all fields are big pink tubes but I do know that they are two different types of play that attract different people, for the most part. So what type of woodsball do you play? Do you mainly play in your friends backyards or do you go to scenario games alot? Either the M98c or virtually any one of the spyders will be fine for you. Try them both out and see waht you like better. Also, when trying them out, ask the person to show you how to field strip it and clean it. You might want to know how to fs your marker before you actually have to. But check them out and see how you like the feel of them. That's the best way to pick out a marker.
